Chapter 32: Liliana Aran IV (part 2)

No, because of the influence of her personality shifting back and forth, when she saw Julius’ face, she became flustered and failed.

Cecil secretly swallowed her tears as she watched the blond-haired man slowly approach her.

‘A stupid devil who’s no help at all! I failed again because of you!’

[To put it bluntly, if you were me, I’d hope you would keep your purity intact.]

Julius, noticing her inner turmoil, looked bewildered as he asked, “…What on earth are you doing in bed?”

“Um… A courtship dance?”

“Tsk, the devil is still inside her head.”

“Ye—It’s Cecil now! Be nice!”

Cecil lunged at her husband, her deep blue eyes wide like a lake.

Julius swiftly turned his body to evade her, then looked at her seriously before speaking.

“He was about to do something more dangerous than I expected.”

“…What, who? That Paton or Pistachio guy?”

“Yes. He’s not an ordinary human. I never thought he’d keep his mouth shut for that long even after being t0rtured by me. It was enough to bruise my pride.”

Cecil, who had been watching him from a distance as he lowered his head and sighed softly, turned her gaze toward the window.

Beyond the transparent glass, the sky still held traces of the sun’s grace.

As she watched the moon slowly begin to rise, she pointed at the sunset sky and asked in disbelief,

“Not even two hours have passed yet? And you call that long?”

“Time is essential when dealing with heretics. It’d be a disgrace if we didn’t get results within an hour.”

Julius shook his head with a bitter smile.

Cecil, sensing her husband’s twisted sense of duty, shuddered as a chill ran down her spine.

Now that she thought about it, it was astonishing.

She tilted her head unconsciously.

Julius, noticing her expression, cleared his throat and continued.

“Hmm… Anyway, if what he confessed is true, then it seems you and the Countess are indeed in danger.”

“In danger? Are you saying an angel will descend?”

“…No, more accurately, you could say it’s a crisis for you.”

Their plan was to completely corrupt the high-ranking devils into pure evil.

“…Evil.”

“Based on what you and that butler said, high-ranking devils are an entirely different class, even among the Voids. They aren’t fully tainted by evil, am I right?”

“No! Not tainted at all!”

Cecil slightly lifted her top.

As soon as her pale skin was exposed, Julius averted his gaze and continued speaking.

“So, there are quite a few high-ranking devils like you and the Countess who are indifferent to destructive activities.”

“…Are you saying they intend to fully corrupt us and drive us insane?”

Her blue eyes sparkled as she lifted her head, laughing.

A small thought crossed Julius’ mind as he looked at her.

‘Cute.’

‘What am I even thinking?’

Leaving Julius alone with his uncontrollable thoughts, Cecil, now fuming, rolled up her sleeves and began stretching.

“Why do they think so ridiculously of us that they’d go to such lengths? I really want to scold them!!!!”

“…Anyway, the major event will take place between tonight and tomorrow night. Priestess Emily is currently preparing a way to resolve the situation, so we’ll be staying here at the castle with the Count and Countess.”

“…It’s a relief if your mother is stepping in. That means we won’t have to do anything, right?”

“In a sense, yes. Things will be resolved in Priestess Emily’s name.”

“Then that’s great! Tonight is long, so let’s make a second one.”

Julius, who almost nodded at her words, which naturally led to strange implications, couldn’t hold back any longer and flicked Cecil’s forehead before pulling out a small box from his coat.

“Wow! Why did you hit me? What did I do?!”

“What kind of thing are you saying at a time like this? It’ll be easier to respond if you stay close to the Count and Countess.”

“Then… should we just sit and sip tea, the four of us?”

Cecil lowered her head, sulking, as she glared at him.

Julius, finding her adorably pitiful, flicked the box in his hand.

“Hmm, I’m not so heartless. Of course, I prepared some entertainment to pass the time.”

‘I prefer entertainment that involves using my body.’

He chose to ignore the inappropriate thoughts crossing his mind.

The blond-haired inquisitor smirked confidently and strode toward the room where the Count and Countess were waiting, without looking back.

Behind him, the sky visible through the window was already shrouded in dark, ominous clouds.

***

“Strengthen the security of the lord’s castle, and have the city guards drink the holy water here!”

The loud cries of the knight, who had received mental education from Priestess Emily all day, filled the front of Lord’s Castle.

Priestess Emily, who had turned the water flowing through the canal in the middle of the city into holy water, neatly smoothed her silver hair and took a moment to glance at the piece of divine beast horn tucked into her back pocket.

“Now, isn’t it up to the juniors to resolve this evil conspiracy?”

Alas, they had all gone to our father’s side.

The noble priestess, who had been thinking of a humorous joke, vigorously waved the horn in her hand and called out the name of the legendary beast in a sonorous voice.

“Francis!”

“—Puh-hee-hing!”

Unlike before, this time, a powerful cry echoed from afar.

A unicorn, its entire body emitting a radiant white brilliance, galloped forward with its stylish mane fluttering.

It was carrying a pretty village girl on its back.

“… I swear, I’m just feeding another orphan.”

Clicking her tongue, she looked at the divine beast, who remained dazed despite the dire situation. Gathering her wits, she raised her head to the sky.

A dark sky, devoid of moonlight or starlight.

No—Rom’s adoptive daughter smiled wryly as she gazed at Aran’s sky, filled with ominously dark clouds.

“I thought they had planned something quite interesting, but in the end, it was just a scheme hatched by a bunch of b*stards.”

Dense evil energy permeated the streets.

With it, a devilish girl with striking black veins emerged in the distance, leading a crowd and letting out a piercing cry.

The plan of the devil and the heretics had begun a day early with the arrival of Priestess Emily and Julius.

The prelude to ‘Ascension’ had now commenced on the stage of Aran.

***

“Erm, is it really okay to just sit here? If I stay here and everything unfolds as planned…”

The anxious woman, nervously darting her eyes around, was Liliana Aran.

Fiddling with something in her hand, she cast a worried look at her husband sitting beside her.

“There is nothing to worry about, Liliana. We have the greatest priestess, the strongest heretic inquisitor, and me here. Nothing will happen.”

Rotani Aran, the red-haired nobleman, gently held his wife’s hand, offering reassurance.

Meanwhile, he quietly took something from her hand and tossed it away.

“Ah, ah. If you throw that away…”

“It’s my turn, right? Julius! Give it to me quickly!”

“Tsk, don’t be so impatient.”

The brown-haired woman, Cecil Lionelta, snatched something from her husband’s hand.

What she held was a small card depicting an angel.

“Ahh! If this keeps up, I’ll be first!”

“… If you say that out loud, won’t everyone know what you’re holding?”

Julius shook his head in pity, but Cecil was fixated on the card.

‘I see. This is definitely a game, so there must be a penalty. I guess the losing side has to grant a simple wish.’

The game Julius had suggested to pass the time was a card game.

Handling the card adorned with Tapnel’s image, Cecil let out an evil chuckle.

“Hehehe, you’ll never lose at this, right?”

[… Please, if you were me, just stay safe.]

“You must win your wish so you can make it a fait accompli as soon as possible!”

Taking a deep breath, she firmly grasped the card in her hand, her stance resembling that of a knight preparing for a duel.

Slamming the card down, the heretic inquisitor’s wife, now ready for battle, shouted triumphantly.

“I can never lose this! Yes, this!”

[… This.]

“It’s a duel!”

[… Seriously, you have no idea how embarrassing this is.]

Cecil put her all into the card game, entirely unconcerned with the dangerous situation outside.

Uttering the knights’ duel cry, she plunged into the battle with all her heart.

“… I shall be the winner!”

Meanwhile, only the earnest Priestess Emily, who was diligently preparing for the high priest’s ‘miracle,’ found herself burdened on the eve of the coming storm.
