“High-ranking devil? A high-ranking devil came here?”
She tilted her head toward the priestess in a dazed voice while blinking her big eyes.
Cecil Lionelta did not understand the current situation.
She just came here to show off to her mother-in-law about the joy of winning the wish ticket, and now she was told that a high-ranking devil had appeared? What did that mean?
“That’s right! A high-ranking devil with a strange voice came here.”
“If that were the case, Julius would have been the first to notice. And there are two high-ranking devils here. You didn’t mistake Liliana, did you?”
Priestess Emily, looking at her daughter-in-law, who was simply tilting her head as if she still didn’t understand, began to urge her while pulling at her hair in frustration.
“Don’t do that, just take a good look! There are twenty-four of them, and some probably have some strange magic to stay hidden.”
“There are people who are good at hiding, but they can’t fool me.”
Cecil placed a hand on her chest with a confident expression.
With her arrogant, delinquent attitude, she began to draw out her magical energy, using her shadow to investigate the dungeon.
“…Hmm, this feeble trace here should be either Paton or Parasol, right?”
“Yes, yes. Do it right!”
“This one here should be the little girl… Is she the strange devil who uses that sword?”
“No, that b*tch died by my hands. The problem is that after killing her, a devil who wielded tremendous magic stole her body. It must be a high-ranking devil capable of disrupting my divine power.”
“Isn’t it just that mother-in-law is an old woman?”
As Cecil’s words struck a nerve, her bright smile only made Priestess Emily snap. Unable to bear it anymore, she grabbed Cecil’s arm and started shaking her.
“If you keep this up, you know it’s going to get really serious! Should I tell Julius to break up with you?”
“…Priestess Emily, are you really trying to fight me?”
The devil’s eyes darkened to pitch black as she glared at the silver-haired priestess with a menacing expression.
Despite her intimidating behavior, Priestess Emily did not give in and continued urging her investigation.
“If you do this, I’ll make sure things work out with Julius again, okay? Just focus and look carefully.”
“…Is that true?”
“Yes, yes.”
Julius’s wife, returning with a sullen expression, looked at Priestess Emily in front of her with shining eyes, sighed, and then began showing off her magic again.
A faint scent of grass.
Cecil frowned involuntarily as she traced the remnants left behind by Letia Tonant, the girl who had been here.
“…This is an ‘echo’….”
Traces of a high-ranking devil that should not be here.
Cecil’s mind grew uneasy as she felt the Echo of the Black Forest she had burned down not long ago.
‘I certainly didn’t sense anything when I was in the Lord’s Castle. But after resurrecting from a fatal wound, she deceived my eyes, revived a human, and then used this massive spell?’
In her tangled thoughts, the voice of another self—the Emperor’s Nightmare—whispered.
[…An echo? There’s no way something like this could be possible with that child’s power alone. Someone with immense power must have done this.]
‘…In all of Lyriam, no one wields demonic magic better than me.’
Cecil dismissed the idea outright as if it were nonsense.
The other Cecil spoke to her again.
[No, no, no. There is only one person who can deceive our eyes.]
‘…Who is that?’
[Did you forget that being that is similar to us?]
“…Lionelta.”
“Huh? Why are you suddenly calling an angel’s name?”
Priestess Emily tilted her head, looking at Cecil, who had suddenly muttered, “Lionelta, the Angel of Death,” instead of focusing on her magic.
“…Sister. No…has Lionelta descended?” Cecile, her lips turning white in contemplation, began to break out in a cold sweat, her body trembling.
“Hey, are you okay? Suddenly, your complexion…” Priestess Emily had a bad feeling at the devil’s strange appearance.
“Uh, where are you? Jul, Julius. Where is my husband!?”
‘I was deceived. The ascension plan was all a lie to fool my eyes!’
Cecile, barely able to keep her trembling body steady, hastily swung her hand and tore open the air.
Through the gap, she could see various parts of Aran’s lordly castle. Desperately scanning her surroundings, she searched for Julius, but he was nowhere to be found inside the castle.
“…Lionelta, did you go with that b*tch?”
The devil chewed her lower lip and spat out her words with venom. Her blue eyes gradually began to emit a cloudy aura.
“…are you really angry? That thing about breaking you up was just a joke….” The immortal priestess, unable to grasp Cecile’s mood, tried to speak to her, but no sound reached her ears.
Anger and despair consumed Cecile entirely, old emotions she hadn’t felt since returning from the dead flooding her heart.
‘What if he doesn’t come back to me?’
The despair from that time—when she had curled up in the corner of a small house, sobbing—choked her once again.
No longer able to suppress her emotions, the high-ranking devil let out a piercing scream.
“Find Julius! Right now!”
Explosive magical energy erupted from the shadows beneath her delicate feet, clad in cheap shoes.
A massive monster soon emerged from the abyss of darkness.
A grotesquely large bird, not even granted a name by its master, screeched as it prepared to depart from the dungeon.
The creature spread its vast wings, its hideous eyes scanning the surroundings in search of the blonde inquisitor.
Priestess Emily, watching the absurd scene unfold, broke out in a cold sweat.
“…What is happening? I can’t keep up with this situation.”
She gripped the horn piece of the divine beast in her hand, raising her divine power as she faced the demonic creature, which was ready to take flight.
A devil’s familiar, capable of twisting the world to its will.
Killing that thing now was nearly impossible.
If something that monstrous rose from Aran’s lordly castle, it would spread panic among the city’s citizens—people already trembling in fear over the ascension plan.
Priestess Emily spread the pure white divine power emanating from the horn, attempting to cloak the ominous black magic.
Yet, despite its entire body being wrapped in burning divine power, the familiar remained unharmed. Twisting its now snow-white form, it violently stamped its massive feet—far too large for a bird—and launched itself into the sky.
“…Find him within one minute. If you fail, I’ll cut off your head, chew it up, and eat it.”
Blinded by rage, Cecile trembled as she clenched her fists, tears welling in her eyes.
‘It’s all Lionelta’s doing…’
Negative thoughts flooded her mind.
Saint Erman’s plan, Julius’ face—it all resurfaced.
‘I tried to hide it, but… what if he finds out?’
“…I will be abandoned.”
—Kieek!
A piercing cry echoed through the sky as the pure white monster flew powerfully into the distance.
Realizing the truth too late, Cecile could only feel the blood draining from her face.
