Chapter 71: Bianca del Castana VIII (part 2)

Kurrrrhhh!

The earth’s surface, already half-crushed, began to boil from the radiant heat. The atmosphere around the area went wild due to the extreme heat.

While bound by Bianca’s magic on the ground, Aria’s face, forced to watch the completion of Sigh of White Flame, gradually twisted in despair.

“That magic—!”

How could Aria forget that magic?

Even if she fell into hell, it would remain etched in her memory.

From forty days ago to this very moment, it was the terrible magic that had haunted her nightmares—one where her Young Lord Cain didn’t exist!

“This is it. You’ve done well enough. So, just go to sleep.”

As Bianca flicked her finger downward, the sun began to fall. It was already too late to evade it. Only one option remained: to counter the strongest attack with the strongest blow of her own.

In an instant, time within Aria’s body stopped…

Two seconds before the sun touched the ground, she shook off the thoughts of death flashing through her mind and summoned the most powerful magic she could muster at that moment. Every bit of training and effort she’d undergone had been for this!

Pa-ji-iji-inggg!

The light of destruction, born from the convergence of thunderbolts and plasma encircling her, began to transform into a blade of absolute annihilation capable of cleaving everything in existence in half.

Aria’s unique magic, developed over the past forty days to counter Sigh of White Flame, revealed its true identity—

“The Blade of the Thunder God!”

In an instant, the two forces of light destined to obliterate each other collided, and a dazzling radiance engulfed the world.

Aa-aaaa-anng!

The clash of the colossal powers produced a deafening roar, while immense vacuum waves rippled outward in concentric circles, sweeping away everything in their path.

The resulting gale rendered survival itself impossible.

“Ah!”

Aria’s entire body trembled violently as she wielded the Blade of the Thunder God. Her stamina and mana had been drained far more than she expected, and Bianca’s Sigh of White Flame was even stronger than anticipated. Her body, barely holding together as if it might shatter at any moment, had finally reached its limit.

In that instant, she envisioned her death.

“…Young Lord Cain…”

She wasn’t afraid of death itself. What tormented her was the thought of the woman who had deceived her Young Lord walking away unscathed. She longed to see his gentle smile just one more time.

“It’s over, Witch of Winter. There’s no one who can save you this time, anywhere.”

But just then, a voice answered Bianca’s proclamation.

“…No. I am here.”

“…!”

With blunt words, a figure appeared right beside Aria. Without hesitation, he extended his hand toward the blazing white sun that was mere inches from her face—a reckless act that seemed nothing short of suicidal.

“…Oh, no!”

Aria let out a shrill scream, fearing he would be consumed by the white flames at any moment.

However, what she dreaded did not come to pass. The moment his hand touched the sun, it shifted its trajectory, as if compelled by an unseen command, and veered away from Aria.

Woo-woo-woong!

The sun fell far from where they stood, detonating in the bay and unleashing a tremendous explosion.

It was the result of pushing Flowing Star to its absolute limits. The technique, which could perceive and manipulate the ‘flow’ of all things, had diverted even Bianca’s Sigh of White Flame, her most powerful spell.

Of course, even the man who accomplished such a feat was not unscathed. His left arm trembled violently, emitting an acrid odor as if his flesh were cooking. Burns oozed at the tips of his fingers, and his arm barely clung to his torso.

“…Unbelievable. Young Lord… your arm…!”

Cain extended his trembling right hand toward Aria, who looked ready to burst into tears. Yet, he soon realized his left arm refused to obey his commands.

“It’s okay, Aria. Compared to your life, this is nothing.”

His tone was gentle as he reassured her. Saving her had been worth the cost of his arm.

At his kind words, Aria could no longer hold back her tears.

“Don’t cry. It’s been so long since we’ve seen each other; that expression doesn’t suit you.”

Cain lifted his right hand to wipe away her tears. Aria stared blankly at his face.

“…Then, why…?”

When she asked why he had come to where she and Bianca del Castana were fighting, Cain responded with an easy smile.

“Aria, I came to get you, of course.”

Cain lightly stroked her head with his right hand before turning to face Bianca, who stood frozen in place.

“And Bianca, I came to find you, too. After all, you snuck out for a midnight stroll without saying a word to me.”

Cain positioned himself between the two women, his stance firm and his voice resolute.

“Both of you, that’s enough. No more fighting—I won’t allow it. If you still feel it’s not enough—”

He paused, a sly smile crossing his face.

“From now on, I’ll let you do it with me instead.”
