Chapter 46: Event Mobs (part 1)

“Is it over here?”

“Ah, do you doubt my memory? You were here last year!”

I quietly followed the seniors who took the lead.

They glanced around, wary of anyone possibly chasing them, but their level of vigilance was laughably low.

‘Who are they even trying to fool?’

I casually turned my head to ensure no one was there and moved forward. These two were as careless as one could be, and too oblivious to avoid a blow to the back of the head.

I wondered if they were luring me into a trap, but their movements seemed too urgent for that. It was as if they were desperate to retrieve something before it was too late.

‘What the hell is going on?’

I had never heard of a special exam before, so I had no clue what they were after. However, my instincts told me it was something important. If someone blatantly announced, “I know something,” even a 3-year-old could tell they were hiding something.

“Here!”

“Shh! Be quiet! Someone might hear us!”

“Who else is here but us?”

After a while, we came across a cave. They gulped nervously before summoning their summons.

‘What?’

I was about to surprise them, wondering why they were summoning their creatures when no one seemed to be around, but then I heard loud footsteps echoing from inside the cave.

“Koo-!”

“Hey, we can handle this, right?”

“I don’t know! Last year, this b*stard wrecked me!”

“What!? Then why did you ask me to come!?”

“I thought we could catch it together!”

The two of them argued while keeping a wary eye on the cave entrance. Moments later, a massive front paw emerged from the darkness.

“Shoot! Shoot!”

Upon seeing the beast, they immediately ordered their summons to attack. The summoned creatures unleashed energy blasts from their mouths and hands, powerful enough to melt armor and obliterate a tank in an instant.

“Woo-!”

“…Sh!t, what is that?”

“…I don’t know either.”

A massive bear-like monster emerged, its hide and fur shrugging off the attacks as if they were nothing. Annoyed by the disturbance, it scratched its belly before glaring at the two of them.

Before they could even process what was happening, the monster’s massive claws slashed through them.

‘Crazy… they’re dead…’

Or so I thought.

I sighed in relief as white particles of light enveloped their bodies. It seemed the academy wasn’t insane enough to allow monsters to actually kill cadets during an exam.

‘So this isn’t real after all.’

The setup made sense. Instead of casting expensive spells to disable summons or teleport hundreds of cadets simultaneously, it was much more practical to create a fantasy environment. Efficiency and cost-saving were paramount, especially in a world where wars with demons drained resources.

And to confirm this wasn’t real…

“Anna.”

“—Master.”

The back of my hand glowed as Anna materialized. She looked at me, clearly ready to fight, but I shook my head and focused on the monster. It was a mid-level creature—something that required at least a 3-star summon to handle.

‘Why include something like this in an exam?’

In most games, these kinds of monsters were event creatures that dropped special rewards. I touched the back of my hand to my ear and called Theresia.

“…Anyone spying around?”

[No, Master.]

Her voice was brimming with excitement. This was, after all, her first real battle.

The monster, dripping saliva, locked its predatory eyes on me.

Its intent was clear, but I wasn’t intimidated. I had faced far more dangerous demons before.

“I’m sorry.”

I chuckled and held out my hand. From it, a pile of ashes fell, and from the ashes, Theresia emerged—a phoenix reborn.

Theresia looked at the monster with a smile. She then turned to Anna.

“I’ll handle this. Protect the Master over there, fanatic.”

“Hey, I know! You don’t have to tell me, covered in ash…”

The two began bickering.

I sighed and interrupted. “Can we not argue? It’s wasting time. Let’s work together.”

Theresia hesitated at my mention of the exam but eventually sighed and turned to Anna.

Anna, clearly unhappy about the arrangement, couldn’t disobey my orders.

Reluctantly, they advanced toward the monster.

“I’ll cut its neck.”

“No, I will.”

The monster tilted its head in confusion as the two approached. However, as a created entity, it had no choice but to face its attackers.

Moments later, the clash began as the summons charged into battle.

Get More Chapters on Patreon: From now on, FSM Level 2 will become the CN WN Bundle. The price will remain the same which is $10. Also, the price for the KR WN Bundle will also be decreased to $10 to match this bundle.

With this I have gotten rid of the level system. The reason I am doing this, is because I plan to add more chapters to the $5 Patron tiers. Currently the readers get 2 advance chapters when they become a $5 Patron, but I want to increase the chapters they get to at least 5 chapters and more. So the current updated tier system will work like this:

The Individual Tiers ($5) will give you access to 5 chapters or more.

The Bundle Tiers ($10) will give you access to all the chapters of CN or KR webnovels.

The Supreme Patron ($30) will give you access to all the webnovel chapters on Goblinslate.
