Chapter 54: Two Legs (part 1)

The Empress, upon seeing Artia, raised the corners of her lips and looked at her.

“Oh my, who is this? Are you a pure-love dinosaur?”

“… Who is a pure-love dinosaur?”

“Are you a lizard then?”

Although the two summons were never summoned at the same time before, surprisingly, their interaction seemed rather one-sided.

‘There was this kind of interaction in the game.’

It wasn’t for no reason that I demonstrated how to summon a summon in front of Artia.

A 4-star summon, the Great Witch Empress, was one of the heroes who had connections with Artia during her lifetime. She also had the unique ability to fluster Artia in various ways.

The Empress looked at Artia, who had denied her words, and began recounting moments from her life.

“Why did the slums flood because someone cried rivers over the first emperor’s death, turning Yellow Island into a sea of tears? That was you, wasn’t it?”

“Huh, nonsense! Don’t make absurd hoaxes, Empress.”

“Why not? It’s not a hoax; isn’t it more like a myth?”

Artia trembled as she watched the Empress tease her relentlessly. It seemed there were many things Artia wanted to ask Ian, but if she stayed any longer, something might happen before she could.

“… Emperor, I will go back first. Please don’t call me back.”

“No, wait—”

Before the emperor could stop her, Artia returned to her glyph on her own.

He could have summoned her again, but knowing she would disappear just as quickly, he coughed awkwardly and looked at me. Or rather, he looked at the Empress standing next to me.

“Hmmm… I didn’t expect to see you like this. Nice to meet you, godmother.”

“Godmother? Are you the current emperor? Which number?”

“I’m the 17th.”

“Hmm, perhaps 300 years or so then?”

“That’s right.”

“Time flies.”

Watching her converse with the emperor without hesitation, I started feeling a little flustered. Human summons were heroes who had accomplished great feats during their lifetimes. Naturally, their influence extended to descendants and nations.

‘I didn’t know she had ties to the emperor…’

No matter how many nations the game had featured, I never realized she was someone revered as the godmother of the emperor. Perhaps it was mentioned in the game, but I wasn’t the type to memorize lore that had no rewards or benefits.

The emperor glanced at me and started signaling with his eyes. After a moment, I understood what he meant and addressed the Empress directly.

“Empress.”

“Yes? Why?”

“First… let’s go back for now.”

“Uh? I still have more to talk about with him…”

Ignoring her complaints, I returned the Empress to the glyph.

Afterward, the emperor let out a sigh and looked at me with visible relief.

“… There are many things I want to ask you, but let’s save it for later.”

“Thank you.”

He took out a golden key from his pocket and sealed the treasury. The moment the subspace closed, reality reasserted itself.

The emperor, now back in reality, leisurely sipped tea and opened his mouth.

“You worked hard today.”

“It was nothing.”

“Is that so…then let’s stop here for now.”

After exchanging farewells, we left the VIP room.

Behind the closed door, I heard the emperor sigh.

On our way to the dormitories, Noah walked silently beside me, bumping into me repeatedly.

“Ah—”

“Are you okay?”

“Ah, yes… Sorry, I bumped into you again.”

Her clumsy smile made it clear she had something on her mind.

“What’s wrong?”

“Huh? Oh, nothing…”

“No, what’s wrong?”

I bent slightly to meet her gaze.

Noah was much smaller than the other cadets, so I had to bend a little to reach her eye level.

“Try smiling.”

“Why? Why?”

Although hesitant, Noah raised the corners of her mouth in an attempt to smile.

I reached out, grabbed her face, and began playfully kneading her cheeks.

After a moment, her tense expression softened. She grabbed her slightly reddened cheeks, teary-eyed.

“See? You’re a bit more relaxed now.”

“… Are you satisfied?”

“Yes.”

I wasn’t sure what exactly had upset her, but her troubled expression said it all.

“Tell me what’s wrong. Maybe I can help.”

Though hesitant, Noah eventually smiled naturally and shook her head.

“It’s really fine. Ah—it’s the female dormitory from here. I’ll go ahead. See you tomorrow, Ian!”

“… Yes, goodbye.”

“Thanks for waiting!”

As we arrived at the dormitory gates, Noah dashed inside without another word.

‘There must be something bothering her… but if she won’t talk, there’s nothing I can do.’

“Wow—Summoner, are you an eunuch?”

“What—?! When did you come out?”

“I’m out now. What’s the problem?”

The Empress appeared unbidden and stared at Noah’s retreating figure. Her expression softened briefly before she sighed in apparent exasperation.

“Haahh… How could this happen…”

“How could what happen?”

“Do you really not know why that kid’s acting like that?”

“How would I know that?”
