Chapter 9: Can’t Lose to Another Girl? (part 1)

On the way home, the silver-haired girl ran simulations in her head several times.

“I shouldn’t have gone in there like that,” she thought.

It was a hobby, but she didn’t want to show even the slightest gap in that hobby.

When she arrived at the game center, cheers greeted her. It was the first time she felt such unbearable resentment when her target was changed.

The girl stopped for a moment and looked up at the sky.

“I hate to admit it, but he is strong,” she muttered.

Even though he had lost ten times in a row, he kept using the same character each time he managed to win. It felt deliberate, as if he was aiming for something.

Hoshizora Tsubasa recalled the name tag of the boy who had neatly broken her winning streak.

“He’s obviously a freshman… Yes, a freshman at Hoshizora High School. His name is Kim Hyunjin… Was that it?”

It must have been a Korean name. She replayed the name of the boy who had defeated her.

“However, I definitely learned a lot. They say Koreans are good at games… So the rumors were true?”

The way he forced himself into a fight that she wouldn’t have dared to enter, or the bizarre ability to thoroughly measure distance frame by frame—it left her astonished.

“Is this the gaming talent of Koreans?” she wondered.

Would the result have been different if she had been more vigilant and responded thoroughly?

No, it wouldn’t have been. Instead, her opponent had read her moves perfectly and turned the tables.

It was undeniable—she had been defeated by a man. Still, she thought she might like to have a proper exchange with Hyunjin if the opportunity arose.

“I’d better check the student list and find out where he lives,” she mused.

Kim Hyunjin… Maybe she could uncover the secret to his exceptional gaming skills.

She also recalled something her mother, the chairman of the board, had mentioned: Kim Hyunjin had entered the school on a recommendation from the Lionheart family.

“A connection to Miss Amelia? What are they doing?”

Tsubasa’s curiosity deepened. A connection with the Lionheart family meant the boy was far from ordinary.

“I should look forward to seeing you again… Hehehe,” Tsubasa grinned, thinking about Hyunjin, the boy who had beaten her.

First, she decided to go to school tomorrow and figure things out. With that thought, she headed home.

“I’m back,” Hyunjin said as he opened the door to the Lionheart Mansion.

It was a bit late, but since Amelia had already said it was fine, he didn’t worry too much.

As he was about to enter, a maid approached him.

“Kim-kun, the lady asked me to tell you to go to the reception room when you returned.”

“Oh, is that so? Thank you for letting me know.”

“I have prepared clothes in the reception room. You can change there. Please, hand me your bag,” the maid said, taking his bag with practiced efficiency.

It was convenient not having to tidy things up himself.

“There must be a reason for summoning me this late,” Hyunjin thought.

As he walked toward the reception room, a sense of unease crept up on him.

“Something doesn’t feel right… Is this one of those moments?”

Shrugging off his apprehension, he entered the reception room.

On the sofa, a neatly folded butler’s uniform awaited him. Remembering the maid’s instructions, he began changing.

Just as he was about to finish, the door suddenly opened.

“Huh?”

Startled, he quickly pulled on his clothes.

“Kyaaah!”

It was Amelia who had entered. She hurriedly raised her hands to cover her face, but her gaze peeked through her fingers.

Hyunjin, thankful he had already put on his pants, quickly buttoned his shirt and composed himself.

“Are you here, Lady Amelia?” he said calmly, as if nothing had happened.

Amelia, still flustered, adjusted her uniform and replied, “Did you have a good time, Hyunjin?”

“Yes. Thank you for your thoughtfulness.”

“Good work!”

Two others followed Amelia into the room.

One was Head Butler Ed, and the other—

“Wait… What?”

The head maid of the Lionheart family, Rachel J. McDowell, stood there.

She had curly hair, emerald-green eyes, and an air of competence despite her seemingly playful demeanor.

Hyunjin recognized her instantly.

‘So, this is why I hadn’t seen Rachel J. McDowell in the early stages of high school…’

Rachel, a sub-heroine of To Love X Lady, was usually attached to Amelia.

“You’re staring, Hyunjin,” Amelia said, snapping him out of his thoughts.

“Oh, sorry. Um, who is the woman next to you?”

“You’re late to introduce yourself, Rachel,” Amelia said with a smile.

Rachel bowed slightly and spoke in fluent Japanese.

“My name is Rachel Jane McDowell, Kim Hyunjin. I’ve heard much about you.”

Hyunjin returned her bow and turned to Amelia.
