Chapter 54: Two Legs (part 2)

“Uh-huh, uh… really…”

I didn’t have the ability to read people’s minds, and it was almost impossible to understand the sensitive thoughts of a teenage girl.

Then, Empress pressed her forehead tightly against mine as if she had anticipated my confusion and started walking somewhere.

I stopped her immediately.

“…Where?”

“Yes? Isn’t this the academy?”

“That’s right.”

“Let’s go see the academy. Where are you going?”

“No, so… why are you not acting like a summon?”

“It’s okay! If the summoner doesn’t speak, no one will know that I’m a summon!”

Saying so, she pressed down on the cone-shaped hat she was wearing. Honestly, with her attire, she looked more like a magician with unique taste rather than a summon.

“…If we get caught, I will reverse summon you right away.”

“Don’t worry!”

Empress said confidently and started walking toward the academy. I followed her slowly.

[Third Person POV]

Ranking Number One.

It wasn’t just about winning a special exam.

The special exam was designed to test the practicality of cadets—an assessment of how well they could handle various variables and restrictions.

Thus, Ian, who took first place in the exam, proved himself to be a skilled individual, someone who could step into real-world scenarios without any issues. Fighting against demons from across the world, he had become the first choice for numerous lords struggling with a lack of talented recruits.

And now, Ian was walking through the academy with a beauty no one had ever seen before?

It was no wonder that they attracted the attention of the cadets.

“Hey, what’s going on over there?”

Empress, who had returned to the academy with Ian, looked around as though recalling memories of the academy from a long time ago.

Although no traces of her time there remained, the transformation of the academy stirred her emotions.

Concerned that the cadets around might notice she was a summon, Ian studied Empress, who seemed lost in her thoughts.

“…How do you even know about the academy?”

“How do I know? Because I am the founder of this academy.”

“…What?”

It was the first time Ian had heard this. He didn’t remember such a detail ever appearing in the game’s settings.

The founder of the academy? Considering how many years it had existed, her claim defied belief.

“…Grandmother?”

“What?! Why am I a grandmother?”

“Well, the founder of the academy would have to be at least that old…”

“I died and was reborn! When you die, your age resets!”

That seemed to matter little to her, and she coughed a few times.

“Are you not studying at all? Or does the academy simply not teach anything? How can a cadet not recognize the face of the academy’s first principal?”

“…The first principal?”

Now that she mentioned it, Ian vaguely remembered seeing a portrait of past principals on the bulletin board.

‘That’s her…?’

If there were such a thing as photo editing in this world, then it had certainly been used liberally on that portrait. The face depicted looked nothing like her.

When Ian shared his thoughts, Empress stomped her foot in frustration.

“No, you have to look closer at it!”

“…Even if I looked, I doubt I’d see it.”

“What? Come with me!”

Empress grabbed Ian and led him toward the bulletin board.

The area was bustling with cadets checking school notices. As Empress and Ian approached, heads turned their way.

Fortunately, Empress managed to reach the bulletin board without anyone realizing she was a summon. However, she froze momentarily upon seeing the portrait of herself, then pointed at it with exaggerated enthusiasm.

“Look! It’s identical to me. Are you really confused?”

“No, I don’t think even your parents would recognize you…”

“What?! Stop making jokes about my lineage!”

Realizing she was at a disadvantage, Empress quickly changed the topic, grabbing Ian’s arm.

Ian sighed, raising his hands in mock surrender. He turned to leave, thinking it was risky to linger any longer, but Empress caught his attention with her sudden seriousness.

“…Empress?”

“Ah, yes. Why?”

“Go back. If anyone finds out…”

“Ian?”

A sharp voice interrupted their conversation.

The voice, colder than absolute zero yet warm beneath the surface, belonged to a girl walking toward them.

“Stella…”

It was the one person Ian didn’t want to encounter right now.

Stella, who had appeared out of nowhere, tilted her head curiously at the scene before her.

Ian had been summoned earlier to receive a reward from the emperor, yet here he was, walking with a mysterious woman instead of Noah, who had accompanied him earlier.

Empress, noticing Stella, turned to Ian and smirked.

“Wow, I thought you were an eunuch, but you’re a total Casanova. Look at you…Two Legs~”  (G: A guy or a girl who is dating two people at the same time is called, 양다리 (yangdari) = Two Legs.)

“…What?”

“Hmm? Oh, nothing.”

“Wait—what was that about—”

“Ah, forget it! I’ll just go back. Sorry!”

With that, Empress hurriedly disappeared, leaving Ian to deal with the aftermath.

“—Ian.”

“Uh, uh.”

“What did she mean by ‘Two Legs’?”

Stella’s sharp eyes bore into him.
