Chapter 15: Let’s Choose a Class Representative (part 2)

“Oh, and everyone! A month has passed since the entrance ceremony, and I’m going to elect a new class representative! If you have an opinion, please raise your hand!”

“Ehh?”

“Teacher, I think it’s okay for Kamiyama-san to continue?”

“Right, right!”

It seemed the boys and girls in the class were trying to pass the role of class representative to Ohana.

If this continued, Ohana would become the class representative again, just like in the original story.

But it wasn’t quite like that either. The story of Ohana becoming closer to Ryunosuke came after he heard about Ohana’s circumstances and actively helped her with her work.

I wasn’t going to hand it over easily, though. It might be easier to pass the responsibility to someone else. With that in mind, I raised my hand and made a suggestion.

“Miss Himekawa! There may be someone else who wants to be the class representative, so I think it would be nice to have a vote!”

The eyes of the people around me briefly focused on me, but only for a moment.

As Akiko-sensei clapped while standing at her desk, everyone’s attention shifted to her.

“Then how about this? According to Kim-kun’s opinion, we’ll use a voting system, but we’ll also accept applications for the class representative!”

Akiko-sensei stepped down from her desk, moved a box of tangerines aside, and went to the blackboard. She picked up a piece of chalk and wrote her words on the board.

The way she tiptoed to reach the board while writing was endearing—almost doll-like.

She wrote “Vote for Class Representative” on the board before turning around and asking, “Is there anyone who would like to be nominated?”

The class stirred, but no one seemed eager to step forward.

“I will do it, Himekawa-sensei!”

“So Kiba-kun is running?”

“Of course!”

“Okay!”

Akiko-sensei tiptoed again and wrote Sojuro’s name on the board.

“Are there any other nominations?”

The class exchanged glances, but no one else volunteered. Ohana looked between Akiko-sensei and me, seemingly torn.

Suddenly, Amelia Iori Lionheart raised her hand.

“Is Iori-san is also running for representative?”

“Wow…”

“Woh!”

While the class reacted appropriately, Amelia stood up with a confident smile.

“Oh-ho-ho! Come to think of it, I’d make a fine representative! As the daughter of Lionheart, it’s a simple matter!”

For a moment, Amelia’s eyes met mine. Maybe it was my imagination, but she was already laughing, covering her mouth with her hand.

Looking at her, I thought, ‘No, you won’t.’

Still, it wouldn’t hurt to cheer her on silently.

Meanwhile, Akiko-sensei wrote Amelia’s name on the board.

“Are there any additional candidates?” she asked.

“Teacher, do you accept recommendations?”

“I recommend Miss Kamiyama!”

“Me too!”

Huh? Can they do that?

Suddenly, other students began recommending Ohana.

“Eh, ettto… That is, so…! Whoops…”

Akiko-sensei looked flustered. She seemed ready to stop the situation, but Ohana raised her hand, meeting my eyes briefly before speaking.

“I think I’m not good enough as a representative, so it’s better to leave it to someone else…”

“Is that so? But Kamiyama-san did a good job too. All right! Then Kiba-kun and Iori-san, please come forward!”

Akiko-sensei erased Ohana’s name from the board, leaving only two candidates: Sojuro Kiba and Amelia Iori Lionheart.

Sojuro, who looked like he belonged in a sumo match, and Amelia, who exuded an antique elegance, stood on either side of the podium.

Akiko-sensei quickly prepared voting materials.

“Everyone, write your candidate’s first or last name on a piece of paper! Start!”

Judging by their impressions, Amelia seemed likely to win. I scribbled Sojuro’s name on my paper, though.

When voting ended, Amelia had an overwhelming lead.

“Miss Iori, please take care of us!” Akiko-sensei announced.

“Oh-ho-ho! Don’t worry, Himekawa-sensei!” Amelia said, grinning.

Sojuro, meanwhile, muttered dramatically, “The rise of the Representative Revolution… ruined!”

Amelia mocked him with a laugh, and Sojuro immediately pointed at her.

“Ugh! Iori-san!”

Before things escalated, Akiko-sensei struck Sojuro with her harisen. (G: The harisen is a giant folded paper fan.)

“Kiba-kun! Don’t do anything weird! Go back to your seat!”

“Yes, ma’am…”

Sojuro sulked back to his desk, while Amelia returned to hers with a satisfied smile.

“I’ll end today’s homeroom here! Everyone, have a great day! Miss Iori!”

Amelia stood calmly, giving commands for dismissal. The students of Class 1-A stood and saluted together.

“You worked hard!”

Akiko-sensei waved as she exited the classroom with a bright smile.
