Since Anais is here, I’ve decided to use the Water and Grass Inn for the time being.
What should I do now? Taking on a relatively simple mission that I can handle alone to build experience as an adventurer sounds appealing.
There are two reasons why I’m leaning toward that idea.
The first is that this other world has the concept of levels, meaning I can grow by defeating monsters, which makes it worth taking some risks.
However, I’m aware of my own limits.
For a modern person like me, facing life-threatening danger is too terrifying.
That’s why I need a reliable companion who can take on dangerous combat for me, and this is the second reason.
The kind of reliable companion I have in mind comes with pretty strict conditions.
With someone I’d only meet a few times, a simple keyword would suffice to get things done, but it’s different for someone I’d keep by my side all the time.
Frequent hypnosis and delicate adjustments would be necessary.
A keyword like “Become my s1ave,” which completely strips away the other person’s free will, is too powerful—it could erase their personality or charm with just one utterance.
They’d never betray me, but it’d feel like walking around with a puppet.
To me, hypnosis is something enjoyable.
I have to approach it with a mindset of enjoyment, or it won’t work.
For these reasons, finding a woman who fits my conditions is a task that requires quite a bit of patience.
It’d be nice if she appeared before me like it was fate, but what’s the reality?
For now, I head to the plaza, where biologically female adventurers are so common you could trip over them.
I lingered there for about an hour, scrutinizing the women passing by, but most fell short of my standards.
“How many monsters will spawn this time?”
“Well, isn’t Dry Village in danger too?”
Then, by chance, I overheard a serious conversation between two men.
“Lately, the number of subjugation missions has been increasing.”
“We might have to go out and fight ourselves.”
“No way, with the Hero around, that won’t happen.”
The Hero, huh? Beleira mentioned something about that.
They send agents to worlds in need of salvation. If that’s the case, someone bearing a grand title like “Hero” is, with high probability, an agent of another god.
Depending on my starting options, I might’ve been called a Hero myself.
If the Hero really is a divine agent, then they’re the one person I should avoid most in this world.
But would they get in my way? Not necessarily.
If the Hero takes care of this world’s crises, I can focus on my own enjoyment. That’s the ideal scenario.
I stopped observing the women and headed to the Adventurer’s Guild.
Just like yesterday, it was pretty crowded.
Today, I came here as an adventurer to take on a mission myself.
The mission board was especially packed with people.
“Looking for an assistant for the Bordeaux Dungeon exploration party.”
“Need someone to carry luggage for a group of three. Payment included.”
“Anyone want to hunt goblins? Looking for one more person.”
This place seems to serve both as a spot to pick missions and to recruit people for parties.
Party leaders call out the roles they need, and adventurers who are interested step forward.
That kind of interaction was happening lively all around.
I got closer to the board and examined the various missions.
“Herb Gathering”
Rank D-
Recommendations: No level restriction, possession of exploration skills
“Bordeaux Dungeon Exploration”
Rank C-
Recommendations: Level 8 or higher, possession of combat skills, 2 or more people
“Cat Search”
Rank D
Recommendations: No level restriction, possession of search skills
There were quite a few missions, but most were pretty trivial. Is it because this is a small town?
The most popular one seemed to be goblin hunting, but I had my fill of that yesterday. I don’t want to do it again.
Dungeon exploration… I’d like to give that a shot. My level’s 9, and I have combat skills, so I should be able to join a party.
“We’re heading to the lowest floor of Bordeaux Dungeon today. Need one more fighter—anyone confident, come this way!”
Someone was recruiting for a party just then.
Everyone started buzzing about the handsome young man leading it.
“Oh, isn’t that Salic?”
“He’s planning to finish it off, huh?”
“Bordeaux Dungeon—hasn’t anyone cleared it yet?”
“It was only recently discovered. Whoever explores it fully is basically guaranteed a Silver rank promotion.”
The vibe’s good. Salic already seemed to have a few seasoned partners with him.
Should I try joining in?
“I’d like to participate.”
I raised a hand casually and approached.
“Haven’t seen you before.”
Salic’s expression wasn’t friendly. Why do I feel like he’s hostile toward me?
“I registered as an adventurer yesterday.”
“Pfft, haha!”
What the—everyone started laughing.
“Some clueless idiot wandered in…”
Salic didn’t even hide his disgust.
“You show up half-dressed, no gear, no equipment, and you registered yesterday?
There’s no room for a fool like you here. Go gather herbs or something.”
“Hey, Salic, ease up. You’ll make the newbie cry.”
“Isn’t it fine as long as I pull my weight?”
Salic grabbed me by the collar and pulled my face close to his.
“You look like a spoiled kid. Don’t underestimate this line of work. Spend a year gathering herbs first, and until then, keep your head down.”
This is ridiculous. Is he picking a fight?
At first, I figured if he rejected me, it’d be his loss, and I’d let it slide.
But this is too infuriating.
“Let go.”
Salic snorted.
“Why don’t you make me?”
“Oh, a fight!”
“Salic versus the newbie—round one!”
If he’s so eager to ruin his life, I can’t exactly say no.
I was about to snap my fingers, willing to let a few people see it, when it happened.
The Adventurer’s Guild door swung open, and everyone turned toward it as if drawn by something.
“Gasp…”
“Good lord.”
Amid all the noisy chatter, when I thought nothing could surprise me anymore, it happened.
A woman walked in at the perfect moment, silencing everyone with her stunningly beautiful face alone.
A small face with delicate features, still youthful like a girl’s, but with provocative eyes and a sharp, cat-like jawline.
Elegant platinum blonde hair tied to one side, a slender b0dy.
Yet her unusually thick thighs and well-developed hips immediately caught the eye.
The unpleasant experience from moments ago vanished from my mind. I’d found a woman who fit my conditions.
Her appearance exceeded my imagination. She was on par with Beleira, whom I’d called the epitome of feminine beauty.
I never thought I’d meet someone like that again.
“Is that… her?”
“No doubt about it.”
People whispered, pointing at the girl.
“She’s a Diamond-rank hunter.”
“Why’s the Noble Huntress in a place like Dry Village?”
“First time seeing her in person.”
I was stunned just by her face, but judging by everyone’s reactions, her identity was even more shocking.
A Diamond-rank hunter.
Someone who shouldn’t be here.
As those murmurs flew around, the girl, seemingly used to the attention, strode toward the receptionist without a care.
“W-What can I help you with?”
Facing the flustered receptionist, the girl spoke.
“I’m here on His Majesty the King’s orders. It’s an urgent mission directive.”
“An urgent mission…!”
The crowd stirred. What’s that about? Guess I’ll join in on the surprise.
Whenever the girl spoke, the guild fell silent as a graveyard.
“The selection of the next Hero candidate has begun.”
“You mean—”
“Should I explain the mission details here?”
“W-Wait a moment! Guildmaster!”
As fast as the receptionist ran off, the Guildmaster came rushing out.
“Please, come this way.”
The Guildmaster led the girl into an inner room.
Even after she left, the people couldn’t hide their excitement and kept chattering.
I have no idea what’s going on. Are we about to enter an age of pirates or something?
Salic had turned around and was eagerly talking with his crew.
“An urgent mission! This is our chance. We could aim straight for Gold rank!”
I’m clearly not even on his radar anymore.
Fine by me. Fighting him isn’t the priority right now.
Gather herbs for a year? Just started as an adventurer?
None of that matters to me. Let these guys grind away at their honest work.
What I need to do is clear.
I’m going to bring this Diamond-rank girl who stumbled into this town under my control.
While everyone was busy talking, I quietly slipped out of the guild.

I wonder what the limit of his powers are for it to work on a Goddess. And what background he actually has to have such a strong cheat.
You will be surprised. There’s a good plot in the story.
