Chapter 138: This House Needs to Be Shared

“Boss, I, Lu Sen, toast to you!”

Early the next morning, Lu Sen gathered all of us and found a restaurant to host a farewell banquet for me.

But I wasn’t leaving Shenghua, so I felt he was making too big of a deal out of it.

Seeing how serious Lu Sen looked, I chuckled and said, “Bottoms up!” Then, I downed the white liquor in my glass in one go.

D*mn, that burned!

I was never good with white liquor—I always found beer much easier to drink. But since Lu Sen insisted today, I had no choice but to go along with it.

“Cough, cough!”

The burning sensation hit me instantly, making my eyes water. Before I could recover, a wave of heat surged through my stomach.

Lu Sen burst into laughter at my reaction. “Boss, you can’t handle this at all!”

“Screw you! This is my first time drinking white liquor, and you gave me Erguotou right off the bat! How the hell am I supposed to handle that?!” I cursed.

Hao Shuai, sitting nearby, just smiled helplessly while eating his food.

Meanwhile, Diao Sinan sipped his drink happily, completely ignoring Lu Sen and me.

“This isn’t my fault. You’re the one choosing to move out,” Lu Sen said nonchalantly, as if everything was perfectly justified.

I had no comeback for that. Left with no choice, I continued drinking with Lu Sen.

Once we finished eating and drinking, we left the restaurant.

Hao Shuai turned to me. “Boss, where are you planning to move to?”

“The university has apartments, right? I’ll just rent one of those,” I replied with a smile.

“Alright, let us know where you end up. We’ll come visit when we have time,” Hao Shuai said, patting my shoulder.

Lu Sen, now a bit tipsy, frowned and muttered, “This is all that bastard Zhao Gao’s fault. He just had to break us brothers apart. Screw him!”

“Yeah! If Boss leaves, who’s going to lead us?” Diao Sinan pouted.

Hearing that, Lu Sen smacked Diao Sinan on the head. “Boss is boss—no one can replace him!”

“Alright, alright. Today is club registration day. You guys go take care of that while I go apartment hunting,” I said with a grin.

After military training, classes didn’t start right away. We had a day for club registration, which conveniently gave me time to find a place to live.

After exchanging a few more words with them, we went our separate ways.

Shenghua’s dormitories weren’t bad—they had air conditioning and heating. But with apartments available, many students preferred to live there.

“Uncle, are there any apartments still available?” I asked the security guard at the gate.

He glanced at me before saying, “Let me check for you. Hold on.” Then, he picked up the phone.

After a short wait, the guard poked his head back out. “There’s one available, but it’s pretty big. It wouldn’t be cost-effective to live there alone.”

“How much is the rent per month?”

I still had the money Qin Shousheng gave me, plus earnings from selling items on the Demon-Hunting Net, so I wasn’t strapped for cash.

The guard chuckled. “These apartments aren’t rented by the month—they’re leased yearly. That unit costs 100,000 yuan per year.”

D*mn! 100,000?!

That was outrageous!

Breaking it down, that was over 8,000 yuan per month—definitely not cheap.

I forced myself to stay calm. “Let me take a look at the place first.”

“Alright. The agent will be here soon. Just wait a moment,” the guard said before disappearing back inside.

Sure enough, not long after, a black Mercedes-Benz business car pulled up. A middle-aged man in a suit stepped out and looked at me.

“You’re the one looking to rent an apartment?” he asked.

“That’s right.” I nodded.

He smiled. “Please, get in the car. I’ll take you to see the place.”

As he drove, he continued, “Our apartments are top-tier. At 100,000 yuan per year, it’s actually a great deal. That’s only 8,300 yuan per month—totally worth it.”

Yeah, right. 8,300 yuan per month was cheap? If I didn’t have the money from Qin Shousheng, I would’ve walked away the moment I heard the price.

I didn’t argue. I just smiled. If the place was really nice, I’d take it.

Once inside, the man gestured around. “If you’re living alone, there’s plenty of space!”

I looked around. The apartment was indeed spacious, but living alone in such a large place seemed excessive.

“It’s a nice place, but it doesn’t make sense for just one person,” I said, feeling a bit conflicted.

The man chuckled. “This apartment wasn’t designed for a single occupant. It has five bedrooms, so you can invite friends to live with you.”

“You mean… shared rental?” I asked.

He nodded. “Just a suggestion. But if you want to rent it alone, that’s fine too.”

Sharing sounded like a good idea, but who would I invite? The only people I really knew here were Lu Sen and the others. But if I asked them, I’d need a solid excuse.

Just then, my phone rang.

“Hello, this is Xia Tian,” I answered.

“Xia Tian, what are you up to?”

It was Sister Lin. I hesitated for a moment. Maybe I could ask her to move in?

I smiled. “I’m looking for an apartment, but it’s too big for just me…” I trailed off, waiting to see how she’d react. If she offered to live with me, that would save me the trouble of convincing her.

“You’re renting a place? How about I move in with you?” she asked excitedly.

Perfect! Just what I wanted!

I laughed. “Sure, but it’s expensive—100,000 yuan a year. If we split it, it’ll be 50,000 each.”

“You’re renting a university apartment, right? The one with five bedrooms?” she asked. But before I could answer, she continued, “I knew it! I’ve been eyeing that place for ages! This is perfect—we can share it!”

“But even splitting it, it’s still a bit pricey,” I said, hesitating. Dropping 50,000 yuan at once wasn’t easy to stomach.

“Ugh, you’re so slow! I already posted on the university forum—we’ll find more roommates!” she said happily.

I thought for a moment, then nodded. “Alright, that works.”

Hanging up, I turned to the middle-aged man. “Did you already promise this place to someone else before?”

He paused, then smiled. “Not everyone who looks at a place ends up renting, so…”

“I see. Well, I agree to the shared rental, but I get to approve who moves in with me!”

The man visibly relaxed. “Of course. Now, please pay the rent.”

“Fine…” I replied lightly, but inside, my heart ached.

D*mn it! Just like that, 100,000 yuan was gone!
