“Sister Lin, I have an emergency. I’m leaving the medicine-buying for Xu Xin to you!” I said as I ran while calling Sister Lin on the phone.

Sister Lin was taken aback. “Didn’t you go buy it already?”

“No more—I’m hanging up. Remember to get the medicine for Xu Xin!” I said, then hung up and stuffed the phone into my pocket.

Hao Shuai’s home was right in the capital. Although the Zhao family was powerful, the Hao family wasn’t some lamb to be slaughtered at will—Zhao Gao probably wouldn’t dare to mess with Hao Shuai.

Lu Sen and Diao Sinan were both from out of town, so Zhao Gao wouldn’t worry about any backing they might have. Besides, from Lu Sen’s screams it was clear he’d suffered quite a bit.

Damn! I thought I’d completely drawn Zhao Gao’s attention to myself, but I hadn’t expected him to go after Lu Sen and the others!

The warehouse behind the school was a long way from the villa area. Shenghua was huge, and normally you’d need a car to get there, but with this lousy weather there wasn’t anywhere to hail one—so I had to run.

If I were just an ordinary person, by the time I reached the warehouse I’d have been gasping for breath. But I wasn’t ordinary—in fact, before even reaching the warehouse I hadn’t broken a sweat, though my heart was pounding a bit.

The warehouse door was tightly closed. I furrowed my brows, channeling my anger into my foot, and kicked the door open.

In the open space filled with the sound of rain, a thunderous crash echoed.

“I underestimated you—running so far and still having that much strength. You’re truly something else.” Zhao Gao said from his seat on the sofa. Though he spoke that way, his face showed no hint of surprise.

Zhao Gao was surrounded by people. None of them were students, and they all exuded a heavy gang aura.

The young man standing next to Zhao Gao gave off the impression of a sword waiting to be unsheathed—his face as fine as carved jade, eyebrows sharp as blades, eyes sparkling, and his hair styled as if cut by a knife.

Despite his modern attire, he clutched a long sword in his hand and looked at me with a wry smile.

I stepped toward Zhao Gao. The people on both sides stepped forward as well, but Zhao Gao merely waved his hand. “Let him come over!”

Holding back my anger, I glared at Zhao Gao. “Where are Hao Shuai, Lu Sen, and Diao Sinan?”

“You’re barely taking care of yourself and already worrying about others. Are you calm under pressure or just recklessly bold?” Zhao Gao laughed heartily at me.

My fists clenched involuntarily, but I had to hold back. Until I knew how Lu Sen and the others were doing, I couldn’t make a move—lest Zhao Gao use them as hostages to threaten me.

“Bring them out!” Zhao Gao commanded. Seeing I said nothing, he waved his hand and soon three people, along with Lu Sen and the others, emerged.

“Boss, you—you came! Didn’t I say you weren’t supposed to come?” Lu Sen shouted loudly upon seeing me.

Diao Sinan cried out from the side, “Boss…”

Apart from Hao Shuai, both Lu Sen and Diao Sinan were injured.

Lu Sen’s injuries were the worst—his face was bruised and swollen, and he was covered in blood. Diao Sinan fared a bit better, with only some swelling and abrasions on his face.

Lu Sen yelled at Diao Sinan, “Didn’t I tell you? I said no crying!”

“Don’t cry…” Diao Sinan tried hard to hold back his tears, but they kept streaming down.

Hao Shuai looked at me and sighed, “Boss, I’m sorry…”

I fixed my gaze on Zhao Gao and said, word by word, “Let them go!”

“I’m not ready to let them go yet. What are you going to do about it?” Zhao Gao laughed as he looked at me.

“I say…” I gritted my teeth, my voice laced with True Qi, and roared, “Let them go!”

That angry shout echoed in the warehouse for a long time; some people couldn’t stand it and covered their ears, crouching down.

Zhao Gao trembled in fear too, but before the sound wave could reach him, the young man beside him deflected it.

I seized the chance and pulled Hao Shuai, Lu Sen, and Diao Sinan over to my side.

I untied the hemp ropes from them and whispered, “Hurry up and leave!”

“Boss! With so many of them, you surely can’t beat them all. Let me help you!” Lu Sen said, even though he could barely stand.

I ignored him and looked at Zhao Gao. “This is our private matter—there’s no need to drag them in. Let them go, and I’ll let you handle me as you please.”

“Ha! Ha! Ha!” Zhao Gao recovered from his shock, laughing a few times as he said, “Fine, no problem!”

I’d guessed correctly—there was little doubt Zhao Gao would agree to my terms. After all, he wanted to deal with me, not Lu Sen and the others; with so many people by his side, he clearly didn’t think much of me alone.

In his eyes, I was probably no different from a dead man.

“Boss, I’m not leaving! Since I caused this, let me…” Lu Sen began to protest, when I slapped him hard across the face. “Get lost!”

“Boss, you…” Lu Sen mumbled, clutching his face, unable to speak.

I turned my back on them and said to Hao Shuai, “Hao Shuai, take them and leave!”

“Boss, be careful!” Hao Shuai said, and then, along with the tearful Diao Sinan, forcibly took Lu Sen away.

Sure enough, Hao Shuai understood better than Lu Sen that they’d only be a burden—one that would prevent me from unleashing my full strength.

Once Hao Shuai and the others left, I heaved a sigh of relief.

“I’m a caring guy, giving you a chance to live. If you can knock everyone here down, I’ll let you live!” Zhao Gao declared. Then he added, “But if you can’t beat them and end up dying here, don’t say I didn’t warn you!”

Sure enough, Zhao Gao was already planning to kill me. Looks like what Wang Haoming told his brother Zhao Chen didn’t help much.

“Attack!” Zhao Gao commanded with a regal air.

Everyone except the young man with the sword beside Zhao Gao charged toward me. Moreover, each of them had drawn a small cleaver from behind.

“Come at me!” I shouted, channeling the True Qi in my dantian, and charged straight at them.

At that moment, my Ren and Du meridians were fully open. These ordinary people were nothing to fear in my eyes. Since they held no grudge against me, I took it easy on them.

I knocked someone down and snatched the knife from his hand. Anyone who got too close would have their calf sliced with a single strike.

As time passed, half of them lay on the ground moaning, while I remained completely unscathed. The rest, still clutching their knives, didn’t dare take a single step forward.

Seeing this, Zhao Gao began to panic. He realized I was no ordinary person and shouted at the thugs, “Damn it, are you complaining that I didn’t pay enough? You can’t even take down a student! Attack!”

The thugs exchanged glances at Zhao Gao’s words, then roared and charged at me again.

It would have been too troublesome to slice them one by one, so I dealt with them all in one swift move.

Thinking to myself, I threw my knife to the ground and unleashed a move called “Dragon Battles the Eight Desolations.”

“Khrrraaa—” A resounding dragon’s roar filled the warehouse, and those caught in the wave of True Qi were all knocked over, leaving only a few standing dumbfounded.

“He—he’s not even human!”

“Monster!”

“Demon!”

The remaining group came to their senses and all bolted out of the warehouse, shouting. Zhao Gao could no longer sit still and said to the young man beside him, “You—you better make a move now!”

At Zhao Gao’s words, I immediately became alert.

Although the young man hadn’t acted yet, I felt an immense threat emanating from him.

But it was already too late…

Before I knew it, that young man had positioned himself behind me, his sword pressed against my neck.
