“Hello, I’m Xia Tian…” Suppressing a laugh, I shook Wei Junzhi’s hand before turning to Tang Shuyao and Qin Mengdie. “Let’s go.”
“It’s not safe on the road. Let me and my two men escort you three back!” Wei Junzhi hurriedly offered as we prepared to leave.
I smiled. “No need…”
“Narcissist, Sister Mengdie sprained her ankle. It’s hard for her to walk…” Tang Shuyao whispered while supporting Qin Mengdie.
Qin Mengdie lifted her head and insisted, “I’m fine. Let’s go… Ah!” She stubbornly took a step forward but let out a pained gasp.
I sighed and looked at her. “You’re like this and still saying you’re fine? Let me carry you.” I crouched down, gesturing for her to climb onto my back.
“Sister Mengdie, just let the narcissist carry you!” Tang Shuyao chimed in.
But Qin Mengdie was stubborn. She shook her head. “I told you, I’m fine!”
“Sorry about this,” I apologized before turning and walking toward her.
Qin Mengdie frowned at me. “What are you doing?”
Without a word, I scooped her up in a princess carry.
“Let me go!” Her voice was icy, but I ignored her.
If I hadn’t signed a contract with Qin Shousheng, I wouldn’t have cared about her safety at all.
“Wait, you three!” Wei Junzhi called out loudly.
I paused, and he quickly approached, looking at Qin Mengdie. “I still don’t know the names of you two ladies. Would you mind—”
“If there’s nothing else, we’re leaving.” I cut him off and walked away with Qin Mengdie and Tang Shuyao.
The onlookers, seeing that Brother Sun and his gang had fled, dispersed since there was nothing left to watch.
“How did you two run into that thug earlier?” I asked Tang Shuyao as I carried Qin Mengdie.
She sighed. “Sister Mengdie was in a bad mood, so we went for a walk. Then we bumped into that guy.”
“Did that Brother Sun cause Qin Mengdie’s injuries?” I frowned.
Though her injuries were just scrapes and a sprain, Qin Shousheng might not be satisfied—after all, I was paid to protect her, and merely beating up Brother Sun might not be enough.
Tang Shuyao shook her head. “Sister Mengdie fell while running. I was calling you at the time, so I couldn’t catch her…” She glanced at Qin Mengdie guiltily.
“Let’s not talk about this anymore,” Qin Mengdie said flatly.
Hearing that, both Tang Shuyao and I fell silent.
“What happened to Mengdie?” Sister Lin and the others rushed over as soon as I stepped out of the elevator.
“Sprained ankle. I’ll take her to her room. Can you buy some Yunnan Baiyao or safflower oil for her?” I headed straight for Qin Mengdie and Tang Shuyao’s room.
Sister Lin went to get the medicine while Wang Ziyan, Xu Xin, and Mei’er followed.
After laying Qin Mengdie on the bed, I said, “I’m a guy, so it’s not appropriate. Can one of you massage her foot first?”
“I’ll do it.” Wang Ziyan crouched down, took off Qin Mengdie’s shoe, and began gently rubbing her foot.
I turned to Mei’er. “Mei’er, you and Xu Xin stay with Qin Mengdie. When Sister Lin comes back, help her apply the medicine. I have something to take care of, so I’ll head out for a bit.”
I walked toward the door but was stopped by Xu Xin.
Before I could ask what she wanted, she leaned in and whispered, “When I sprained my ankle, you didn’t carry me. But you did massage my foot, so let’s call it even.”
“What do you mean?” I asked, confused.
Xu Xin smiled and pushed me out. “Go take care of your business. Be careful.”
Scratching my head, I left, unsure what she was getting at.
Once outside, I closed my eyes and channeled the True Qi inside me. Soon, I reopened them and grinned. “Found him!”
Wei Junzhi’s behavior was suspicious, and he didn’t seem like a real expert—it was unlikely he could use hidden force at his age.
So when we shook hands, I left a trace of True Qi in him to track him down later.
The signal led me to a nearby alley. To avoid attention, I climbed over the wall.
Peeking over the edge, I looked down—and nearly cursed aloud.
What the hell? Why is Wei Junzhi with that Brother Sun?
Not wanting to alert them, I stayed hidden and kept watching.
“You idiots!” Wei Junzhi snapped, glaring at Brother Sun and his lackeys.
Brother Sun, supported by his men, said bitterly, “Young Master Wei, I didn’t even want this job! You forced me into it, and now you’re blaming me?”
“You dare talk back?” Wei Junzhi kicked him. “I just told you to threaten them a little, but you ended up injuring that lady!”
Brother Sun looked like he was about to cry. “Young Master Wei, she fell on her own! It wasn’t my fault!”
One of his lackeys added, “Young Master Wei, Brother Sun and I did our best. Her injury was an accident. The real problem was that guy who showed up—he ruined everything!”
“Don’t even get me started on him!” Wei Junzhi fumed. “He was like Cheng Yaojin barging in out of nowhere!”
Brother Sun sighed. “Young Master Wei, maybe you should just drop this.”
“Hmph! There’s nothing I, Wei Junzhi, can’t accomplish if I set my mind to it!” he said through gritted teeth.
“Young Master Wei, those girls aren’t ordinary. And that tall guy was really skilled!” Brother Sun paled at the memory.
Wei Junzhi scoffed. “So what if he’s skilled? Are my two men no match for him?”
One of them—maybe A-Long or A-Hu—spoke up. “Young Master, that guy really is an expert.”
“An expert? Haven’t you heard ‘two fists are no match for four hands’? If both of you attack together, can’t you take him down?” Wei Junzhi said dismissively.
The other man hesitated. “Young Master… Even if we fought together, we might not win…”
“Are you—are you joking?!” Wei Junzhi’s face fell.
A-Long and A-Hu lowered their heads in silence.
“My prey, snatched away!” Wei Junzhi stomped in frustration before turning to Brother Sun’s group. “Get lost!”
“Young Master Wei, you promised us 30,000…” Brother Sun forced a smile.
Wei Junzhi, already furious, snapped, “You failed and still want money? Scram!”
Brother Sun wanted to argue, but after a glance at A-Long and A-Hu, he sighed. “Fine. We’ll go.”
“Get out of my sight!” Wei Junzhi waved them off irritably.
With that, Brother Sun and his men limped away.
“Young Master, it’s late. You should rest,” one of the bodyguards said.
Wei Junzhi sighed. “Let’s go.”
As A-Long and A-Hu led the way, I grinned and dropped down from the wall.
Now I understood—this whole mess was Wei Junzhi’s doing. What a lame way to pick up girls. Brother Sun really got the short end of the stick—no money and a hospital bill to boot.
“Ahem!” I coughed, tapping Wei Junzhi’s shoulder.
Annoyed, he spun around. “Who is it?”
I smirked. “I’m Cheng Yaojin!”
