A massive temple stood naturally formed in a mysterious space, where bluish energy constantly spread, and sacred energy swirled like a storm.
At the temple’s center, four towering white pillars stood, sacrificing themselves to uphold its structure.
Kneeling in prayer was a woman with smooth, voluminous blonde hair cascading down her back like a waterfall. Her beauty was so ethereal that even if divine protection had been granted to her, it would pale in comparison.
No, looking closer, one would notice the wings spread out behind her, each feather of pure white stitched with perfection.
She wasn’t merely human; she was an angel.
Tapnel, the angel of faith.
The first angel created by the Lord was now defying her father’s command. Her delicate face contorted in a frown as she muttered repeatedly during her prayer. Moments later, a voice from behind interrupted her, causing her to stop and slowly turn her head.
“Is this your belief? To defy your father’s orders?”
A black-haired angel stood there, tilting her head with a grin.
Like Tapnel, her beauty was incomparable—a perfect masterpiece. Her name was Ziffnel, the angel of mercy.
Curiosity sparkled in Ziffnel’s eyes as she observed her older sister acting out of character.
“…And yet, the first thing you say is something like that,” Tapnel replied curtly, her gaze fixed on her younger sister, who always walked around with her eyes closed.
Ziffnel merely smiled serenely and closed her eyes again. “Unfortunately, I am an angel of mercy. I vowed only to open my eyes for the one I wish to love.”
“Pretending to be asleep just to keep your mouth shut—you’re certainly good at using it, though,” Tapnel retorted bluntly.
The corner of Ziffnel’s mouth twitched at her sister’s sharp words. Yet, as an angel of mercy, she quickly regained her composure, her smile returning.
“So, tell me. Why would my sister, who has never disobeyed a command since her creation, act so rebelliously?”
“Because I cannot comprehend the will of our father, who turns a blind eye to the saint’s grievous betrayal.”
Tapnel referred to the heresy committed by Saint Erman.
Not long ago, he had collaborated with the devils to achieve the great feat of unsealing high-ranking devils. Yet, God Rom had simply ordered the angels to remain silent about it.
“He may have evaded our scrutiny, but he cannot escape the watchful eyes of our Almighty Father. It is time to punish him and reseal the unbound high-ranking devils to uphold the prestige of Heaven.”
“They call them devils, yet not all high-ranking devils wreak havoc, do they? As for the saint’s heresy, wasn’t it Raynell who discovered it? He at least demonstrated enough skill to fool even you,” Ziffnel said, covering her mouth with a chuckle.
Tapnel’s intense glare made her stance clear, though she remained silent. Golden flames surged around her, their brilliance cutting through the sacred air.
Alarmed, Ziffnel swiftly extinguished the flames, her closed eyes snapping open in shock.
“Are you seriously igniting over a little jest? You’re growing clumsier with age,” Ziffnel exclaimed.
“Spare me your nonsense,” Tapnel snapped. “Devils are creatures driven mad by the endless void. Even if they disguise themselves as humans, problems are inevitable. We must immediately deal with the saint and seal the devils again.”
“Under the Lord’s name, all are equal, whether devil or human,” Ziffnel countered. “But it seems you show far too much favor to humans.”
“Devils are mirrors reflecting humanity. If we guide humans down the righteous path, they will naturally stray from evil. That is my belief.”
“Ha. While that may be your belief, our father’s perspective is far beyond our understanding,” Ziffnel remarked.
Despite Ziffnel’s words, Tapnel’s resolve remained unbroken. She turned her attention back to her prayer, her faith unwavering.
Though they had been together for over 2,000 years, Ziffnel had never seen her older sister so steadfast in defiance.
Watching her for a moment longer, Ziffnel finally shrugged as if resigned, then left the prayer hall.
Outside, she gazed at the open garden, its scattered green energy calming the sacred space. However, a distant sound of conflict reached her ears.
“Is this truly the sacred Heaven? Why can’t we have a single day of peace?” she muttered with a sigh.
She inhaled deeply, transforming the acrid burning smell clinging to her into the faint scent of perfume. Then, walking briskly, she headed toward the commotion.
The noise led her to the Hall of Expeditions, where the ceremony for descent to Earth was held.
Even with her eyes closed, Ziffnel recognized the scene before her: a brown-haired angel and a gray-haired angel bickering beside a massive golden jar, sacred blue smoke coiling from its depths.
“Lionelta, let go! I have urgent business on Earth!” the gray-haired angel declared.
“Raynell, have you lost your mind? How could you behave like this as an angel?” Lionelta responded.
“Krail awaits me! Let’s hurry and reward that devoted believer,” Raynell insisted.
“Are you sure this is about rewarding a believer and not fulfilling your own desires?” Lionelta shot back.
One angel tried to throw himself into the golden jar, while the other struggled to block her.
Ziffnel massaged her temple in exasperation, the absurdity sapping her patience. She stepped between them.
“Raynell, Lionelta. What exactly are you doing in this sacred hall?” she asked, her tone sharp.
“…Apologies, Ziffnel,” Lionelta muttered.
Raynell, however, took the moment to attempt an escape. “Perfect timing! Sister, handle things here. I’ll just head to Earth for 100 years and return,” she said before leaping toward the jar.
Without hesitation, Ziffnel reached out, grabbed Raynell by the head, and hurled her to the ground.
“Argh! What are you doing, sister? That hurts!” Raynell cried.
“I think it’s your head that hurts, little sister,” Ziffnel replied dryly.
