It was already the weekend.
This weekendâs plan was the picnic I had promised Ohana.
A picnic, huh?
âWhen you think about it, itâs pretty bold.â
What was I thinking when I suggested something like a picnic? Ryunosuke was around too, not just me. Well, she must have had something she wanted to say.
In love comedies, isnât it these kinds of trivial events that affect likability?
Basically, on weekends, we were free to go out on our own. In fact, Amelia had even recommended it, so I simply followed through with a solid justification.
Since the only clothes I had were my school uniform and my butler uniform, I decided to buy some casual outfits before meeting up with Ohana.
After changing into a light, casual outfit, I stored my school uniform in a coin locker near the subway station and waited for her.
âSheâs a bit late.â
I wondered if something had happened.
She wasnât the type to be this late.
âMmm.â
Should I buy something while I wait?
After thinking about it for a moment, I stepped into an accessory shop next to the station.
Wouldnât it be nice to buy her a little gift?
Now that I thought about it, each of the other heroines had some kind of accessory, but Ohana always had a plain look without one. Throughout the entire story, there hadnât been a moment where Ryunosuke had given her a gift.
Maybe it was because of the classic childhood friend trope.
âHmm.â
I didnât have an outstanding sense of aesthetics or anything, but I knew I should at least put some thought into choosing the right accessory. It would be best to avoid repeating the same color scheme.
Ohanaâs hair was pink. But⌠what color would go well with pink?
I should have learned about this sooner. If I had any real knowledge about it, thereâs no way Iâd still be single.
Among the options, I saw a white headband, a ribbon, and a light blue cross-shaped hairpin.
âI canât decideâŚ.â
They say choosing a gift should be about what the other person likes, but I had no idea what Ohana would prefer.
Buying both felt a bit excessive.
Not because of the costâjust that both were head accessories.
âWell, letâs go with this first.â
Grabbing the trinkets I had picked out, I paid for them, had them wrapped up neatly, then tucked them into my pocket before returning to wait by the subway station.
[Sorry, Kim-kun! I just got to the train station! Where are you now? ďź(⧠X âŚ)ďźź]
Ohana had sent a message, complete with a playful emoticon.
I replied that I was right by the subway station exit.
Less than thirty seconds later, Ohana came rushing toward me, waving her hand.
âIâm sorry Iâm late, Kim-kun!â
She approached with a cheerful tone, her voice tinged with a bit of breathlessness.
She must have been running, worried about being lateâshe was sweating profusely.
Aside from that, what stood out was her effort. It was clear that she had put some thought into this.
She had packed quite a lot for the picnic and was wearing a pure white dressâsomething she wouldnât normally wear outside.
The basket in her hand looked like something straight out of a medieval fantasy.
It reminded me of the basket Little Red Riding Hood carried to her grandmother.
The top of the basket was tightly wrapped in cloth.
âYou couldâve taken your time. Here, Kamiyama, wipe your sweat with this. And give me that basket.â
I took a handkerchief from my pocket and handed it to her.
âOh, thank youâŚ!â
Ohana handed me the basket and wiped her face with the handkerchief.
âThanks, Kim-kun. Iâll wash it and return it to you.â
âAh, yeah. By the way, you were a little late, Kamiyama.â
âHehehe, sorry! I was finishing up some last-minute prepâŚ!â
âNo, itâs fine. I was just asking to make sure nothing happened. But honestly, I wasnât expecting you to suggest a picnic⌠Whatâs in the basket?â
I casually asked as I reached to lift the cloth covering the basket, but Ohana quickly reached out and stopped me.
âNo, Kim-kun! Thatâs for lunch⌠Letâs open it later!â
âOh, I see. So this is lunch.â
Judging from the shape of the basket, I had a pretty good idea of what she had packed.
Sandwiches, maybe?
The basket was a little heavy, thoughâshe had probably brought drinks along as well.
There was no way sandwiches alone could weigh this much.
âAlright then, letâs go, Kamiyama.â
âYes!â
With the basket in hand, I headed toward the nearby park with Ohana.
***
When we arrived at the park, a familiar sight unfolded before my eyes.
âIs something wrong, Kim-kun?â
Ohana asked curiously.
âOh, no.â
The place was too familiar⌠but I swallowed those words.
Wasnât this the spot where I had first woken up? The place where I met Amelia?
I hadnât had the time to come back here since then.
