Chapter 25: When I Opened the Door (part 2)

“Ouch…”

It was definitely my fault for going in, but my head really hurt. I had no idea how many times I had been hit with books. At one point, it felt like a fountain of blood was gushing out, but I finally managed to escape.

This time, thanks to Amelia’s request, Ed didn’t come with us. We would travel by bicycle, but the problem was Amelia’s outfit—she was wearing a long dress.

At this rate, the fabric could get caught in the bicycle wheel and tear.

“…Miss Amelia.”

“What? What is it, Hyunjin?”

Amelia glanced at me with a suspicious expression. Her voice quivered slightly—was she worried that I still remembered? Would she hit me on the head and make me forget that memory again?

She had that exact same expression as before.

‘…Um, how should I put this?’

“Your skirt seems too long. There’s a chance the hem could get caught in the bicycle wheel, so perhaps you should change into your school uniform…”

Thud!

“Ah! Forget it! Forget it all!!!”

“Whoa—!”

Before I could react, Amelia struck the back of my head.

What did I even say?!

I collapsed to the floor, screaming as if I had actually lost my memory. Watching Amelia hurry back into the building with her eyes squeezed shut, I decided to wait.

As I dusted myself off and stood up, Amelia finally emerged from the mansion. This time, she had a rather cautious expression, as if she truly didn’t remember anything.

“My lady, you’re coming out quite late.”

“Oh ho ho! What do you mean, Hyunjin?”

“I think it’s been well over an hour since we originally planned to leave…”

As I spoke, I glanced at Amelia’s outfit.

This time, she had properly changed into her school uniform. At this length, her skirt wouldn’t get caught in the wheels, even if we rode together.

“What’s with that look?”

“Nothing. Shall we depart? Get on the back.”

I climbed onto the front of the bike, and Amelia took a seat behind me, wrapping her arms around my waist.

I nearly looked back at the sudden, subtle touch—but I couldn’t let it show.

“Alright, let’s go.”

With Amelia behind me, I started pedaling.

After leaving the mansion, we passed the street corner of the estate, where cherry blossoms fluttered in the breeze. Neither Amelia nor I said a word to each other.

Ba-dump! Ba-dump!

I could hear my own heartbeat.

I tried to ignore it and focused on riding, but Amelia was the first to speak.

“…Hyunjin.”

“Yes, my lady?”

“Your head… Are you okay?”

I immediately wondered if this was her way of checking whether I had actually lost my memory. Would she hit me again while I was riding?

I decided to respond as calmly as possible.

“My head? What do you mean…?”

“You don’t seem to remember.”

“No, I don’t remember anything other than waking up this morning and getting ready to go out with you.”

“I see… That’s a relief.”

Amelia let out a small sigh, murmuring to herself that she was glad. If she had hit me in the back of the head while I was riding, it wouldn’t have just been a simple accident.

As I thought about that, Amelia suddenly asked another question.

“Hyunjin… What do you think of me?”

The unexpected question caught me completely off guard, leaving me momentarily speechless.

“…Huh?”

“Don’t make me say it twice.”

It wasn’t that I hadn’t heard her—I just didn’t know how to respond.

“What do I think of you, my lady…?”

“Yes. Come to think of it, you’ve already been working at the Lionheart Mansion for half a year.”

She was right.

If I had to describe it, my job here was relatively comfortable. There weren’t many restrictions on my personal activities, my salary was paid properly, and my lodging and schooling were all taken care of.

More than anything, being able to see my favorite character up close every day made everything worthwhile.

There were difficulties, of course, but my love for Amelia made them bearable.

So, if I had to condense my feelings into one word…

“It’s fun.”

“…What?”

“I’ve truly enjoyed spending my days with you, my lady. And I hope to continue serving you in the future.”

“…I see.”

For some reason, Amelia’s voice sounded shy.

…Was that just my imagination?

For now, I needed to focus on how I would spend the rest of the day.
