Chapter 33: Second Summon (part 1)

The lights in the warehouse were lit, illuminating various items that immediately caught my attention. The collection rivaled that of the Academy’s secret warehouse—no, it surpassed it.

It had more heirlooms than I had ever seen.

“The Eritz family is the one that protects the southern region,” The duke explained.

They were a family that guarded a quarter of the continent, so their heirlooms amounted to 1/4 of all treasures in the land as well.

All by-products from the southern region belonged to the Eritz family. Of course, heirlooms were distributed to vassals based on their importance, so other nobles had little to complain about the matter. Even if they harbored dissatisfaction, none dared to voice it, fearing both the 4-star summon and the emperor who backed it.

“From all the heirlooms here, pick the one you want,” I was told. But I could only choose one.

Hearing those words, I scanned the warehouse. There were plenty of heirlooms that seemed useful at first glance. However, I didn’t choose immediately. Instead, I quietly accessed the system and took out a random summon ticket I had received as a reward for 30 consecutive days of attendance.

‘This is the last attendance reward,’ I thought.

After coming to this world, the attendance system stopped working after this final reward. It was only natural. If the system had kept up the daily attendance, I would have become overpowered even without me doing anything.

This summon ticket was probably the last help I would receive from the broken system.

‘Come on out.’

I tore the summon ticket in my inventory, and it began to sparkle. A colorful effect—visible only to my eyes—filled my field of vision.

Whoosh!

Flames flashed as a single piece of armor was revealed through them. A visage appeared out of nowhere, flying with the armor. Quietly—almost seamlessly—the visage attached itself to the armor, completing a single ceremonial outfit.

It was the Armor of the Order of the Phoenix Knights.

After examining the craft, I looked around the warehouse, searching for the owner of the artifact. Indeed, like the secret warehouse of the Duke of Eritz, which housed the heirlooms of the southern region, there was also an heirloom linked to a 4-star summon.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be mine.

I stopped in front of another heirloom.

“Are you going with that one?” The duke asked.

“Yes.”

No one knew exactly which summon an heirloom would call forth. High-ranking summons rarely died, and when they did, their remains, along with all sorts of summon and monster by-products, would be scattered across battlefields.

But the system revealed the identity of this heirloom’s owner to me.

[Phoenix Knight Commander]

The heirloom belonged to a 3-star summon.

I reached out and touched the heirloom.

* * *

[Quest complete!]

[Gain approval from Stella Eritz!]

[You have acquired the Heirloom (Phoenix Knight Commander).]

“…It doesn’t really help,” I muttered as I left the warehouse. The quest had been completed instantly, but now, I found it irritating how the system pretended to be helpful, smugly announcing the results.

Couldn’t the system just secretly reward me without all this pretense? If it had, maybe I wouldn’t have to sweet-talk Stella and walked away with two heirlooms…

‘Thinking about it makes me mad.’

The system didn’t really help, the shop only encouraged purchases without offering ways to actually make them, and the growth system was basic at best. No, the shop was the most absurd. Did I pour all my money from the real world into it? Over a million won, just for some leftover goods? Where was it all even going?

“You can use this room,” a maid said, interrupting my thoughts.

“Oh, yes,” I replied.

The maid bowed, opened the door, and I stepped inside.

My jaw dropped.

“Wow… No, what is this…?” I exclaimed.

The room was massive. It was three times the size of my academy dormitory, and only slightly smaller than the luxury apartments celebrities flaunt on TV. The furnishings were clearly handcrafted by artisans—luxury radiated from every corner.

The bed, laced with intricate designs, was a bit too masculine for my taste, but it wasn’t enough to complain about. Considering there were over a dozen rooms like this in the mansion, it was clear just how prestigious the Eritz family was.

As I marveled at the space, the maid spoke again.

“If you need anything, please ring this bell,” she said, pointing to a golden bell hanging by the door.

The bell was enchanted, and when rung, it would alert the maids stationed throughout the mansion. The nearest one would come running to attend to me.

‘Maid service on call?’

With that thought in mind, I glanced back into the room. I had the urge to throw myself onto the bed, but as a nobleman, I held back. After a moment, I gave in to temptation, took a running start, and leapt onto the bed.

Whoomp!

Despite my 70-kilogram weight, the bed absorbed the impact effortlessly, not making a sound. Its resilience was impressive.

‘Wow, even the bed is enchanted…’

The indescribable softness and comfort enveloped me. Without the use of any magic, it felt like the bed was designed to cradle me perfectly. I closed my eyes, letting the sensation wash over me, before carefully opening them again and raising the back of my hand.

Yes, things are not looking good. As you know, translation requires a lot of time and energy. I translate, edit and proofread the chapters on my own. I will be honest here, I started translating as a hobby, then it evolved to a hope of earning a living by doing something I enjoy.

However, I suffered a chain of misfortunes during and after the pandemic, and earnings from FSM and RTV helped me a lot. It became a significant part of my life. As long as my monthly income bordered around $200, I could make the time to translate in the middle of other works. Then RTV ended, and the earning decreased. Now, it has decreased to around $90-$100. And with PETTV nearing completion, that would decrease even more. A*dsence gets me about $ 0.50 per day, and you can’t get the payment until it reaches $100, so I can’t depend on that either.

It wouldn’t be an issue in normal circumstances, but it matters a lot to me since I am still dealing with a lot of financial troubles. I am currently looking for a job, and will have to invest my time and energy in it once I get it.

Long story short, if you enjoy reading this novel, support the translation if you can, either by becoming a Patron in Patreon, or sponsoring chapters at BuymeaCoffee. You can also take some time to watch a*ds to increase the revenue on A*dsence. Grains of sand together can form a desert.

FSM supporters has been supporting me from the start no matter what, so I would continue to translate FSM as long as I am alive. But for the other projects, I now desperately need your support so that I can spend the time and energy to serve them to you all. That’s all. Thank you.

  1. This sign in system rewards and heirloom from this world, cross is odd to say the least. Good that MC isn’t getting too OP to quickly but odd still.

    Thanks for chapter
