Chapter 34: Nonsense II (part 2)

In the first place, it might be impossible for Old Carol, who ended his green youth without ever holding a woman’s hand, to understand the delicate mind of a woman.

“…?”

And Cain, who had been watching such a scene, tilted his head as if he couldn’t understand why. In the first place, it was close to impossible for him to understand the situation as he did not know anything about it.

As Cain stared at the two in bewilderment, Aria quickly used her magic. After covering her whole body with magic thinner than a sheet of paper, she temporarily reversed the flow of air between him and herself. As a result, it was safe to assume that there was no concern that her personal scent would be leaked to him. Then, she refracted the light around her hair to make her frizzy hair look a little shiny. The light refracted by Aria’s magic would deliver a distorted image to Cain’s optic nerve.

It took her only 4.7 seconds to achieve such a result. It was an artistic movement that could be called the culmination of mana manipulation that few mages dared to imitate.

And to old Carol, it was a scene that made him sigh, which could only be seen as a waste of talent and mana. He had never taught her anything like that, and he couldn’t even fathom what the hell she was thinking.

‘…was I worrying for nothing?’

With a meaningful face on his face, he thought of himself as pitiful for throwing a warning at the little heir. He felt like an idiot for thinking that a child like that would be a threat to the world. The possibility of putting the little heir himself in danger was there but old Carol didn’t want to pay attention to that. It was because he thought that it was something the little heir himself had to do on his own.

“Old Carol, what’s wrong with your expression?”

“…it’s nothing. Young Lord.”

Of course, Cain, who had no talent for manipulating mana, couldn’t recognize what had just happened in front of his eyes, so he still had a dumbfounded face. Well, even if he were aware of it, nothing would change.

Only then, when old Carol was sighing inwardly, did Cain remember that he had something to say to Aria.

“Come to think of it, I forgot to congratulate you. The thing that happened just before, I saw everything too. I don’t know, but you must have achieved something?”

Saying that, Cain spoke to Aria in a soft tone.

“You did a great job, Aria.”

“…ah.”

The moment she heard Cain’s praise, Aria’s face brightened. She was happy. She was happier that he had said to her, ‘You did a good job,’ rather than having achieved her accomplishments or jumping over the wall that was blocking her.

She felt proud.

It was satisfactory.

And a happy feeling filled Aria’s heart.

“Young Lord…”

Aria unwittingly took a step towards Cain. She felt that he had acknowledged her.

Of course, she knew that she still lacked a lot. However, there was nothing she could do about her heart beating wildly without her knowledge. Aria’s face turned bright red in a different way than before.

Maybe she didn’t even know she was qualified. She might not have been a burden he always had to protect, but a confident person who deserved to stand in the same position and look at the same place as him.

And at the end of the day, it’s not something a lowly girl like herself should be reluctant to do, but maybe.

Just maybe…

“Aria? Are you okay?”

“…yes! Yes!”

At Cain’s worried tone, Aria let out a shrill voice without even realizing it. For an instant, she mistakenly thought that her outrageous imagination had been caught by him.

“Aren’t you sick? You have a lot of heat on your face?”

Saying that, Cain placed his hand on Aria’s forehead without hesitation.

That touch was as straightforward as treating a younger sister rather than a woman.

And, Cain’s behavior instantly lowered Aria’s mood.

He didn’t seem to see Aria as a woman. He was making himself too comfortable. It wasn’t all bad, but Aria was frustrated that he wasn’t even aware of her as a woman.

“Not at all, it doesn’t hurt. So please keep your hands off me.”

“Uh? That, is it?”

Aria spoke in a cold tone without even realizing it. Aria’s attitude caused Cain to take his hand off her forehead without realizing it. He didn’t know what happened, but he noticed that things were going strangely.

“…..”

She didn’t like it. She didn’t like it. She really hated it.

If it were the princess of the capital or the priest with big breasts, Cain would never have adhered to this attitude. At least, there wouldn’t have been any unreserved skinship like the one he did with Aria now. Let alone skinship, he wouldn’t have been able to recklessly approach them, recognizing them as members of the opposite gender.

That fact was getting on Aria’s nerves even more. It wasn’t like this. She hated the thought of being treated as a child by that person forever.

So, she had no choice. Special measures were needed here. It was a little heartbreaking to have to say this to him, but it was also a necessary step considering the more distant future.

“Young Lord.”

Aria smiled and spoke clearly to Cain.

“From now on, I hope you don’t carelessly touch the lady’s body. Because I am all grown up now.”

Aria’s cold, chilled remarks caused Cain to shrink involuntarily. Certainly, Aria’s words made sense, so Cain readily admitted his mistake.

“…I’m sorry, Aria.”

Apologizing to Aria, Cain couldn’t hide his depression. While thinking that there must have been a period of rebellion coming to Aria, who had only been naive.
