The situation was dangerous, one where even allies took damage.
The Colossus reached out and placed Cadet Ian, Stella, Noah, and Dinua on its massive hand.
“Let’s go, Noah.”
“Yes! Hold on tight!”
With its grip tightening, the Colossus leapt over the fortress wall and charged toward the high-class demons advancing slowly. Despite the incoming attack, the demons stood still, their arrogance leaving them vulnerable.
Cadet Ian appreciated their carelessness.
“Anna!”
“Yes, Master.”
“Direct deathblow!”
As the Colossus reached the high-class demon, Ian summoned Anna and unleashed his Origin Art the moment the giant hand opened slightly.
“Holy Cross!”
A brilliant light radiated from the divine cross, searing the demons.
[Ugh…!?]
The demons recoiled in pain, withdrawing under the divine light. Seeing the opportunity, Stella and Dinua summoned their creatures and issued commands.
“Dim! Endless Nightmare!”
“Salamander! Burn them all!”
Dinua’s summon cast a curse that weakened the demons’ resistance, while the Salamander’s flames engulfed the demons’ bodies, setting them ablaze.
Noah, still standing on the Colossus, watched closely. As soon as her companions finished their attacks, she directed the Colossus to stomp down on the demons.
The upper-class demons, crushed under the enormous weight of the Colossus, couldn’t even scream as their bodies were smashed to pulp.
Holding back what he wanted to say, Ian kept his focus on the fallen enemies.
“Did we get them?” He cautiously eyed the crushed remains, still wary of the demons.
He remembered the lessons from the game—high-level demons wouldn’t fall to ordinary attacks so easily. These enemies could only be brought down after multiple special moves, ideally hitting them three times with all summons. The current assault had only reduced about 20% of their health.
Swish—
A sharp metallic sound cut through the air as the Colossus’s foot was severed.
Although the stone Colossus felt no pain, it lost its balance and toppled to the ground.
In the brief moment of chaos, another ankle was sliced through, and the high-ranking demon stepped forward, revealing itself.
Despite the barrage of attacks it had endured, the demon stood tall, barely showing any injuries.
“…This is a high-class demon,” Stella whispered, swallowing hard.
The demon’s appearance was menacing: two sharp horns rose from its head, its skin burned bright red like fire, and its black eyes gleamed with malice. Even its dead skin cells formed a protective armor over its body.
“Demon…”
Anna’s expression darkened as she glared at the creature, grinding her teeth. The Kingdom of Azaria had been destroyed by these demons. Although the kingdom had fallen after her death, Anna had witnessed from the heavens how demons polluted the land and ruined the kingdom. To her, these creatures were nothing short of enemies of the Heaven.
The demon swung its sword-like hand at them with alarming speed. But it wasn’t fast enough to catch Anna off guard.
She raised her shield just in time, blocking the blow.
The demon’s eyes sparkled with intrigue at the shield’s resilience.
[Oh? You’re strong!]
With a grin, the demon grabbed the shield with its other hand and yanked it down, exposing Anna’s face. Its claws lashed toward her head.
Kaga-gak!
The faceplate saved Anna from losing her head, though the attack nearly cost her an eye. With a swift push, Anna created space between herself and the demon, retreating slightly.
“Anna, are you okay?” Ian called out.
“I’m fine, Master. But if he gets any closer…”
“It’s okay.”
Suddenly, a small cry interrupted them.
[Nyao!]
The dark summon perched on Ian’s shoulder meowed softly. With a determined cry, it leapt toward the high-level demon.
[Nyangnyangnyang—]
The demon, fascinated by the cat’s antics, waved its arms playfully. But it quickly realized it had fallen under a spell. The enchantment broke its concentration.
“You’re too late.”
Having wasted too much time, the demon found itself defenseless as the Salamander’s maw swelled with flammable liquid.
“Salamander, melt it.”
[Puquaah!!]
A jet of fire burst forth like a flamethrower, engulfing the demon in flames. It twisted and thrashed in agony, consumed by the searing heat.
Ian watched as the demon writhed, understanding the immense pain of burning alive. Deciding to end the demon’s suffering, he gave Anna a signal.
“Anna.”
“Yes.”
Once more, Anna’s shield glowed with divine light.
The combination of intense heat and holy energy obliterated the demon. Its charred remains collapsed like a roasted bird pulled from an oven.
“…We did it,” Stella whispered in disbelief, staring at the scene.
She could hardly believe that a group of Academy cadets had managed to subdue a high-class demon.
“Ian!”
“Yeah?”
Seeing Stella’s joy, Ian felt his heart lift as well. He opened the system interface to check the experience points, expecting the completion of their main quest.
“…Huh?”
The experience bar hadn’t moved.
That could only mean one thing—the demon wasn’t dead.
Ian’s eyes darted toward the demon’s corpse.
Suddenly, the fallen body twitched and shifted closer to him.
[—D*mn…ugh…]
The demon’s muttered curses, laced with pain, reached Ian’s ears. From afar, Anna and the others stared in shock and confusion.
‘Am I going to die?’ Ian wondered, a sense of déjà vu washing over him.
There wasn’t even time to blink. As the demon raised its hand, Ian felt the world slow down, as if everything had turned to gray.
[A phoenix will soar out of the ashes.]
The strange words echoed in his mind.
Pooh—
A flash of movement pierced through the demon.
“Uh…ugh…?”
“If you can’t even protect our master properly, you don’t deserve the title of paladin,” a sharp voice said.
Theresia stood before them, her fierce glare fixed on Anna as she pierced the demon with a powerful strike.
The others turned to Ian, stunned by the sudden turn of events.

Things are Not Looking Good:
Yes, things are not looking good. As you know, translation requires a lot of time and energy. I translate, edit and proofread the chapters on my own. I will be honest here, I started translating as a hobby, then it evolved to a hope of earning a living by doing something I enjoy.
However, I suffered a chain of misfortunes during and after the pandemic, and earnings from FSM and RTV helped me a lot. It became a significant part of my life. As long as my monthly income bordered around $200, I could make the time to translate in the middle of other works. Then RTV ended, and the earning decreased. Now, it has decreased to around $90-$100. And with PETTV nearing completion, that would decrease even more. A*dsence gets me about $ 0.50 per day, and you can’t get the payment until it reaches $100, so I can’t depend on that either.
It wouldn’t be an issue in normal circumstances, but it matters a lot to me since I am still dealing with a lot of financial troubles. I am currently looking for a job, and will have to invest my time and energy in it once I get it.
Long story short, if you enjoy reading this novel, support the translation if you can, either by becoming a Patron in Patreon, or sponsoring chapters at BuymeaCoffee. You can also take some time to watch a*ds to increase the revenue on A*dsence. Grains of sand together can form a desert.
FSM supporters has been supporting me from the start no matter what, so I would continue to translate FSM as long as I am alive. But for the other projects, I now desperately need your support so that I can spend the time and energy to serve them to you all. That’s all. Thank you.
Okay MC isn’t just stupid, he is completely brain dead! This is the third time that MC froze during battle, all his arrogance and lazy ass bluster and he still makes the same mistakes. And he so arrogantly decided to skip classes. Imbecile. Also he didn’t make sure the enemy is dead before looking for rewards. Greedy much?!
Author is really random with how he depicts the summons. At the begining they were like dolls, golems or pokemons that can’t do anything without summoners spelling them every order, then MC and other characters just shouted their names and summons did all the thinking for how to fight. Now MC’s second summon summons herself to defend Ian. Random much?! Lazy writing much?! Yeah author can make an asspull by saying that it is the second or third life of the phoenix knight but there were no indications that summons learn anything.
Thanks for chapter
