Chapter 36: Nonsense IV (part 2)

It was obviously a gift from my nominal fiance anyway, so I didn’t think Bianca would say anything special even if I didn’t wear it.

Yeah, maybe…

But then, I felt a gaze staring at me from afar.

Feeling some pressure, I moved my eyes and looked to the side, but the true source of that gaze was Aria, who was calmly standing in this direction from the bay.

“…..”

Why was she exuding such an aura? Could it be that I had done something wrong?

Tuck! Tuck! Tuck!

Then Aria walked slowly toward me, exuding a truly unusual atmosphere.

Overwhelmed by her presence, I unknowingly gulped down my saliva.

Before long, Aria’s mouth opened slowly as she approached me.

“Hey, Young Lord. I’m sorry to interrupt the conversation, but would it be all right if I said something?”

“Yes? Go ahead, Aria.”

My father answered in a friendly tone, completely different from when he addressed me. If a stranger saw this scene, it was understandable if they mistook Aria for my father’s real daughter.

“Thank you. Do you mind if I take a look at that tie pin from before? Of course, I’m well aware that it’s disrespectful. But, still…”

When Aria spoke hesitantly, my father nodded in a truly cool manner.

“Is that why you’re showing that kind of attitude? It’s okay, Aria. Go ahead and take a look.”

Saying so, my father obediently handed over the tie pin to Aria.

“Thank you.”

After receiving the tie pin from my father, Aria stared at it without speaking for a while.

It was a terrifying look, as if she were facing the enemy who murdered her parents.

“…yes?”

However, after a moment, Aria looked at the tie pin with an expression of ‘this isn’t it.’

“…ugh.”

In the end, she handed the tie pin back to my father with tears in her eyes, as if she had gained nothing from her inspection.

“Duke, I’m sorry. I must have been too sensitive…”

“Heh heh, it’s okay, Aria. I heard that you are focusing on magic these days? Mages have much more sensitive senses than normal people, so they could be mistaken for that. I understand.”

My father laughed and comforted Aria, who was downcast.

And I didn’t say it either, but I agreed with my father. It was true that Bianca was crazy, but she wasn’t stupid enough to mess with a gift like this.

“Hmm, but you’re taking Aria with you on this journey after all. Didn’t you tell me at first that you wouldn’t take her with you?”

“Yeah, I didn’t intend to take her. However…”

“However?”

“There is no reason not to take her when she is strong enough. Crucially, Aria herself had strong hopes.”

I let out a sigh involuntarily as I recalled Aria visiting my room this morning and literally begging me.

“How can I resist her request when she says so pitifully that she can be of help too? At least I can’t be that cold-blooded.”

“Hmm.”

In fact, even at this moment, I wondered if taking Aria with me was really the right thing to do. For some reason, it felt like playing with fire. If, and it was only in the realm of what if, but if my predictions were true, having Aria and Bianca face to face would be the worst thing ever.

Of course, the Princess and Ariel didn’t show any reaction to Aria, so there was a much higher chance that nothing would happen, but there’s nothing wrong with being careful.

After thinking about it for a long time, I finally decided to accept Aria’s offer.

As Aria said, it was impossible to just play around with people who could be of sufficient help here. Especially when considering that the Castana Marquis family was a dangerous place, and we didn’t know what would happen.

‘…then what should I do with that guy?’

I glanced at the thorny guy who was staying at the Estel family in the form of an entrustment. Even though I hadn’t said anything yet, he came toward me, apparently having something to say, and spoke hastily as if trying to make an excuse.

“…I will make sure that I stay quietly in the Estel duchy.”

Lucian, perhaps realizing what I was about to say to him, quickly jumped in before I could open my mouth.

“Why?”

I responded bluntly to his words.

“…Cain von Estel. I’m not staying here for free. I’m sure I’m paying you more than a certain amount every month to stay here. Also, I am in charge of training the knights of the Duchy of Estel. I want to tell you that it would be extremely unreasonable to ask anything more of me than this.”

Indeed, I thought Lucian’s words were reasonable and quite persuasive. His argument had a lot of validity, so I nodded my head unconsciously, influenced by Lucian’s speech.

“So what? I’ve heard that there are signs that monsters are coming into action in the northern village. Go hunting with the knights. If news comes that even one bird has been missed and the residents have been harmed, it will be all your fault, so know that.”

“…that, again, is unreasonable. Why the he…!”

Lucian’s face crumpled at my remarks, but unfortunately, I found it unpleasant for a man to frown in front of me.

So, there was only one thing I could say to him.

“Just because…”
