‘What if 3-star Summoners got together?’
I got up right away and headed to Syrah.
She was sitting alone, playing with something that looked like clay.
“…Syrah?”
“Yes? Cadet Ian? What’s up?”
“What is that?”
“Slime. It’s fun. Do you want to play with it too?”
She wasn’t even in elementary school anymore, and seeing Syrah playing with slime made me sigh.
Holding back a laugh, I told her what the other cadets were planning and suggested we form a team together. However, upon hearing this, Syrah sighed, as if troubled, and shook her head.
“That’s not going to work out.”
“Why not?”
“You’ll see on exam day.”
“Well, wouldn’t it be better for us to form an alliance for now?”
“Ahahaha—useless.”
As if she knew something, Syrah smirked. However, she didn’t outright reject my offer. After making an alliance with her, I returned to my place with a bit more peace of mind.
On the other hand, I couldn’t shake off a nagging doubt about her response. That ambivalence lingered even after the academy day had ended.
“It won’t go the way you think.”
Later, after classes ended, Stella approached me to propose an alliance, saying the same thing as Syrah.
Curious, I asked her why. She explained as if it were obvious.
“Don’t the instructors know that 3-star Summoners would be unstoppable if they teamed up?”
“…What are they going to do?”
“Just know that, last year, the top rank was actually taken by a 2-star Summoner.”
“No way…”
Hearing her words left me troubled, and I spent the evening deep in thought about how to win the survival test.
***
Time passed, and the day of the survival test finally arrived. I’d come up with a few strategies, but I wasn’t sure how effective they’d be.
‘Things rarely go as planned in practice.’
After putting on my academy uniform and heading to class, I noticed that the atmosphere was already charged. The cadets were visibly excited at the prospect of participating in a high-stakes trial.
Amid this intense energy, Oliver, appearing in the middle of the room, stood in front of the academy table, a satisfied smile crossing his face as he observed the eager expressions around him.
“Today’s a special exam day. Everyone, head to the auditorium.”
The cadets got up and filed toward the auditorium in an orderly manner. The entire academy had gathered there.
Despite the sheer number of people, which would typically result in a chaotic scene, the room was eerily silent, not a single breath out of place.
As soon as everyone was seated, the principal stepped up to the podium in the auditorium. She glanced over the crowd for a moment before showing a smile, then leaned into the microphone.
“Today is a special exam day. Some cadets may have a rough idea of the exam, while others may not.”
At her words, a few cadets whispered to each other, wondering aloud if information about the test had been leaked.
The principal ignored their murmurs and continued.
“It doesn’t matter. In practice, victory isn’t achieved solely by having the most information. Use your wits, freshmen. Rely on experience, seniors.”
After her brief advice, she began explaining the exam rules.
“The rules are simple. Whoever breaks this bracelet first takes all of the opponent’s points. Isn’t that simple?”
“…Principal, you forgot one thing.”
“Oh, and if anyone attacks directly, they’ll be disqualified. Beyond that, figure it out yourselves. That’s all.”
As soon as the principal finished, some mages entered, placing bracelets on each cadet’s wrist. The bracelets looked more like smartwatches than typical jewelry and were magical artifacts designed to protect cadets in emergencies.
The mage attaching the artifact to my wrist spoke in a calm tone.
“Now, please wait a moment. We’ll be moving to the exam area shortly.”
“…Is this teleportation magic?”
“Yes? Well, you could say that.”
The mage shook his head, giving a vague answer. It was indeed teleportation—a technology nonexistent on Earth.
The cadets, thrilled at the chance to experience unfamiliar magic, chatted excitedly with each other. Once all the bracelets were secured, the principal spoke again, her voice amplified throughout the auditorium.
“Alright, let’s begin the test.”
With that, her voice echoed through the hall, and the cadets waited, a mixture of anticipation and anxiety written across their faces.
A moment later, the bracelets emitted a soft light, enveloping us all.

When I regained awareness, I found myself alone in an unfamiliar forest. Only then did I understand what Stella and Syrah had meant.
‘They must have separated us from each other.’
If that was the case, forming alliances in advance had little purpose. Wandering through the forest in hopes of finding other cadets wouldn’t yield high chances of success.
Beep!
A sound came from the bracelet. Looking down, I saw [30:00] displayed on the screen, flashing green.
‘So there’s a time limit…’
Fortunately, I could hide the remaining time by adjusting the settings. Since concealing the remaining time was a valuable advantage, I hid it immediately and surveyed my surroundings.
“Now… Should I look for food?”
It was absurd. For a modern person, such a thought seemed nearly impossible.
As I pondered how to find sustenance, I heard a rustling from the bushes nearby.
“Uh?”
It was a senior with a green tie—a second-year cadet.

@goblin Shouldn’t it be that MC looked for Stella to propose alliance? Not the other way around?
