In the back of the hall where Cain von Estel and Bianca del Castana were supposed to get engaged, there was a quiet passage leading to the waiting room.
Bianca del Castana was walking through a place where no one was allowed to enter except those related to the couple. Her face was hardened, carrying a hint of urgency. She quickened her pace and eventually entered the bridal waiting room at the back of the wedding hall.
Knock!
The door swung open.
Inside the waiting room, several ladies-in-waiting were prepared to serve Bianca, the protagonist of the engagement ceremony. They looked at her in astonishment, as she burst into the room without any prior warning.
It was unusual—Bianca del Castana, the noble lady they knew, was someone who never forgot her grace or elegance. She always carried herself with poise, and this abrupt entrance was completely out of character.
“…Ah, My Lady? There’s still some time left before the engagement ceremony begins. Why did you come here…?” one of the ladies-in-waiting asked cautiously, her expression filled with concern.
Bianca’s response was cold and sharp.
“…Get out.”
“…Excuse me?”
With a hardened tone, Bianca spoke again, this time more forcefully to the puzzled lady-in-waiting. She appeared tired, as though she no longer wished to engage in any further conversation.
“Did you not hear me? I told you to get out. I don’t want to be in this room with anyone right now. I want to be alone. So, leave. Now.”
Her tone left no room for further questioning.
The ladies-in-waiting quickly bowed their heads at the sudden change in Bianca’s demeanor, which was so different from the emotionless figure she usually presented. They assumed she must have experienced something unpleasant outside.
“…Understood, my lady. If you need us, please ring the chime.”
With that, the ladies-in-waiting hurriedly exited the room, one by one. They could tell something was wrong. Bianca’s mood was far from normal—something bad must have happened. The last thing they wanted was to linger and risk drawing her ire.
As soon as the final lady-in-waiting passed through the door, Bianca’s condition rapidly deteriorated.
“Cheup…!”
B!ood poured from her mouth. She could no longer hold it in. Pretending to be fine in front of others had drained the last of her patience. The internal injuries she suffered were far too severe to keep hidden any longer.
Thrrrt!
The b!ood she vomited was dark and thick, a clear sign her body was far from in a normal state. Among the sticky black fluid, small lumps—pieces of her intest!nes—were interspersed.
“Ha, da*mn…!”
Unable to bear the pain, Bianca collapsed to her knees. The world around her spun wildly, and she couldn’t focus on anything in front of her. Her head throbbed with agony, as if thousands of needles were piercing her brain.
“Guuk…!”
Bianca instinctively covered her mouth with her hand as another wave of nausea surged through her. A hellish retching rose from the depths of her throat, and a groan, almost animalistic, escaped her lips. The pain was overwhelming, as if her entire body was being consumed by fire.
Her once beautiful white dress slowly became stained with the black blood she had just vomited. The sight was dreadful, as though the dress was no longer meant for a bride but for a funeral.
“…Ah, uh…”
However, the condition of her dress was the least of her concerns. What mattered more to Bianca was the fear that her groans might be overheard. If word got out that the bride had vomited b!ood mere hours before the engagement, the ceremony could be delayed—possibly for days—due to health concerns.
“…That can’t happen…”
That alone was unacceptable. No matter what, she couldn’t afford to delay her engagement to him. She had endured so much for so long, and now her patience was running out.
With trembling hands, she raised her right arm and channeled her mana, forming a handprint with her fingers. It was a basic spell, one that isolated sounds from within the room.
Drrring!
A soundproof barrier enveloped the waiting room. Now, it was certain—no sound would escape beyond these walls.
And then—
“Aaagh!”
As soon as she used the magic, Bianca experienced excruciating pain, as if all the blood vessels in her body were being torn apart.
