Chapter 48: Nonsense XVI (part 1)

The engagement hall, where Cain von Estel and Bianca del Castana’s engagement was held, was, in a word, a truly splendid place.

The wedding hall was a pure white space made entirely of marble. From the pillars at the front supporting the ceremony hall to the shiny, polished tiles, there was no place left untouched by craftsmen.

The wedding hall had a completely white atmosphere, so the guests who participated in today’s engagement ceremony couldn’t help but fall into the illusion that this place was some kind of fantastical world.

On the ceiling, a huge chandelier with crystals grafted one by one reflected the lights of the ceremony hall and emitted brilliant starlight. After being elaborately trimmed by dozens of craftsmen, the chandelier, adorning the ceiling of the ceremony hall with a flower bud in full bloom, stood proudly as a work of art.

The ornate patterns on the walls and ceiling were all painted over with gold and silver, and graceful flowers such as white peonies and hydrangeas were placed here and there on the floor of the ceremony hall.

By the way, the idea to have hydrangeas in the wedding hall came from Bianca’s strong insistence.

As for the guests, the faces of those who participated in today’s engagement ceremony were equally impressive. A total of thirty-two guests gathered here today were only those who entered the ranks of the great nobility that dominated the north.

Thinking that such people would be living witnesses to her and Cain’s engagement ceremony today, Bianca couldn’t hide her satisfaction.

With so many noble attendees, a security system that could only be called strict was built around the ceremony. Inside the hall, it was forbidden to bear any weapons, regardless of rank, unless permission had been obtained in advance.

Even the owner of this place, the Marquis of Castana, had to enter the ceremony hall unarmed. Indeed, it was perfect. Today’s engagement ceremony was perfect even for Bianca. It would have been next to impossible for anyone in the world to interfere with their engagement ceremony today.

She was currently wearing a lavish white dress that exposed her curves without filtering. While her pure white skin was visible in certain areas, the dense decorations adorning the dress gave it a luxurious, restrained feeling rather than an erotic one.

From a distance, she appeared like a bride, exactly as she intended.

To her left stood Cain, wearing the formal attire of a ducal heir.

Bianca smiled involuntarily at the stiff expression on his face, as if he were nervous about the upcoming ceremony. She found this rare display of emotion quite attractive.

Without thinking, Bianca grabbed Cain’s hand as she noticed his tense expression. Primarily, it was to help him relax, but as they were about to get engaged, she felt this gesture was only natural.

“Cain…”

At that moment, Bianca’s gaze landed on a white-haired girl sitting in the front row, tears streaming down her face as she watched them holding hands.

Bianca smirked at the white-haired girl, who gazed at her with a mixture of awe and sorrow. She knew well enough that this girl had unusual feelings for Cain.

How could she not? Though she claimed to be nothing more than Cain’s maid, her eyes betrayed her unspoken affection.

At first, Bianca found it irritating, especially since this girl—often referred to as a “witch” who brought disaster to the world—was always trailing Cain. It must have been something hard for him to endure.

But now, Bianca found her more amusing than bothersome. The girl was nothing more than a loser, someone who harbored feelings for Cain but couldn’t bring herself to express them.

As Bianca watched her, slumped like a defeated dog, a sense of pride swelled in her chest. At this moment, Bianca felt she might be the happiest person in the world.

“Heh, they couldn’t be more perfect—a good-looking couple if I’ve ever seen one,” said the bishop officiating the engagement, smiling warmly at them.

Bianca responded graciously, “You flatter us, Bishop.”

“Heh, it’s no flattery. Lady Castana, I’ve officiated countless ceremonies over the decades, but I’ve never seen a pair that matched as well as you two. May your happiness last forever. I bless you in the name of the goddess.”

With those words, the bishop smiled benevolently and radiated a soft beam of divine power over their heads. Particles of light gently landed on Cain and Bianca, illuminating them with a heavenly glow. The guests watching couldn’t help but applaud.

Clap, clap, clap—

The only person who didn’t clap was Aria, who looked at them with a tearful expression.

Seeing Aria’s reaction only made Bianca feel even better.

“Now then, let’s exchange rings. With this, the two of you will be officially engaged, in both name and reality,” the bishop announced.

Cain took out a small ring box from his chest and picked up a pair of rings.

The rings were lavishly designed, featuring a platinum rim and a large diamond on top.

Even Bianca, with her discerning eye, couldn’t imagine a better choice for their engagement.

Cain held out the ring with one hand and extended his other hand toward her. It was a clear sign for her to accept the ring.

“…Ahh.”

Bianca felt her breath catch in her throat.

How long had she waited for this moment? How many times had she dreamed of it?

She had to steady her trembling hands.

Once Cain placed the ring on her finger, they would officially be engaged, sealing their bond.

There would be no more reason to feel inferior to Sarah Cernard or harbor any ill feelings toward her. Sarah was merely a part of Cain’s past. Now, in this moment, Bianca was the only one by his side.
