Chapter 5: Wedding Dress (part 2)

Something scooped up in a ladle was placed on a plate.

Julius hesitantly pulled out his chair and sat down at the table, swallowing dry saliva.

A plate was carefully placed in front of him, and soon Cecile, who had scooped up her share, motioned for him to eat it quickly.

The mouth of the fish’s head, which made eye contact with him, opened slightly. Even though he didn’t know what it was saying, he felt like he understood it.

This was revelation.

The Lord seemed to have mercifully not yet abandoned this poor son.

Now was the time to fulfill the role of the faithful heretic inquisitor of the Telmere Church!

With a small flick of his finger, a pure white flame began to bloom, starting with purple bubbles rising up. The sacred flame, which never went out when it encountered evil until it had consumed all its teeth, devoured the stew on his behalf, and the dish came back as clean as new.

Cecile gaped in front of him, as if embarrassed.

“Honey, are you out of your mind, setting fire to the breakfast I worked so hard to prepare?”

Cecile’s expression gradually became grim. The situation was the same as before. But back then, he swallowed all the soot, but now the situation was different.

“Cecile….”

“Here we go again. What on earth are you dissatisfied with this time?”

“No, at least her cooking was edible.”

With these words, he slowly got up, crossed the living room, and kicked down the front door.

Cecile, who had experienced a similar situation before, did not stay still this time.

“Are you burning my food, which was called a revolution in Devil World cuisine 1000 years ago? It’s embarrassing… I can never forgive you!”

Unable to hold back her anger, she huffed and scooped up a large spoonful of the stew that was turning green, stuffing it into her small mouth.

“Wow… What does this taste like… Wow….”

After pouring out everything inside her, even the gastric juices, she realized that her tastes changed when she was in a human body.

She went out to look for Julius, clutching her hungry stomach, and found him eating buttered toast in front of Finn’s bread shop.

Enraged, she kicked him in the waist.

For reference, she bought a sandwich with meat at the bakery and ate it. Enjoying the luxury of pampering her tongue, Cecile decided to learn baking from Finn.

“Do you want me to buy you clothes?”

After eating a slightly late breakfast, Julius, who had been thinking about going for a walk in the small forest behind the mansion to digest his food, questioned Cecile’s words as she turned her back to him, muttering in dissatisfaction.

“Okay, buy me some clothes! I’m also a girl, so does it make sense that I only have one set of clothes?”

She pointed to her white blouse and long, light brown skirt and then spun around. Cecile’s cheeks puffed out as she looked back at him.

Despite not being a child, she was throwing a tantrum. Seeing her childish behavior, Julius stroked her hair once.

“…Just one set of clothes for spring, summer, fall, and winter is enough.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, he was kicked in the shins. He didn’t feel anything, but it somehow stung.

“Stop talking nonsense and follow me. I saw earlier that there’s a store selling clothes in front of the bread store. I need to take a look at my husband’s wallet.”

Leaving only her words behind, Cecile marched back the way she came.

Julius took a short breath through his nose and measured the weight of the purse in his arms. Most of the money he had brought from the capital was deposited in the church’s treasury, but it seemed like there was enough to buy clothes.

Shrugging his shoulders, he followed the scent of his wife, who was already starting to fade.

Finn’s bread shop, which made delicious bread that was second to none in the market, was loved by most people in Kente. The owner of the clothing store across from it, however, was someone in the unfortunate position of not being among that majority.

“I can’t even open my store door properly because of this damn bread smell! You made a lot of money, so go somewhere else, Finn!!”

The woman with a particularly sensitive nose was Rosa, the owner of a store specializing in Kente women’s clothing. To her, who regarded each piece of clothing as if it were her own child, Finn’s bakery was just the heinous villain across the street, making her clothes smell strange.

Today, Rosa, still cursing Finn’s business, changed her expression completely when she saw a brown-haired woman approaching with brisk steps from afar.

“Oh my, who is this? Naughty Jul’s wife?”

“Hehehehe, hello. My name is Cecile Lionelta, whom I greeted last time.”

Rosa smiled, her earlier anger vanishing, and greeted Cecile.

Julius looked at his wife, Cecile, whom he had kept hidden. Her soft brown hair flowed down like a waterfall, and her bright pink lips formed a pretty voice. The slightly reddened cheeks subtly showed how excited she was. However, looking into her deep and cloudy blue eyes made him feel a little uneasy, so he secretly averted his gaze.

“Rosa, it’s been a while.”

Julius appeared, late to greet her, holding his wife’s weight incongruously behind him.

Rosa found it odd that Julius had changed so much over the past 10 years, but thinking that he probably wanted to look cool in front of his wife, she smiled slightly and welcomed them.

“Julius! How could you keep such a beautiful wife hidden away and keep quiet, itching to show her off?”

The blonde boy, now a grown man, laughed bitterly as Rosa tapped his chest with her elbow.

Cecile had already entered the store and was looking around with her mouth slightly open.

After asking Rosa for permission, she repeatedly held various clothes up to her body in front of a cracked, slightly blurry full-length mirror in the corner.

“What kind of clothes should I wear today, honey?” she asked, holding a black shirt in one hand and a red dress in the other.

Julius thought for a moment before uttering the typical line husbands often say.

“You’re pretty no matter what you wear.”

It seemed she really liked that, as she hummed a tune and continued picking out clothes.

Julius, watching the scene, turned to Rosa, who was also watching with satisfaction.

“…Are there no white dresses here?”

“Hmm… No more white dresses. In the past, many wore it for weddings because of its purity, but now the trend is toward blue dresses, and women’s clothing goes out of style quickly.”

“I see.”

Rosa noticed Julius stroking his face with his hand and letting out a small breath.

“But there is one white dress. I had some fabric left over a while ago.”

Rosa took out a simple white dress from the corner and showed it off. Julius’s dull golden eyes turned pure white.

“That would be nice.”

“This is plain. Are you sure? If you’re going to give it to your wife as a gift, I’d suggest something fancier.”

Cecile’s ears twitched as she listened to their conversation. She turned her head slightly to look at Julius, who was in a pretty good mood today.

He took out a coin from his pocket, touched it, and asked again.

“How much to buy all the clothes here?”

“My clothes are high-end items, recognized even in the capital. If you want to buy all the clothes here, you’d need at least one platinum coin, hahahaha!”

“That’ll be fine. Please give me all the clothes here.”

He willingly handed Rosa a coin he had rolled a few times in his hand. The salary received by the heresy inquisitors in the capital, who risked their lives, was enormous, and Julius was among the best.

Seeing the man spend the equivalent of two houses as a gift for his wife, Rosa could not close her mouth in shock. She stared at the large white coin in her hand. Even as a luxury goods artisan, it was the first time she had held such a large amount of money at once.

In disbelief, Rosa darted out of her shop and into the bread shop across the street. She grabbed Finn’s face as he came out to display new bread and gave him a deep kiss.

In that inexplicable situation, Cecile dropped the green robe she was holding, her eyes wide in surprise.

As it turned out, Finn and Rosa had been known as a lovebird couple since the days when Julius served as Kente’s street leader.

“Huh.”

Julius felt so happy he couldn’t help but laugh.
