Chapter 62: Truth (part 2)

But as long as I wasn’t crazy, I couldn’t miss the opportunity to legally skip class, right? Having obtained legal public service approval from the academy nurse, I looked at her and asked cautiously.

“… How about Senior Dinua?”

“You are kind.”

“… What?”

“You’re worried about the person who stabbed you.”

Saying this, she stroked my forehead and told me about Dinua.

“The child is on probation now.”

“Probation?”

“Yes. Because there was evidence suggesting she might have collaborated with demons.”

When I heard that, I shook my head. When I asked where the scroll that Dinua wrote for me came from, it seemed like she might have been working with a demon.

‘With demons?’

“No, how…?”

“That hasn’t been revealed yet—it’s probably being investigated under interrogation.”

“Interrogated…?”

I didn’t know how she came into contact with the demons, but I knew Dinua had the potential to become a significant threat, powerful enough to destroy the academy.

‘This is a big problem.’

It was hard to imagine how terrible the interrogation disguised as “investigation” would be for Dinua if she were accused of collaborating with the enemy of humankind—the demons—in a world without human rights protections.

And what if she endured so much pain and stress? It was entirely possible she might turn into a demon herself.

The fact that Dinua, who had never left the academy, somehow ended up with a magic scroll made by demons was already shocking enough. Demons were everywhere and nowhere.

“…nurse.”

“What?”

“I want to go see my senior right now.”

“No, your safety is the top priority right now, and that child is off-limits—”

“Empress.”

I summoned my summon without waiting for her response. Empress, a 4-star summon, bowed her head as she appeared and spoke with an apologetic expression.

“… Summoner, I’m sorry. I didn’t know.”

“It’s pathetic.”

“I’m truly sorry. I have no excuse. It was disrespectful to the name of the Great Witch…”

“Then repay me with your power.”

“Do you want me to repay you with my power?”

“Yes.”

Hearing my words, she blushed and crossed her arms over her chest.

“Ah, ah, no. That’s a bit…”

“What are you thinking? Empress, do you know where Senior Dinua is?”

“… That girl?”

“Yes.”

“Wait a moment… —I found her.”

Empress closed her eyes briefly and used her magic to scan the entire academy. Though the academy had its own defensive magic in place, it was no match for Empress, a magician powerful enough to be considered a 4-star hero.

“Let’s move.”

“Wait, what are you doing—!”

“Aha, so that’s what you meant by repaying with your power.”

The concerned teacher rushed in, but faster than her, Empress grabbed my hand.

“Good luck, Summoner.”

Frowning, I closed my eyes, and the world turned upside down.

[Dinua’s POV]

Thuddd!

“Answer me!!!”

“… Please, let me meet Ian.”

“Hmph—Cadet Erebus, if you continue being uncooperative, you won’t be safe. Your family won’t either!”

“… Really?”

“So, just cooperate quickly.”

“Ian. Let me see Ian.”

“Oh my gosh—!”

The heretic inquisitor slammed the desk aggressively, but Dinua didn’t flinch.

If this had been her past self, she might have trembled and begged for forgiveness. But now, she felt nothing.

Ian had been stabbed and taken away. The only thing left in her mind was Ian.

If it weren’t for the handcuffs suppressing her ability to summon, she would have fought her way out to see him.

‘Ian…’

Her chest ached with every beat. She wanted to see Ian. She wanted to embrace him and apologize.

“…I will come back later.”

The inquisitor left those words and exited the room. Though Dinua had committed a crime and was imprisoned, she was still the daughter of a marquis. Torture wasn’t an option.

Moreover, as a summoner of a 3-star summon, the risk of her summon running wild and destroying the place had to be considered.

“Ian, Ian… Ian…”

The voice of a demon whispered in her ears again.

[Tell me this time…]

“Shut up!”

This time, she didn’t fall for it. Dinua covered her ears and crouched down.

She had already made a grave mistake by succumbing to the demon once and stabbing Ian. She couldn’t let it happen again.

Demons were the enemies of humankind. She finally understood why.

“Ian… I miss you…”

Dinua sobbed until she collapsed from exhaustion. But a loud noise snapped her back to attention.

“Agh… I almost died.”

“It’s my first time traveling with someone else… I’m sorry, Summoner.”

It was Ian who appeared before her. For a moment, she wondered if this was another hallucination caused by the demon.

What if it was?

What if it wasn’t?

“… Ian?”

“Oh, Senior Dinua.”

“Ian—!”

Dinua threw her arms around Ian and began crying, her tears filled with regret.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry… Sob, I, I was stupid—so selfish…”

“Hey, what did you do wrong?”

“I didn’t like seeing you with other girls, sniff… I wondered what you thought of me—so, so…”

Her thoughts were jumbled, and coherent sentences wouldn’t come out.

Thankfully, Ian patted her back gently.

“It’s okay, Senior.”

At those words, Dinua broke down, burying her face in his chest.

She cried sorrowfully—just cried.

[Ian’s POV]

‘… It’s distracting.’

I couldn’t help but notice the impressive volume of Dinua’s mounds pressed against me.

Before coming here, I’d been a little angry, but now that I’d met her, my frustration seemed to vanish mysteriously.

‘I should be angry…’

But somehow, I couldn’t stay mad at her.

There were places where anger was justified, but this wasn’t one of them.
