Chapter 64: Text (part 1)

“Really? Do you truly know nothing?”

“I don’t know anything.”

No matter how much I insisted, Syrah didn’t drop her suspicious gaze.

No matter how much I knew, I couldn’t reveal anything—it wasn’t my place to do so.

After somehow shaking off Syrah’s persistence, I pretended not to notice her suspicion for the rest of the class. Even so, I realized that Syrah didn’t want me to press the issue, so I changed the subject.

“Oh, then, would you like to come with me?”

“Come with you… where?”

“To Senior Dinua!”

At first, I wondered if it was appropriate to visit someone under suspension, but then I figured there was no harm in it.

A demerit? Not a big deal. Even if I were penalized, it wouldn’t affect me as a 4-star Summoner.

“…Fine. Just don’t cause me too much trouble.”

“Yes!”

I noticed her hesitance when she didn’t outright deny being annoyed, but I decided to let it slide and waited for the class to end.

“Come on, this one, and this one—ah, and this too!”

“…Are you sure you want to visit Senior Dinua?”

“We can’t go empty-handed, can we? Don’t you even know basic manners?”

After class, Syrah dragged me to the shopping street outside the academy. It wasn’t as if we were visiting someone in a hospital—just someone suspended from classes. Why on earth would we need perfume?

As I stood there, dumbfounded by the growing pile of items in our basket, a familiar voice called out from below.

“Syrah? Is that Ian?”

“Oh, Noah! Hi!”

Hearing Noah’s voice, I leaned around the towering pile of bags to see her. She peered out from behind the luggage, her face flushed and smiling brightly.

“Hello, Noah. It’s good to see you too.”

“Ah! Noah! By the way, how did it go last time?”

“Last time?”

“You know, that thing.”

Syrah interrupted me, taking Noah aside and leaving me out of the conversation.

I was curious about what they were discussing, but I knew better than to intrude. It wasn’t unusual for women to have topics they didn’t want men to overhear—like personal matters or weight.

Honestly, Noah and Syrah seemed close enough to share anything. Given their personalities, it wasn’t surprising that they’d hit it off with just about anyone.

After a while, Syrah returned, looking slightly flustered.

“What’s up with Noah?”

“She’s busy, so she had to go.”

“Alright.”

I didn’t think much of it, assuming Noah really was occupied. Syrah, however, wasted no time dragging me into yet another store.

What started as a simple errand to greet Senior Dinua had spiraled into a shopping spree, with most of the items seemingly meant for Syrah or me rather than for Dinua.

By this point, I couldn’t ignore it anymore.

“Hey, you.”

“Yes? What is it?”

“Today… you tricked me into being your porter.”

“…What?”

Syrah froze for a moment, her expression stiffening, but she quickly relaxed and let out a nervous laugh.

“Hehe, you caught me.”

“I’m done. Let’s just go to Senior Dinua already.”

“Alright!”

Hearing that, she finally led the way to the dormitory. Meanwhile, an exasperated voice echoed in my mind.

[Summoner, I thought you were clever, but you’re just dense.]

‘What are you on about now?’

Shaking my head to dismiss the unwarranted remark, I followed Syrah to Dinua’s dormitory.

***

Being suspended didn’t mean there were no consequences. Suspended cadets weren’t allowed to attend the academy or earn grades during that period.

However, most of the academy’s education focused on practical applications of Origin Art, and Senior Dinua, who loved reading and had already mastered the theoretical aspects, likely wasn’t missing out much by being absent for a few days.

Syrah arrived at Dinua’s dormitory and knocked casually on the door. Being the daughter of a marquise, Dinua’s dormitory was just as grand as Stella’s.

After a moment, a maid’s voice responded from inside.

“Who is it?”

“Oh, it’s Senior Dinua’s room, right?”

“Yes, but…”

“I’m here to visit her. Could you open the door?”

“My lady is currently under suspension…”

“What does that matter?”

“…I’ll inform her and return shortly.”

With that, the maid retreated inside.
