Chapter 7: Whispering to an Elf Girl I

Even if it feels a bit unnatural, all I need to do is go up to her and snap my fingers.

After that, I’ll dominate the situation. It’s not difficult.

I spent time wandering around outside the guild. I couldn’t go too far since I needed to know when the girl who entered the guild would come out.

Though our goals seemed similar yet different, there were many people gathered, wanting to catch a glimpse of a diamond-rank hunter emerging from the guild.

So, waiting wasn’t entirely boring.

By selectively listening to the chatter of the crowd, I managed to pick up a few pieces of information.

They say her nickname, “The Noble Huntress,” which might sound embarrassing depending on how you hear it, comes from her extreme aversion to interacting with others and her habit of achieving feats alone.

This was one of the ideal conditions I had in mind.

Why? It’s a common issue when hypnotizing a beautiful w0man as a target—if her interpersonal relationships are too strong and her emergency network is too thorough, it becomes a real hassle.

Especially in modern times, I once freaked out realizing it’s possible for one person to know over a thousand others.

Surface-level relationships can be severed by hypnotizing the w0man herself, but when too many people recognize her one-sidedly, or unexpected connections she didn’t even know about keep popping up, it’s caused unforeseen problems plenty of times.

That’s why, when I came to this world, I wanted to target a w0man with as few ties as possible.

Another rumor I heard ties into the first one—she’s supposedly an elf.

I don’t know much about elves beyond what others know, but it seems she’s so wary of humans that she doesn’t reveal her name, so it’s not even known.

Famous without a known name?

Is she some kind of archetype for a strong, beautiful archer?

Either way, she’ll spill everything from her own m0uth soon enough. In front of me.

Her name, her memories, what she likes, what she hates—all of it.

An elf girl emerged from the guild.

This time, I closely examined her ears, but they didn’t look particularly different from human ones.

A crowd of people rushed toward her, but I deliberately hung back and waited.

Many had waited to exchange a word with her, yet the elf girl remained expressionless throughout. When the chatter died down, she turned her head and walked away.

“Wow, she’s really gorgeous.”

“I like her even though she didn’t say a word.”

“I’d love to see her smile just once.”

The men grumbled briefly before dispersing.

It didn’t seem like anyone else planned to follow her, unlike me. Well, that’s natural enough.

If someone intended to do something to her, they’d need to be stronger than a diamond-rank hunter first.

I casually kept my distance and followed the elf girl.

Observing her rear calmly, I really wanted her. Especially those thighs—their exquisite thickness was downright criminal.

As I watched her legs and h!ps move with her light, graceful steps, she gradually headed into an alley with fewer people.

It crossed my mind that she might have noticed me tailing her.

“Who are you?”

The girl asked without even turning around.

“I’ve been waiting because I have something to say.”

“Don’t come closer.”

Her voice was sharp as a blade.

When she turned, she mimed holding a bow with her bare hands, staring at me intently as she spoke.

Her tone was closer to a warning than anything else.

“Step back as you are, and don’t show yourself in front of me again.”

“I just…”

“There’s a dangerous smell coming from you.”

“Huh?”

“A terribly dangerous smell I’ve never encountered before.”

Did she sense it instinctively? That’s chillingly sharp.

I thought she was just pretending, but when I looked at her hands again, a bow and arrow had semi-transparently materialized.

They looked like weapons made of glass.

“If you make any suspicious moves, I’ll kill you. Faster than a blink.”

“…”

I sighed inwardly.

I might have approached this too casually. I’d only seen her going solo as an advantage, but thinking about it the other way around—

This girl had accomplished feats alone that others couldn’t. It wouldn’t be strange if her wariness was several times stronger than most.

Her threat to kill me felt so genuine that I took a step back.

“I’m not a dangerous person. My name’s Decal. I came to Dry Village not long ago.”

“I don’t want to hear it. Go.”

…That’s some wariness worthy of her looks.

Should I admit defeat and back off? Or force it and snap my fingers anyway?

She’s already drawn her weapon as if she’s seen through my very nature—would doing that even work?

Killing me faster than a blink isn’t just bravado or nonsense.

No choice, then.

I’d have to reveal that I’m an agent of the goddess here and pique her interest.

It’s something I’d rather not disclose since there’s nothing good about it, but that’s how badly I didn’t want to let this w0man slip away.

“What, not that idiot from earlier?”

“Huh?!”

Suddenly, I was shoved aside and fell over.

Looking up, Salic was smirking down at me.

“Lady, don’t mind whatever this m0ron said. He’s a loser who can’t even reach bronze rank.”

“…”

“You…”

“I was gonna teach you a lesson earlier, but you ran off, didn’t you?”

Salic kicked me without hesitation.

Ugh! That b*stard. Getting hit out of nowhere hurt like hell.

“Get up. I’ll make sure you snap out of it.”

“Stop it.”

Just then, the elf girl intervened, stopping Salic.

“That man didn’t say anything to me.”

“Good to know. Lady, is this your first time in Dry Village? Let me treat you to a meal.”

The elf girl shook her head expressionlessly.

“Hmph…”

Rejected, Salic glared at me in frustration, spat on the ground, and walked off.

“Ugh…”

It’d been a while since I last took a solid hit.

As I struggled to get up from the ground, the girl approached me.

She wasn’t holding a weapon anymore.

“Here.”

She offered her hand without hesitation.

What? After being so on edge just a moment ago…

“Sorry for scaring you with weird words. I think I misunderstood…”

Ahh.

I could imagine how pitiful I must’ve looked to her.

Hesitating, unable to even talk to her, then suddenly falling and getting beaten up.

It wasn’t staged at all—just pure coincidence. That guy barged in as the perfect villain, diffusing her suspicions.

“That stuff about a dangerous smell coming from me?”

I raised my arm and pretended to sniff my b0dy.

At that, the girl showed a rare, genuine expression and looked shy.

“…Th-that was…”

“Weird. I showered, though.”

“Anyway… I’m going.”

The girl tried to bolt away as if fleeing.

“Wait a sec.”

“Yes?”

I snapped my fingers right in front of her eyes.

It was perfect timing, catching her off guard.

Even then, she reacted—her hand started forming an arrow, but it gradually faded.

“What’s your name?”

“…I can’t say…”

Impressive. Resisting a question even in a trance?

In a trance state, someone’s mind is almost completely defenseless, becoming submissive as if following orders.

But occasionally, especially wary maidens can still refuse to answer.

No need to rush, though.

“Why can’t you say your name?”

“Elves… don’t trust humans.”

They don’t trust humans, huh?

If it’s a distrust rooted in her entire race rather than just her personally, it must run deep.

“So, you don’t trust any humans at all?”

“…No.”

“What about me, standing right here?”

“I don’t trust you.”

With her eyes open in a dazed state, the girl kept answering.

“That’s wrong.”

“Wrong…?”

“Decal is one of the people you trust most. Doubting him is unthinkable.”

“You’re… one of the people I trust most… doubting you… unthinkable…”

She repeated my words like a puppet.

“Got it?”

“Yes.”

“That’s why, if I dislike you, it’ll feel incredibly painful and unpleasant.”

“Painful and unpleasant…”

“So you don’t want me to dislike you.”

“Yes…”

“I don’t want him to dislike me.”

That keyword works wonders on any w0man. It’s especially devastating on cool-headed ones.

For a girl who’s built up so many walls that even basic communication is tough, you don’t even need to say “obey my commands” and risk defiance—it’ll still create an entertaining situation.

Of course, making them obey is fun in its own right.

Anyway, the first suggestion was complete.

Clap.

I clapped my hands to wake her up.

The elf girl immediately stepped back and aimed an invisible bow at me.

“What did you do to my b0dy?”

“Don’t do that. We haven’t known each other long, but we trust each other, right?”

“Huh?”

The girl’s expression faltered slightly as she held the bow.

Confusion stirred in her emotions, and she seemed flustered.

“If I did something wrong, I’ll apologize.”

I approached her. Slowly.

“N-no… Decal…”

Dazed, she spoke as if she couldn’t believe her own feelings.

“You didn’t do anything wrong.”

“Good to hear. I’d like to call you by your name—can you tell me what it is?”

“Suddenly?”

“Is that a no?”

The elf girl flinched and trembled.

It was the first time I’d seen fear in her.

“It’s fine if it’s Decal… I’m Isti.”

“Nice.”

“…”

While we talked, the bow Isti was holding had fully dematerialized and vanished.

“Should we head to a lodging before it gets too late?”

“I was planning to leave tonight…”

“Don’t want to?”

“Uh, um…”

Isti’s expressionless facade crumbled.

Just seeing her scrunch her pretty brow showed how much my few words had rippled through her mind.

“Okay. I’ll rest for a day and then go.”

“Let’s go.”

I took Isti’s hand and started walking.

She briefly moved to pull away but couldn’t bring herself to fully do it, following me in a flustered state.

Please Read, it’s Important:

Someone commented on one of the chapters about why I am censoring words on an er0-novel. Firstly, I don’t remove any scenes or entire words, I just use alternative words or replace a letter in a word, which should be easy to understand if you’ve read enough er0-novels. Many translators/authors use it, I have read a lot of it and have become accustomed to it.

Secondly, as you have noticed, there are no a-d-s on this site, but since I am using my time and energy to translate the novel, and have to pay for the site, I have to earn somehow. There are two options available for me on that matter: Patreon Membership: where I offer advance chapters, and BuymeaCoffee: sponsored chapters.

Patreon requires me to sensor certain words. It is stable, and gives me the option to earn even after I have finished translating the novel. On the other hand, sponsors on BuymeaCoffee is quite unstable. If I post uncensored chapters only on the Goblinslate site I would need a sponsor for every chapter I post, which for now, seems unlikely. And the earning potential is limited. Also, in order to produce 2 versions of the same chapter, I will need to put more time and effort into it, which I could be using to translate another chapter. So, that’s my thoughts on the matter.

If you want to express you opinion. Feel free to comment below. I will appreciate it.
