The mana beams unleashed by Empress struck the two demons directly. Perhaps due to the staff she wielded now, the beam was larger and more powerful than before, filling his entire field of vision.

Kwa-Gaga-Gaga-!

As the beam of light crashed into the cave, a cloud of dust rose, obscuring visibility.

Ian quickly signaled to Anna and Theresia. By now, they could understand his intentions just by looking into his eyes. Without hesitation, the two swiftly grabbed Ian and Lancia, retreating from the cave.

The moment they escaped, Empress didn’t miss a beat and unleashed another blast of mana.

Woo woo woo…

“…Did we get them?”

“Ah—”

Lancia’s murmured question barely left her lips before the two resurrected demons clawed their way out of the ground.

As the knights and mages watching from a distance groaned in fear, Lancia quickly issued an order.

“Everyone, take the mages and retreat to the territory—now!”

“—Yes, sir!”

The knights, escorting the mages, mounted their horses and galloped toward the territory. But even as they fled, the two demons paid them no mind, their gazes locked onto Ian and his summons with an eerie sense of ease.

“Nyahahaha, that was a fun attack.”

[Noisy. It wasn’t fun at all.]

“Why not? I’d love to feel that again.”

While the two demons bickered, Ian glanced at Lancia, signaling her to summon her spirit.

Recognizing Ian’s intent, Lancia wasted no time.

“…Tempest.”

A powerful gust surged forth as Tempest, the Great Spirit of the Wind and the King of Spirits, materialized. At the same time, a violent storm of wind blades erupted, slashing toward the two demons.

“—Die.”

A full-powered attack from Tempest was nearly unstoppable. Even high-level demons wouldn’t remain unscathed if caught off guard!

However, the shadow demon, seeing the incoming storm, expanded its body like a billowing cloak, swallowing the attack whole.

The wind dissipated.

“Nyahahaha! Magic doesn’t work on me!”

“Oh? That’s unfortunate.”

Anna and Theresia didn’t hesitate. The demon had unintentionally revealed their weakness—if magic was ineffective, then they would simply cut them down.

Fortunately, compared to the landworm they had recently fought, these demons were much smaller. Their size wasn’t much different from that of a human, making them manageable opponents for Theresia and Anna.

Theresia, closing the distance with the shadow demon, channeled the lingering power of Tempest’s storm into her blade and swung.

Her strike was fast, precise, and devastatingly powerful.

“Nyaan—.”

Yet, just before the blade connected, a feline paw shot out from within the shadow demon’s body, effortlessly deflecting her sword.

Theresia’s eyes widened in shock.

“…What was that?”

“Nyang Martial Art.”

Before she could react, the cat-faced demon struck, its fists slamming into her face with bone-crushing force. Theresia was sent flying, her face battered from the impact.

“Nyaha, physical attacks are my specialty, and magic attacks are my partner’s. Together, we’re an invincible duo!”

[I told you to be quiet.]

“Don’t be so cold.”

Watching the cat demon grin smugly, Ian’s mind raced for a solution.

What the hell? One is immune to magic, and the other is immune to physical attacks?

What kind of ridiculous combination was this? If this were a game, the developers’ families would have been cursed by every player.

“Senior…Lancia, can I call you that?”

“Just call me Lancia. This is an emergency.”

“Alright, then, Lancia—we need to form a duo.”

The cat-headed demon could only be harmed by magic, while the shadow demon could only be cut down with a blade.

That meant their matchups were clear.

“Theresia—go help the idiot who got taken down in one hit.”

“…And what will you do?”

“I’ll handle the cat-faced b*stard.”

“Idiot?”

“The cat head.”

With that, Ian turned his gaze to Theresia, who was still lying on the ground, pretending to be injured.

“Get up, Theresia.”

“Ugh… Master, your summon is hurt. Aren’t you worried?”

“Worried?”

Ian scoffed. Was she joking? Who would be worried about her? She had already healed herself.

“Enough nonsense. Your opponent is that shadow demon over there.”

“…I want revenge.”

“If you want to die here, be my guest.”

Theresia alone could never defeat the cat demon. It wasn’t impossible, but there was no reason to take the harder route when the easier one was right in front of them.

“Nyahahaha, looks like we’re idiots now.”

[No one is as idiotic as you.]

The two demons, having heard everything, chuckled as they slowly closed in.

After revealing all their plans in front of the enemy, who would be foolish enough to follow orders?

Even a newborn could grasp such common sense.

And there was no way Cadet Ian didn’t know that.

“Idiots.”

A broad smile spread across Ian’s face as he watched the demons run in the opposite direction of what he had just told them.

After all, who would willingly move according to the enemy’s words?

But did they realize that even choosing the opposite course of action was still within Ian’s expectations?

“They fell for it.”

“Yeah.”

The two demons, showing no signs of hesitation, attempted to crawl away and drop their bodies. But Ian’s summons didn’t miss the opening.

“Domain Declaration.”

“I hope you’re ready.”

With the activation of their Origin Arts, a battlefield formed, instantly trapping the enemy.

“Welcome to your final battleground.”

“A temple built just for you.”

The demons were now confined within the field, facing a relentless assault.

Within the realm created by their Origin Arts, summoned creatures exhibited power nearly one rank higher.

A 3-star summon possessed the strength of a 4-star.

A 4-star summon wielded power comparable to a 5-star.

Faced with two summons that had suddenly become overwhelmingly stronger, the demons were caught off guard and mercilessly beaten down.

“D*mn it!”

[Urgh-!]

They wanted to assist each other but couldn’t. The moment the cat demon attempted to escape the battlefield, a bolt of lightning crashed down from the sky, blocking its path.

As soon as its movements stalled, even for a split second, Anna rushed in with her shield.

“You’re not going anywhere.”

Though the cat demon’s attacks flowed effortlessly, they couldn’t penetrate her defense.

Its specialty was counterattacks, excelling at turning aggression back on its enemies, but it lacked the ability to break through a purely defensive stance.

The Shadow Demon faced a similar predicament. Having invested all its abilities into defensive magic, it had no means to block the sword strikes from opponents of the same level.

As Ian watched the demons being hunted down one-sidedly, he glanced around for a place to sit.

“Whew, looks like we’re done here. Lancia?”

“…What is this?”

“What? First time seeing something like this?”

“Of course. High-ranking demons should be on par with 4-star summons.”

These demons were supposed to be formidable enough to slaughter an entire unit of 3-star summons, depending on compatibility.

Yet now, they were being utterly overwhelmed—by just two summoned creatures.

Lancia observed the scene in astonishment, her admiration for Ian growing.

“To handle something like this… It must be thanks to your abilities.”

“Don’t fall for me.”

“…Too late for that.”

“…What?”

Ian, who had casually tossed out a childish joke, was caught off guard by Lancia’s serious expression.

Women had confessed to him so few times that he could even count them on one hand.

This was uncharted territory for him. He hadn’t expected this turn of events.

“…I was joking.”

“A joke like that could break a lot of hearts.”

“No, I mean—”

He stopped himself. There was no way he’d admit how many hearts he had already broken.

As Ian hesitated, Lancia smirked knowingly.

“With someone like you, it’s no surprise you’d have a few admirers.”

“A few admirers…?”

“But I’d prefer to be the only one.”

“No, wait—”

Before Ian could respond, the battle reached its conclusion.

After an intense struggle, Theresia’s sword finally severed the Shadow Demon’s head.

“It’s over!”

The cat demon, already struggling against two enemies, had no chance when it suddenly faced four summons. In an instant, its head was sliced clean off.

Theresia, carrying the severed heads of both demons, approached Ian with a proud posture, like a general returning victorious.

“Here, Master.”

“Well done.”

Ian glanced at the demon heads at his feet and kicked one over, ensuring it wasn’t still alive.

Demons were cunning creatures, capable of using even their own deaths to take down humans.

Luckily, this time, neither of the severed heads moved.

“Lancia! Lancia!!”

From a distance, the duke charged forward on horseback, his weapon raised high.

Hearing his frantic cry, Ian thought once again—reinforcements tended to arrive when it was all over.
