Chapter 129: Inside

If you tell people that a building walks, they’ll ask how—since, of course, buildings don’t have feet.

But this one does.

Invisible feet, created by the power of the Demon King.

“…Is that one of the Four Heavenly Kings?”

“Okay.”

Stella stared at the enormous structure, disbelief written all over her face.

Though he tried to appear calm, Ian was stunned as well.

At this point, it felt like nothing could surprise him anymore—but this still did.

In the game, it hadn’t looked that big. It had only appeared in SD character form.

But now that it was real?

‘‘How is it that huge?’’

It was no joke.

It felt as if someone had uprooted the 63 Building and made it fly. Ian couldn’t help but question the sanity of the devs who created something that massive just to have it defeated.

Luckily, they didn’t have to destroy the tower.

In a world without so much as a TNT explosive, taking it down would’ve taken a year. But things had played out differently.

“First, we have to go inside.”

“We’re going in…?”

“If we can reach the top floor…we can activate the crystal ball inside. That’ll trigger the tower’s self-destruction.”

Of course, it wasn’t going to be easy.

The tower, powered by the Demon King, was equipped with countless magical cannons that shot down anything that approached.

Inside, it was filled with traps and monsters, and the structure itself could shift and compress to crush intruders.

Even with just a few lines of dialogue and some illustrations, getting to the top floor was no small feat.

But Ian had no choice.

“Let’s go.”

He led the party toward the Heavenly Steed Tower.

***

They arrived beneath the immense structure—floating in the sky, galloping forward on invisible legs, defying gravity.

And immediately, they hit a problem.

“…This is…”

“How are we supposed to get up there?”

The party stood beneath the moving tower. Its underside, now fully visible, had strange runes etched across its surface.

None of them were mages, so Ian summoned Empress to decipher the text.

“Call the special code. And enter?”

When she read it aloud, the girls immediately turned their eyes to Ian. Just like always, they expected him to figure it out.

Disappointing them was the last thing Ian wanted—but unfortunately, he didn’t know the code required to enter the Heavenly Steed Tower.

”Seriously, who would remember that…’’

He vaguely remembered how to find the code. In the game, you weren’t supposed to tackle this fortress first.

Like most mobile games, this one followed a linear story. You couldn’t just rush straight to the boss like in an open-world game.

The developers had even disabled the skip function, clearly wanting players to engage with the story. So even if Ian couldn’t recall exact lines, he remembered the sequence of events.

‘A demon who was banished from the Demon King’s Castle… he knew the password to enter here.’

That was the arc—find the demon, get the code, and infiltrate the Demon Tower.

Of course, Ian hadn’t memorized the password. He barely remembered a single line of dialogue.

And now, with the story completely off-track, he didn’t even know where to start looking for that demon.

“It can’t be helped…”

He went with the next best option: forget the code and break in.

Once inside, he could figure out the rest.

There was no time to hesitate.

As soon as Empress was summoned, Ian asked her to bore a hole through the underside of the tower.

“Huh? Can I really…?”

Despite her uncertainty, Empress began chanting.

Moments later, a meteor burst up from the ground, flying against gravity and smashing into the bottom of the tower.

The impact lit up the sky with blinding sparks. A deafening roar echoed across the plains.

[Woooom…]

The Heavenly Steed Tower shuddered under the blow, then—’wooong!’—started descending toward the party.

The tower, which shouldn’t even be flying, now looked like it was collapsing right on top of them.

“Mass Teleport!”

Without missing a beat, Empress completed the chant, and in an instant, she teleported Ian and the party hundreds of meters away to safety.

Even after retreating a great distance, the Heavenly Steed Tower surged forward, massive and unstoppable.

As the colossal structure descended, it generated an intense pressure—gusts of wind blasted through the area with terrifying force.

Ian and his party, flung away by the impact, each summoned their summons to shield themselves.

[Woooom…]

[Woooom…]

Ian glanced at the tower, which continued to emit frantic beeping sounds. He let out a soft sigh.

“Whew… I thought this would be simple.”

He had tried to follow the expected strategy, but everything had gone off course.

“Haha… There’s no such thing as a ‘correct’ path in a reality like this.”

In the end, the right path is simply the one you walk.

With that mindset, Ian summoned all of his summons and stood to face the Heavenly Steed Tower head-on.

“If a soulless hunk of stone acts up, we just need to tear it down.”

He turned to look at the girls.

They responded immediately, calling forth all their summons and preparing for a full-on assault against the towering construct.

Whoosh—!

At the same time, the Tower began charging its own counterattack. Hundreds of mana cannons installed throughout the structure activated simultaneously, glowing ominously as they charged.

Before anyone could react, a barrage of blinding beams shot forth like a storm of light.

***

What would it feel like if a b0mber dropped an airstrike overhead?

Ian shook his head. Outside of a nuclear b0mb, he doubted anything in the 21st century could match this destructive power.

After charging, the barrels released concentrated magical energy. The mana cannons fired at light speed, exploding into brilliant flashes upon impact—turning their targets to ash.

Hundreds of these light bursts painted the battlefield pure white. The first cannon fired, followed by the next, and as the last one finished, the first had already reloaded. A relentless, seamless cycle.

“Summoner! What now?! We won’t last much longer!”

Empress, struggling under the one-sided assault, shouted over her shoulder at Ian.

Ian turned to look at Noah, Stella, and Syrah.

The four of them had conquered the Infinite Dungeon together. By now, they could communicate without words.

With just a brief exchange of glances, they devised the most effective tactic.

“Ifrit.”

“Blue Bird… please.”

Two incarnations of fire burst forth, and one of them was overflowing with power—far beyond what they had seen before.

This was the power from its prime, once lost to the constraints of the system. Or perhaps… even greater than that.

Either way, it was manageable—it was ‘her’ original strength.

Bright crimson wings unfurled from Ian’s back. Though strange at first glance, they suited the moment—like the wings of an archangel descending to incinerate all before them.

Embodying that image, Phoenix flared her wings and soared skyward.

“Ugh—!”

Soaring high above, Phoenix turned her back to the sun and charged the Heavenly Steed Tower, her flames bursting forth like a machine gun’s barrage.

Even with such intense attacks, the Tower couldn’t ignore her.

[Remove. Remove.]

It responded with the hollow commands of a rudimentary AI. The lack of sentience was almost laughable.

Ian chuckled, then turned to Empress.

“Teleport—can we jump inside?”

“Impossible. I’m wrapped in magical interference…”

“Then what about piercing through?”

“That might work… We won’t know unless we try.”

That was good enough.

Ian gave the signal, and the group teleported near the Heavenly Steed Tower. Thanks to Phoenix’s relentless assault, the Tower hadn’t detected their approach.

As they closed in, Empress raised a protective barrier around them. Then a massive Colossus grabbed the shield-wrapped group, took a stance—like a pitcher winding up—and hurled them straight at the Tower.

Though the shield protected them, the experience was… less than pleasant.

Being thrown like a projectile wasn’t something anyone wanted to repeat.

“Ugh… I think I’m gonna vomit…”

“Me too…”

“Ugh… Whoo… Whoo…”

As the girls groaned, recovering from the impact, Ian realized they had made it inside the Tower.

Normally, you’d have to climb floor by floor, fighting through traps and monsters to reach the core at the top.

It was slow. Tedious. Predictable.

‘But this isn’t a game.’

This was real. And towers were buildings. Destroy the foundation, and the whole thing falls. Unlike in games, there ‘was’ another option.

“Anna. Theresia.”

At Ian’s command, two knights materialized.

No words were needed.

Without hesitation, they drew their weapons and struck the Tower with full force.
