Chapter 66: Don’t Insult My Character

As Zhang Yu, Fatty, and I were about to reach the classroom door, a thought suddenly struck me.

Damn it!

Wasn’t Sister Qian having dinner with her dad?

“Uh, I just remembered something.” Seeing me stop, Zhang Yu and Fatty also halted, curious to hear what I had to say.

Fatty stayed silent, but Zhang Yu, being more direct, asked, “Spit it out!”

“The tigress went out, so she probably won’t be back anytime soon.”

I referred to Sister Qian as “tigress” in front of Zhang Yu and Fatty. If they found out about my relationship with Sister Qian, I’d have a lot of explaining to do.

“Damn! Why didn’t you say that earlier?” Zhang Yu cursed between heavy breaths.

Feeling guilty, I kept quiet, but as we reached the classroom door, the three of us started pushing each other to go in first.

Zhang Yu nudged me, saying, “You go in first. Didn’t you say the tigress isn’t here?”

“I need to tie my shoelaces first.” I squatted down, leisurely untying and retying my shoelaces.

Zhang Yu cursed again, then looked at Fatty and said, “Fatty, you go!”

“I don’t dare!” Fatty shook his head honestly.

“You’re not a real man!” Zhang Yu scolded, but Fatty retorted, “If you’re such a man, why don’t you go in yourself?”

“Damn!” Fatty’s words left Zhang Yu speechless.

“Fine, I’ll go!” I couldn’t stand it any longer. I stopped pretending to tie my shoes and stood up to push the door open.

The classroom, which had been filled with chatter, fell silent as soon as I opened the door.

“See, I told you the tigress wasn’t here!” Finally, I could relax. Although I knew Sister Qian was out having dinner with Zhao Tianfang, there was no telling if they might finish quickly and return. After all, one’s the mayor and the other’s a teacher; their schedules are always tight.

The few who had been chatting shushed me, clearly startled by my entrance.

Zhang Yu and Fatty, reassured by my words, slowly walked in.

“Xia Tian, Zhang Yu, Hao Zhiwei, I’m going to report your tardiness to the teacher!” Suddenly, Zhao Kai stood up and pointed at the three of us.

“Shut up, you idiot!” Zhang Yu snapped, visibly irritated.

Zhao Kai’s face darkened. “As class monitor, it’s my duty to inform the teacher. Also, you’ve just insulted a class officer, adding to your offense!”

“Are you looking for trouble?” Zhang Yu began walking toward Zhao Kai, but Fatty and I quickly held him back.

“Just a few more days; let it go,” I said to Zhang Yu. Although I found Zhao Kai annoying too, I didn’t think he was worth the trouble. After all, we lived in different worlds.

“There’s nothing to discuss with scum like you,” Zhao Kai said, then sat back down.

This time, I got angry too. But unlike Zhang Yu, I knew that not every problem had to be solved with violence.

Feigning surprise, I asked Zhao Kai, “Class monitor, what did you just say? I didn’t quite catch that.”

“I said you guys are the scum of the school!” Zhao Kai replied with a firm, unyielding tone.

Zhang Yu seemed to catch on to what I was doing and suddenly put on a surprised expression as well. “Damn! Our class monitor sure is bold, insulting a city-level model student in front of the whole class!” Zhang Yu pretended to recall something and added, “Oh, and this ‘scum’ also has a city-level commendation for bravery. What a true scumbag!”

“You!” Zhao Kai was so furious he couldn’t find words, and Zhang Yu and I exchanged glances, laughing together.

“I can’t believe someone as shameless as you could earn so many honors!” Zhao Kai retorted, then sat down.

Zhao Kai had switched seats and was now sitting between Fatty and Zhang Yu. Since he had already offended Zhang Yu, his days were going to be rough.

“Why are you so late, deskmate?” Sun Jing put down the exercise she was working on and smiled at me.

Scratching my head, I replied sheepishly, “Overslept.”

“Don’t mind Zhao Kai. He’s just jealous of you.” Sun Jing glanced at Zhao Kai and then said to me.

I smiled, “I’m not bothered; I’m pretty generous.”

“By the way, you’re impressive, earning so many honors.” Sun Jing smiled at me.

“Just lucky, I guess!” Though I said that, I was feeling quite pleased inside.

Sun Jing looked at me and teased, “Look at how pleased you are!” We chatted for a while longer before she urged me to get back to the exercises.

As I was working on them, I suddenly heard a commotion. Turning around, I saw that Zhao Kai, who had been sitting between Zhang Yu and Fatty, was gone. Then, Zhao Kai got up from the floor, pointing at Zhang Yu in anger, “You…”

Zhang Yu spread his hands innocently, “Me? What did I do?”

“Why did you move my chair away?” Zhao Kai was furious, not even bothering to straighten his crooked glasses.

Zhang Yu immediately stood up and said to Zhao Kai, “You can insult my body, but don’t you dare insult my character!”

If I didn’t understand the situation now, I’d truly be an idiot. Clearly, Zhang Yu had taken Zhao Kai’s earlier behavior to heart. Like me, he wasn’t the type to easily forgive outsiders.

So, when Zhao Kai stood up, Zhang Yu took the opportunity to move his chair away, causing him to fall flat on his face.

But I have to admit, Zhang Yu’s line just now was pretty clever, though I doubted if that guy even had any character to insult.

“It wasn’t you? Then it must have been that damn Fatty!” Zhao Kai, unable to match Zhang Yu’s presence, shifted his anger to Fatty.

“Huh?” Fatty blinked in confusion, “You’re blaming me? Man, I was just napping, not bothering anyone. If you hadn’t made such a racket, I’d probably be chatting with the daughters of the King of the Underworld by now.”

Fatty’s words sent the entire class into laughter, as Zhao Kai’s personality wasn’t well-liked by anyone, whether they were good students or not.

When you constantly talk down to people, nobody’s going to like you.

“You all!” Zhao Kai pointed at Zhang Yu and Fatty, then looked around at the laughing classmates, nearly in tears.

“What’s so funny? Care to share the joke with the teacher?” Suddenly, an exceptionally gentle voice came from the door. As the voice trailed off, Sister Qian walked in.

The classroom immediately fell silent; no one dared to speak.

Seeing Sister Qian, Zhao Kai quickly tried to speak, “Teacher…”

“Whatever it is, we’ll talk later!” Sister Qian cut him off before he could finish.

Then, she looked at me and said, “Xia Tian, come outside with me.” After saying that, she turned and walked out.

What’s this about? Well, Sister Qian wouldn’t harm me, so I might as well follow her out.

“Sister Qian, what’s up?” I thought Sister Qian just wanted to have a quick word, but she led me straight to the office without saying a thing. Could she be trying to…?

Yeah, right! Who would believe that?

When we reached the office, Sister Qian opened the door and smiled at me, “Take a look at who’s here.”

Puzzled, I walked into the office, only to see a familiar figure groaning in front of me. Stuttering, I said, “Aunt… Auntie…?”
