Chapter 157: This Is What You Owe Me

I went to the hospital with Lu Sen and, along the way, picked up some medicine. I let Hao Shuai and Diao Sinan stay with Lu Sen while I returned to the apartment.

When I opened the door, the living room was empty—everyone must be with Xu Xin. I went upstairs to Xu Xin’s room and hesitated at the door.

We had agreed that I’d get the medicine, yet I only just got back. If Sister Lin hadn’t gone out to buy medicine, who knows what treatment I’d face.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

The door was locked, so I had to knock. It wasn’t long before someone opened it.

It was Qin Mengdie who opened the door. She glanced at me without a word, then went back into the room and sat by Xu Xin’s bed. Tang Shuyao was also seated by the bed, though that girl was asleep.

“I brought the medicine…” I said awkwardly as I handed it to Qin Mengdie.

Without even looking at it, Qin Mengdie replied, “Just put it on the cabinet; Sister Mengxin has already bought some medicine…”

“I had an urgent matter…” I began to explain, but Qin Mengdie coolly said, “No matter what your reason is, failing to keep your promise is not what a proper man should do.”

“Tang Shuyao and I watched over her all afternoon. After taking the medicine, her condition has nearly stabilized. The rest is up to you,” Qin Mengdie said as she patted the sleeping Tang Shuyao.

“Hmm?” Tang Shuyao rubbed her eyes sleepily and said, “Is it dawn already?”

“Xia Tian is back now. Leave the rest to her; let’s go back,” Qin Mengdie said to Tang Shuyao.

“You mean that narcissist is back?” At those words, Tang Shuyao instantly perked up. Standing up and upon seeing me, she pointed and said, “Do you know that Sister Mengxin even caught a cold while buying medicine for Xu Xin? You said you’d get the medicine—how come, in the end, Sister Mengxin had to buy it!”

I had nothing to say; it was my fault, and even Sister Lin ended up getting sick…

“Where is Sister Lin now?” I asked Tang Shuyao as I looked at her.

Tang Shuyao sighed and said in an annoyed tone, “Sister Mengxin took some medicine and fell asleep; Sister Sister Ziyan and Mei’er are there taking care of her.”

“I’m sorry…” I said sincerely, taking a deep breath.

Tang Shuyao frowned. “What’s the use of being sorry now? From now on, all the meals are on you as repayment to us!”

“No problem!” I said with a smile, thinking that Tang Shuyao had probably forgiven me.

Qin Mengdie and Tang Shuyao then left Xu Xin’s room together.

When we reached the door, Qin Mengdie turned around and said, “She should be fine, but when she wakes up later she’ll need to drink plenty of hot water. You’d better prepare for that—remember, don’t let her drink cold water.”

“Got it. You and Shuyao go back first,” I told Qin Mengdie.

This young lady from the Qin family raised many questions for me. I had seen the eldest daughter of the Qin family before—she wasn’t very attractive. This Qin Mengdie probably isn’t the daughter of the head of the Qin family; I suspect she might be Qin Shousheng’s daughter, otherwise she wouldn’t have been so nervous when I mentioned that Qin Mengdie had been attacked.

It would be nice if the daughter of the Qin family head had even half of Qin Mengdie’s qualities.

Sighing, I sat by Xu Xin’s bed.

Xu Xin—I met her for the first time, and rescuing her was just an impulsive act. After all, I couldn’t bear to see a beauty being humiliated by a scumbag like Zhou Feng.

Before, I had always avoided Xu Xin. Her several “jokes” had become unbearable, and I dared not get close to her. I never expected fate to intervene— not only did we both get admitted to the same school, but we even ended up living together.

To be honest, aside from being a bit tall, I don’t really have any virtues. I couldn’t understand why Xu Xin and Wang Ziyan had a good impression of me.

Could it be because I carry the bloodline of the fox clan in my body?

I just couldn’t figure it out. If it were due to fox immortal blood, then why did Sister Lin, Tang Shuyao, and Qin Mengdie not feel the same about me?

Before I met Mei’er, I hardly ever interacted with girls. But after meeting her, it seemed that my romantic luck had begun to flourish.

In the hospital there was the pure nurse Mei Xue, Xu Xin—the school beauty from Third High School, Sun Jing, the sweet classmate like the girl next door, Wang Ziyan, the slightly haughty policewoman, and now Qin Mengdie and Tang Shuyao.

It seemed that my fate had quietly changed under the influence of Mei’er.

“Water…” Suddenly, a hoarse voice came over.

Seeing that Xu Xin had woken up, I quickly handed her the hot water I’d prepared, but then I paused halfway.

Xu Xin had just woken up; her body must have been weak. It was better if I fed her instead.

“Come, lean on me!” I placed the blanket on the bedside table, helped Xu Xin sit up, and let her lean against my chest. I then brought the water over to her lips.

After taking a few sips, Xu Xin shook her head to signal that she was fine.

I put down the cup and asked, “How do you feel now?”

“Being able to lie in your arms makes me feel so much better…” Xu Xin managed a weak smile, her voice still hoarse—she clearly hadn’t fully recovered yet.

“You just like to joke around with me!” I said with a smile.

Xu Xin looked at me seriously and replied, “Do you still think I’m just joking with you even now?”

“It’s late; you’re sick, so you should rest early!” I quickly changed the subject.

Since Xu Xin’s illness wasn’t completely over, she said nothing more, closed her eyes, and fell asleep.

After covering her with the blanket and hearing that her breathing had steadied—confirming she was indeed asleep—I grasped her hand and transmitted some True Qi into her body.

It wasn’t much, but by tomorrow she should recover…

With a sigh of relief, I left Xu Xin’s room, planning to check on Sister Lin.

I hadn’t expected that although Sister Lin was usually quite tough, her body wouldn’t be able to handle it.

Sister Lin’s door wasn’t locked, so I simply pushed it open and entered.

I saw Mei’er, using spiritual energy just as I had earlier, helping to treat Sister Lin’s illness, while nearby, Wang Ziyan was leaning on a chair, asleep.

Hearing someone come in, Mei’er quickly withdrew her hand. But when she saw it was Xia Tian, she exhaled in relief and whispered, “So it’s Xia Tian—Mei’er was scared to death!”

“How is Sister Lin doing?” I asked Mei’er as I looked at her.

Mei’er glanced at Sister Lin and then said, “Sister Mengxin should be fine in a little while; her fever isn’t severe.”

“That’s good…” I sighed in relief. Thankfully, both Mei’er and I had some True Qi, or else I really wouldn’t know how to repay Sister Lin.

“Let’s get out! Let Sister Lin have a good rest,” I said to Mei’er.

Mei’er shook her head. “You should first call your fiancée and have her go back; Mei’er still wants to accompany Sister Mengxin for a while.”

Fiancée again—what a pain! I haven’t even admitted to that, you know!

“Alright!” I sighed helplessly, then called over Wang Ziyan, and together we left her room.

“Thank you,” I said to Wang Ziyan.

Wang Ziyan was momentarily stunned, then said, “Thank what? Thank what?”

“Oh, it’s nothing…” I replied with a smile, thanking her for taking care of Sister Lin while she was sick, though there was really no need to explain.

“Mei’er is really something…” Wang Ziyan said with a hint of disappointment in her eyes, as if lamenting.

I smiled and said, “Of course—my taste is pretty good indeed.”

“If one day I turned out like Mei’er, would you accept me?” Wang Ziyan’s words left me momentarily speechless.

After a long silence, I finally said, “If a person changes for another, what they get in return isn’t love…” Sighing, I continued, “You’re a good person, but I just don’t like your temper. I’m sure you’ll eventually…”

Before I could finish, Wang Ziyan laughed and said, “Hearing you say that is enough for me.”

I let out a dry laugh, not knowing what to say, when suddenly Wang Ziyan tiptoed up and k!ssed me on the mouth, then said, “This is what you owe me; now we’re even…” With that, she turned and left, leaving me standing there dumbfounded.

Uh…How did one kiss settle everything?

That beauty, please wait—I still owe you a lot!
