Chapter 101: Can We Not Hit the Face?

“Are you kidding me!” I stared at the computer in disbelief. The score on the screen hit me with a shock that was no less intense than… certain other thrilling experiences.

Today was the day that college entrance exam results were released, so I took a half-day off from work with Long Qingyang to stay home and check my score.

However, I never expected to get such a result. I actually made it close to the admission line for Shenghua University.

With my laid-back attitude, there’s no way I could score that high on my own. Qin Shousheng must have helped me out somehow.

Even though I copied a lot from Xu Xin, there were parts like the English essay and corrections that couldn’t be copied.

Lately, everything happening in my life feels unreal, like a dream. But this score truly does save my reputation.

I shouldn’t forget my benefactor. I owe everything to Mei’er. No, actually, I should thank the owner who sold me the The Legend of the Fox Demons. If not for that scam, I would never have met Mei’er.

“Xia Tian, I am done cutting the watermelon!” Mei’er called out from the kitchen.

I chuckled and replied, “I’m coming!”

Mei’er was becoming cuter by the day. Thanks to her mind-reading ability, she’d picked up on modern human life quite well. Since I started training recently, every time I came home, she would buy fruit to treat me.

Walking to the living room, I saw that Mei’er had already placed the sliced watermelon on the table. I took a bite—it was quite sweet.

“Here, let me feed you a piece!” I held out the watermelon, already bitten, to Mei’er’s mouth. She smiled sweetly and took a bite, and I felt like the watermelon couldn’t even compare to her smile.

Unable to resist, I wanted to lean in and k!ss her, but Mei’er stopped me. “Xia Tian, not now. You promised Mei’er you’d focus on training.”

“A little k!ss won’t kill me!” I pouted and leaned closer, but Mei’er suddenly moved, giving me a quick k!ss on the cheek. She smiled and said, “There, done!”

I froze, then asked, “Th-that’s it?”

With a mischievous look, Mei’er said, “Xia Tian, you promised only one k!ss.”

Ah, Mei’er was getting sharper day by day. Her words left me speechless, and I could only sit down quietly and eat my watermelon.

As I ate, the doorbell suddenly rang. Since Sister Lin left, no one had really visited my place. Now it was already ten at night, so I felt a bit puzzled by the sound.

“Coming!” I called out, heading to the door to open it.

But when I opened it, no one was there.

Cursing some prankster, I returned to the room.

Mei’er ate a slice of watermelon and then headed off to sleep in the bedroom, while I, being a gentleman, stayed in the living room.

Turning off the lights, I began training. The Nine Revolutions of Heaven and Earth didn’t require a specific posture, so I could train lying down.

The True Qi in my body was enough to break through to the third level, but I couldn’t clear my Ren and Du meridians. Each time I felt close, it was like I was just a tiny bit short.

Since Mei’er didn’t understand human cultivation methods, I decided to try again tonight, thinking maybe my approach was off.

The True Qi circulating in my twelve main meridians seemed like a thick mist, a sign of Qi condensing into liquid form. If I could reach the third level, this True Qi would fully transform into liquid.

After circulating my True Qi a few rounds in the main meridians, I prepared to forcefully clear the Ren and Du meridians.

The resilience of the Ren and Du meridians was strong, similar to my previous attempts. I felt close, like I just needed a bit more True Qi. Yet, even when I pushed with everything I had, I was still a hair’s breadth away. I even thought that doubling my True Qi wouldn’t make a difference.

I considered asking Long Qingyang about it, but I hesitated. Cultivation might raise suspicions, and I didn’t want to risk revealing Mei’er’s presence.

According to Nine Revolutions of Heaven and Earth, the Ren meridian controls blood and is the sea of Yin meridians, while the Du meridian controls Qi and is the sea of Yang meridians. This meant these two channels governed blood and Qi. Could it be that my recent surge in Qi made these meridians too resilient? Should I… relieve some of this energy to see if it helps?

Among the Eight Extraordinary Meridians, the Ren and Du meridians are the most basic. Only by clearing them could one unlock other channels.

Clearing the twelve main meridians had been easy enough, so why was it so hard with the Ren and Du?

Could it be, like in Jin Yong’s novels, that clearing these two meridians would make me unbeatable?

Just as I got lost in thought, a faint noise brought me back.

It was soft, but with my hearing, I caught it—a wire picking at the door lock. Was a thief trying to break in?

I kept up the act of sleeping, and soon, the door opened carefully.

“Are you sure there’s no adult here?” a small voice whispered.

“We checked this morning! So annoying!” a rougher voice replied.

Damn! These two were really here to rob me!

The sounds of rummaging filled the room. Suddenly, the smaller thief exclaimed, “Boss, there’s someone lying here!”

“Keep it down!” the big thief scolded, then sneered, “Just a kid. If he wakes up, we’ll just take what we want.”

“Yeah! We’ve got knives. What’s this little brat gonna do?” the smaller one laughed and kept rifling through my things.

The rummaging stopped, but they were still moving around. There wasn’t anything valuable in the house, so I let them carry on a bit longer.

“Boss, there’s a pretty girl in here!” the small thief called out in surprise.

“Shh…” The big thief’s voice turned lecherous. “She’s quite the beauty! She’d make a fine wife for our boss!”

They had crossed the line by targeting Mei’er. It seemed I needed to teach them a lesson.

I stood up quietly and moved behind them, patting the shorter one on the shoulder with a grin. “Pretty, isn’t she?”

“Yes, yes—” he started, realizing only then that I was awake. He whipped around, brandishing a knife at me. “Kid, so you’re awake! Keep quiet!”

The smaller thief, a fat man about my height, looked at me with a smirk, apparently unafraid.

I shook my head with a smile. “I’m already quiet.”

“Bah! You just won’t listen!” the big thief scoffed, ordering his lackey, “Beat him up!”

“Yes, boss!” The smaller thief tried to look fierce, but his chubby face made him look ridiculous.

Pretending to be scared, I asked, “Can we avoid the face?”

The big thief laughed loudly. “No way!”

They both lunged at me with their knives. With a quick side kick, I sent their weapons flying to the floor, leaving them speechless.

I slowly picked up one of the knives, snapped the blade in half before their eyes, and smirked, “Is this knife fake? Plastic?”

“No, no way!” The big thief looked at me, dumbfounded.

Not wasting any more time, I kicked them both to the ground, ready to teach them a lesson.

Then, as if in unison, they pleaded, “Can we avoid the face?”

I paused, mimicking the big thief’s laugh and brow-furrowed glare. “No way!”
