Chapter 11: The Killer Gradually Emerges

Li Feng shot a glare at Zuo Si, signaling him to behave.

Zuo Si shrank his neck, too scared to say anything further.

“Xiao Li, uncuff him and take him to the small meeting room to wait for me.”

“Got it, Captain Niu!”

Captain Niu left the room, and Li Feng took Zuo Si to a meeting room.

Zuo Si, with a bitter expression, said to Li Feng, “Officer Li, can’t I leave yet? I want to sleep.”

“Aren’t you the one who reported the case? The situation isn’t clear yet, how can you leave? If you’re tired, just lie down and take a nap here.”

Li Feng made two cups of instant noodles for Zuo Si.

After eating, Zuo Si directly lay down on the table and fell asleep.

He slept until noon, only waking up when someone nudged him.

Rubbing his sleepy eyes, Zuo Si saw that it was Li Feng who had woken him up.

Captain Niu had returned, and the table was covered with many documents that looked like they had been around for years.

Li Feng placed another surgical form in front of Zuo Si.

Zuo Si cautiously picked it up to look.

The name on this surgical form was also Meng Miaoxue, but aside from Lu Liangyuan, the lead surgeon, the other names were all different.

After comparing, Zuo Si found that Lu Liangyuan’s handwriting was exactly the same; it was signed by one person.

“If this surgical form you brought is genuine, then Meng Miaoxue’s death fifteen years ago was likely not a medical accident,” Captain Niu said as he took a sip of tea.

“There’s definitely something wrong with this. Although only one of these surgical forms is real, if the surgery was indeed fine, why would the hospital need to forge another one?”

“Sigh!” Captain Niu sighed, “I know that too, but so many years have passed. How can we investigate? What can we decide based on this one surgical form?”

“Is Lu Liangyuan still alive? We can start with him!” Zuo Si insisted, needing to clarify this case; otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to complete that mandatory task.

The penalty for failing the task was too severe for him to bear.

“We already investigated him back then; there were no issues…” Captain Niu said helplessly.

Back then, the investigation equipment and experience were far inferior to now, and some details were likely overlooked.

That was unavoidable.

“Do you have the information on those deceased nurses?” Zuo Si asked.

Captain Niu nodded and tossed a stack of documents to Zuo Si.

These materials were originally not meant for Zuo Si to see.

But so many years had passed, and Captain Niu had been troubled by these cases; as long as there was a glimmer of hope to bring the criminals to justice, he didn’t want to give up.

“There are a few bloody pictures at the back. If you can’t handle it psychologically, don’t look,” Captain Niu warned.

But his warning only piqued Zuo Si’s curiosity.

He flipped straight to the end to look at those photos.

These were pictures of female corpses; aside from one body that had no obvious external injuries, the other three had their mouths stuffed full of syringe needles…

Many needles protruded from their mouths, blood and flesh a gruesome sight, utterly disgusting and horrifying!

It was as if these women had chewed on the needles in their lifetimes.

Even though Zuo Si’s heart was strong enough, seeing this scene made his scalp tingle.

The intact corpse was Shen Xia, and her cause of death was a massive overdose of anesthetics.

As for the other three, they had all died from swallowing a large number of needles…

They all died in the same location, the first operating room, and even the positions were identical!

Zuo Si carefully reviewed the materials but found nothing useful.

After all, professionals in criminal investigation couldn’t find anything; it would be even harder for an amateur like him.

However, soon, when Zuo Si saw Meng Miaoxue’s information, he noticed something unusual.

The death dates of Shen Xia, Xu Qing, Xu Ying, and Fang Ruxin were a bit eerie.

Shen Xia’s death date was the seventh day after Meng Miaoxue’s death.

Xu Qing was on the twenty-first day.

Xu Ying was on the thirty-fifth day.

Fang Ruxin was on the forty-ninth day.

These were significant days for mourning after someone’s death.

Could it be that they were indeed killed by Meng Miaoxue?

The possibility was very high.

Meng Miaoxue, having died a tragic death for no reason, surely harbored resentment and had reasons to kill them.

But why did Meng Miaoxue choose these specific dates?

Zuo Si frowned, unable to make sense of it.

He carefully recalled every detail from his visit to You Ren Hospital.

Half an hour passed, and neither Captain Niu nor Li Feng disturbed him; they were reviewing the case files from back then.

“What if these dates were deliberately arranged? Just to confuse the investigation?!”

Zuo Si’s eyes suddenly widened as he remembered something crucial.

“What if Meng Miaoxue never killed anyone? What if Hero Ding wasn’t killed by her?”

“I think I’ve been misled from the start…”

If Meng Miaoxue was merely a victim all along, then the line of thought became clear.

In that case, all clues pointed to Lu Liangyuan.

Only he could control everything…

As the director, after causing Meng Miaoxue’s death, he had enough authority to threaten others not to speak of it.

Then, under the pretense of protecting Shen Xia and the others, he provided the police with a fake surgical form.

This way, the police wouldn’t connect Shen Xia and the others to their deaths.

After that, Lu Liangyuan killed Shen Xia, Xu Qing, Xu Ying, and Fang Ruxin to silence them!

Thus, the police wouldn’t know that Lu Liangyuan had performed surgery on those four women, nor would they link their deaths to him.

Zuo Si slapped his thigh and shared his thoughts with Captain Niu.

Li Feng looked shocked.

Captain Niu, however, remained calm, holding the surgical form Zuo Si brought and said, “I had already guessed your theory when I saw this surgical form.”

“Then hurry up and arrest him! Go catch Lu Liangyuan!”

“Nonsense!” Captain Niu suddenly became serious, “This is just your baseless speculation! Do you have any evidence?”

“Uh… no,” Zuo Si slumped in his chair like a deflated balloon.

So many years had passed; it was impossible to convict Lu Liangyuan based solely on a surgical form.

His eyes suddenly lit up as he recalled an important clue.

The operating room was much cleaner than the outside; someone must have been cleaning it regularly.

When police investigate, they prioritize protecting the crime scene and would never clean it.

So, it was very likely that someone frequently visited the operating room.

If Meng Miaoxue had never killed anyone, then Hero Ding’s death must have been caused by someone else.

Perhaps it was Lu Liangyuan!

Since it was impossible to convict him based on the case from fifteen years ago, then let’s use Hero Ding’s case to bring him to justice!

Zuo Si immediately shared his thoughts with Captain Niu.

Captain Niu nodded, not saying much.

Since Zuo Si could discover that the operating room was much cleaner than the outside, the police would surely notice it too.

Hero Ding’s case was being rapidly investigated, but the details of the case were classified.

It was absolutely impossible to disclose anything to Zuo Si.

Just then, Captain Niu’s phone rang; he immediately answered, and a smile gradually appeared on his face.
