Chapter 123: The Second Young Master of the Zhao Family

“Zhao Gao!” Hao Shuai gritted his teeth as he stared at the figure before him.

Zhao Gao? Why does this name sound so familiar? I must have heard it somewhere before. Oh, right! Isn’t that the name of the most infamous eunuch from the Qin Dynasty? This guy’s parents must have quite the peculiar taste to name him that. Aren’t they worried their son might actually end up a eunuch?

Zhao Gao smirked at Hao Shuai. “That’s right, it’s me. I’m the one who had someone beat up that coward. Do you have a problem with that?”

“You’re the one who beat up Lu Sen?” Although it was clear from Hao Shuai’s expression that Zhao Gao’s background was far from ordinary, Lu Sen couldn’t take that beating for nothing.

Zhao Gao glanced at me casually, barely acknowledging my presence.

Meanwhile, Zhou Hua sneered and said disdainfully, “Young Master Hao and Young Master Zhao are talking. Who do you think you are to butt in? Get lost!”

“How dare you talk to my boss like that!” Despite his bruised and swollen face, Lu Sen glared angrily at Zhou Hua.

Zhou Hua burst into laughter. “Look at you, beaten to a pulp, and still trying to act tough!”

“You attacked my second brother. I’ll have my dad deal with you!” Diao Sinan gritted his teeth, but his threat had no weight, only earning laughter from the other side.

“Whoever hit Lu Sen earlier, step forward now!” My voice was calm as I stared at the crowd.

I had thought that after entering university, there would be less fighting. After all, we were all adults, and Saint Hua was a prestigious school. Yet here we were.

The group merely laughed disdainfully, with Zhao Gao not even sparing me a glance. I spoke again, my voice cold: “I don’t like repeating myself. If no one steps forward, then all of you will get beaten.” With that, I began walking toward them.

To my surprise, Hao Shuai quickly stopped me, a look of urgency on his face. “Boss, let it go. Zhao Gao is the second son of the Zhao family head. We can’t afford to provoke him.”

“Kid, you’d better listen to Hao Shuai. Don’t mess with me, or you won’t even know how you died!” Zhao Gao sneered, his tone dripping with arrogance.

The Zhao family was ranked second among the Four Great Families of the capital, a testament to their power. While they couldn’t dominate the city entirely, they weren’t people you could easily cross.

But…was I an ordinary person?

“The Zhao family? What’s that? Never heard of it.” I grinned and strode forward.

“Boss, don’t do anything rash!” Hao Shuai tried to hold me back, but he wasn’t strong enough.

Lu Sen, standing nearby, quickly chimed in, “Boss, let it go. My dad told me about the Zhao family. We really can’t afford to mess with them!”

I turned to Lu Sen. “Since you call me your boss, that beating you took won’t be for nothing!”

Zhou Hua happened to be standing at the front. Without hesitation, I grabbed his collar and slapped him across the face.

The slap left Zhou Hua stunned. He turned to Zhao Gao, crying out, “Young Master Zhao, this guy hit me! You’ve got to do something!”

Smack!

Another slap landed on Zhou Hua’s face.

As a pampered rich kid, Zhou Hua wasn’t used to being hit. The second slap brought tears to his eyes.

Zhao Gao, standing not far away, was furious. Pointing at me, he said, “You dare hit my man right in front of me? You’re the first!”

I sneered and slapped Zhou Hua again. “I hit him again. What are you going to do about it?”

“You!” Zhao Gao was so angry he couldn’t speak, his whole body trembling. Someone who didn’t know better might think he was having a seizure.

I tossed Zhou Hua to the ground and grabbed another person.

Smack! Smack!

Two more slaps.

Zhao Gao could no longer maintain his composure. He barked at his entourage, “What are you standing around for? Get him!”

The group exchanged glances before charging at me.

I had taken down six trained soldiers before. These pampered rich kids were nothing to me. Within moments, I had them all on the ground.

Zhao Gao was completely panicked but quickly composed himself. “You’re insane! Tell me your name!”

“Do you think you’re qualified to ask my name?” I scoffed, stepping toward him with a smile.

“You…!” Zhao Gao’s chest heaved as he clenched his fists. “You’ll regret this!”

I stepped right up to him and asked with a grin, “Are you threatening me?”

“What do you want? I’m warning you—I’m the second young master of the Zhao family!” Zhao Gao swallowed nervously, trying to appear calm.

Before I could respond, a familiar voice interrupted. “Second Young Master Zhao, you’re so impressive!”

I turned to see the petite beauty from earlier, standing alongside the icy beauty.

Zhao Gao’s expression softened as he greeted them with a smile. “Shuyao, Mengdie, what brings you here?”

The petite beauty frowned. “If I didn’t come, my benefactor might’ve been scared to death by you!”

“Shuyao, are you saying this guy is your benefactor?” Zhao Gao asked, pointing at me in disbelief.

The petite beauty nodded, exasperated. “If not him, then who else?”

Zhao Gao’s face darkened, but he forced a smile. “So he’s a friend of Shuyao’s. Let’s forget this ever happened.”

Hearing this, I let out a sigh of relief. As much as I disliked Zhao Gao, I really didn’t want to hit the second young master of the Zhao family. Shuyao’s timely arrival had defused a dangerous situation.

Zhao Gao turned to the icy beauty. “Mengdie, would you have time to join me for lunch?”

“Sorry, unlike you, Second Young Master Zhao, I’m not so free,” she replied coolly.

For someone to talk to Zhao Gao like that, she had to be extraordinary. No wonder these two dared to openly defy the drill instructor earlier.

Zhao Gao’s face darkened, but he forced a smile. “If you’re busy, never mind.” He kicked Zhou Hua. “Get up! Stop pretending to be dead. Let’s go!”

“Y-Yes!” Zhou Hua scrambled to his feet, shooting me a venomous look before following Zhao Gao. The others I had beaten quickly picked themselves up and trailed after him.

Once they were gone, I turned to the petite beauty. “Thank you, Lady Hero, for saving me. May I ask your name?”

“You’re quite amusing. I’m Tang Shuyao,” she said with a smile, gesturing toward the icy beauty. “This is Qin Mengdie.”

Tang Shuyao looked at me and smiled again. “And you are?”

I paused for a moment, then smiled. “Xia Tian.”

To my surprise, Tang Shuyao covered her mouth and giggled. “Your name is so cute!”

Cute? How did my name end up being described as cute?!
