Chapter 136: If He Doesn’t Obey

The police chief remained silent, seemingly deep in thought.

The police had no authority over military matters. By labeling me as a soldier, Wang Haoming had effectively taken away any legitimate reason for the police chief to detain me.

However, it was clear that this entire situation had been orchestrated by Zhao Gao. The police chief was likely weighing the pros and cons of his involvement.

After a long pause, the police chief looked at Wang Haoming and said, “Since you claim he’s a member of the military, then please provide proof. If you have proof, I will naturally let him go.”

It seemed that the police chief was betting on Zhao Gao. Was the Zhao family, the second most powerful among the four great families, really that influential? Or was it just as Qin Shousheng had said—that the Zhao family was on the verge of surpassing the Xia family to become the leading force among the four great families?

“What? You don’t believe me?” Wang Haoming glared at the police chief.

I was just a student—I obviously had no proof. As expected, the older, the wiser.

Wang Haoming continued, “I, Wang Haoming, hold the rank of major general. I have no need to deceive you.”

“You… you’re Wang Haoming?!” The police chief wasn’t shocked by the rank, but rather by the name.

Did Wang Haoming also have some kind of powerful background? But the four great families in the capital were the Xia, Zhao, Qin, and Tang families. Could it be that a new force had emerged?

At that moment, a policeman hurried in and reported to the chief, “Sir, a call from Secretary Hao.”

The police chief hesitated for a moment before picking up the phone. He didn’t say a single word. After a long silence, he sighed, hung up the phone, and then looked at us. “You may leave…”

“No proof needed?” I asked with a grin.

The police chief shook his head. “No need…”

“Stop crying. What’s there to cry about?” I looked helplessly at Wang Ziyan, who was clinging to my chest. What was up with this girl today?

Wang Ziyan lifted her head, wiped away her tears, and held onto my arm as we walked out.

“Zhao Shao, the necklace you gave me is so beautiful.” Just as we exited the interrogation room, a coquettish voice rang out.

I looked up and saw Zhao Gao and that girl.

I walked up to the girl, looked at her indifferently, and said, “Congratulations on finding the relic your father left you before he died. Take good care of it and don’t lose it again.” Then, I snorted coldly and turned to Zhao Gao. “This is the first time I’ve seen such a young godfather. But your daughter is really unfilial—she declared you dead when you’re standing right here! Does she have the power of prophecy?”

Zhao Gao looked at me in shock. “How is it possible that you walked out of there?!” He then shouted, “Where are the officers from earlier? Come out here at once!”

The police chief stepped forward from behind me and said apologetically, “Young Master Zhao, I’m sorry, but he’s a member of the military. We have no right to detain him.”

“He’s in the military? Are you joking?!” Zhao Gao snapped in frustration.

At that moment, Wang Haoming walked up to Zhao Gao, gave him a once-over, and said, “So, you’re Zhao Chen’s younger brother?”

“You know my brother…” Zhao Gao was taken aback, but before he could finish his sentence, Wang Haoming cut him off. “Out of respect for your brother, I won’t deal with you this time. But next time, you’d better not mess with my brother-in-law.” With that, he turned and left.

“You should go find your brother first.” I sent Wang Ziyan off, then walked up to Zhao Gao, backing him against the wall. Without warning, I threw a punch at his head.

“Ahh!” Zhao Gao shrieked and shut his eyes tightly. However, my fist didn’t land on his face but instead struck the wall beside him. I looked at him and said coldly, “This is payback.”

Then, I turned to leave. But after a few steps, I spun back around and whispered into Zhao Gao’s ear, “Go back and tell the Zhao family patriarch: The second son will always be the second son. If he ever gets an erect!on without permission again, someone will personally c*strate him.”

Zhao Gao was still frozen in fear from my punch, unable to react. I didn’t care whether he heard me or not—I simply walked away.

“Brother-in-law, I have a good relationship with Zhao Chen. I’ll have a word with him, and the Zhao family shouldn’t trouble you.” As we walked, Wang Haoming turned back and said this to me.

Zhao Chen must be the eldest son of the Zhao family. I nodded, smiled, and replied, “Thanks.” Then, I asked, “By the way, Brother Ming, how did you know I was arrested?”

“Liu Dong called me. I already know everything. That brat who had no sense got what was coming to him—I’ve taught him a lesson. He won’t be appearing in front of you again,” Wang Haoming said with a grin.

Although he spoke lightly, I knew that coach’s fate was definitely not going to be pleasant.

“Then Ziyan also called me, so I rushed over. Those useless fools dared to touch my brother-in-law—they must be tired of living. Honestly, today’s explosion wasn’t big enough.” Wang Haoming seemed somewhat regretful.

I turned to Wang Ziyan and said, “Thanks…”

“You didn’t explain at the time, so I… I’m sorry!” Wang Ziyan said, her cheeks flushing slightly.

What do you mean I didn’t explain? You didn’t even give me a chance! And why is your brother calling me his brother-in-law? Shouldn’t you at least clarify that? My head was starting to ache.

Then, Wang Ziyan continued, “My brother told me that your strength is about the same as his, and that you’re also Senior Long’s disciple. So, I’ve decided—I agree to marry you!”

I had no such intentions! My heart belonged to Mei’er—my everything belonged to Mei’er!

“Didn’t you say I couldn’t take responsibility for you? You should find someone better,” I said awkwardly.

But who knew that as soon as she heard that, tears welled up in Wang Ziyan’s eyes. “Are you rejecting me?”

“No, I—” I panicked. I hated seeing girls cry—I never knew what to do when they did.

“Is it because I’m older than you?” Wang Ziyan gazed at me with teary eyes.

Beside me, Wang Haoming chimed in, “Brother-in-law, don’t you know the saying? ‘A woman three years older is worth a brick of gold!’ My sister is only three years older than you—it’s a perfect match. This is your blessing!”

“I already have a girlfriend!” I said helplessly. Though Mei’er hadn’t officially admitted it yet…

Wang Ziyan glared at me and shouted, “Xia Tian, I hate you!” Then, she shoved me and ran off.

“Brother-in-law, that was out of line. What’s wrong with my sister?” Wang Haoming looked at me, seemingly displeased.

I quickly said, “Brother Ming, don’t you still want to become Senior Long’s disciple?”

“This… uh…” Wang Haoming’s expression instantly softened, and he put on a fawning smile. “Young people—small misunderstandings are normal. I’ll go over and comfort my sister!”

As he turned to leave, he called out loudly, “Sister, having a girlfriend doesn’t matter! We can just steal him away! I refuse to believe there’s a woman better than you!”

Steal me away?! What kind of twisted logic was this?!
