Chapter 268: Thank You for Your Mercy, Senior

“Sun, Sun Jing, how did you end up here?” I looked at Sun Jing with a hint of confusion. This is the birthday banquet of the Hao family’s old patriarch; how could she possibly be here?

Sun Jing smiled at me and said, “I came with my senior. He said I should come out and see the world!”

“I see…” I scratched my head with a smile. Senior? D*mn! All those seniors are no good, always competing with juniors for girls!

“Hey! Classmate, didn’t you say last time that you would treat me to a meal? How come I haven’t seen you since then?” Sun Jing crossed her arms and looked at me like an interrogator.

I awkwardly chuckled, “Did I?” After all that drama with Qin Mengdie back then, who had time to flirt or eat out? The key point is that my memory isn’t too great…

“Of course you did! Hey! Classmate, you’re not trying to dodge your debt, are you?” Sun Jing looked at me playfully.

D*mn! It seems like today’s girls are getting more assertive!

I forced a couple of laughs and replied, “How could that be!”

“Alright, alright! Just kidding with you. Back when I was hanging out with classmates, I didn’t have time for meals either!” Sun Jing said to me while smiling.

Sun Jing isn’t very pretty in a conventional sense but when she smiles, there’s an inexplicable charm about her that makes one feel calm and forget their worries.

Just as I was thinking this, a tall guy walked over. This guy was really handsome—not in the flower boy way like Hao Shuai—but rather in a ruggedly masculine way. However, looking at him made me uncomfortable; I swear it’s definitely not envy or jealousy!

The guy glanced at me briefly before ignoring me completely and smiling at Sun Jing. “Xiao Jing, the banquet is about to start. Let’s go meet some big shots from Beijing; it’ll be beneficial for your future development here.”

“Senior,” Sun Jing laughed lightly and replied, “Actually, I’m not very keen on dealing with those uncles…”

She pointed at me and introduced proudly: “This is my high school classmate Xia Tian!”

The senior smiled back as he extended his right hand and said: “Hello! My name is Yang Weize; I’m Xiao Jing’s senior!”

“Hello!” I also smiled back as we shook hands.

Oh man! What does this senior mean by shaking my hand so kindly? Turns out he just wants to take this opportunity to mess with me. But his grip strength was nowhere near mine.

Let alone our cultivation levels and physical build—how can someone like him compete against someone who has been single for eighteen years?

I pretended to grimace in pain trying to pull my hand back when Yang Weize noticed my retreating demeanor and tightened his grip again.

I did this deliberately for Sun Jing’s benefit because sure enough she piped up: “Senior, your grip is so strong you’re hurting Xia Tian—quickly let go!”

“Oh? Is that so?” Yang Weize paused momentarily but clearly had no intention of releasing his grip.

I couldn’t help but smirk inwardly; alright now it’s time for this act to reach its climax. Suddenly applying force myself resulted in a loud cracking sound from our bones rubbing together which caused Yang Weize’s face to contort in pain momentarily; however it quickly vanished as he realized Sun Jing was watching him—he probably feared losing face so he silently endured the pain instead.

This is what they call being vain while suffering silently—I continued pretending to be hurt while exclaiming “ow” repeatedly as if it were actually happening to me.

Sun Jing started getting anxious beside us: “Senior let go already!”

“I… I…” Yang Weize stammered unable to articulate anything further; right now he felt like a mute eating bitter herbs without any means of expressing his discomfort.

Feigning immense suffering once more towards Sun Jing I assured her: “I’m fine!”

“Senior! I really didn’t expect you’d be this kind of person!” It seemed like Sun Jing got angry now as she added sternly: “If you don’t let go soon then I’ll never talk to you again!”

“I…” Yang Weize was on the verge of tears. I had played enough, so I simply withdrew my hand and said, “Thank you, senior, for your mercy!” Clearly, he was the one at a disadvantage yet still tried to maintain his composure as he calmly said, “It was just a joke; please don’t be angry!”

“Of course not! How could I dare?” I chuckled and ignored this guy named Yang Weize. Before long, Hao Shuai came over with Lu Sen and the others. As soon as Lu Sen arrived, he tried to give me a passionate ki$s—D*mn! What a disgusting gay guy trying to gross me out!

I introduced them to Zhang Yu and the others; it was like we were getting acquainted. Lu Sen’s outgoing personality quickly meshed well with Zhang Yu and the rest. Though Lu Sen and Hao Shuai were also my brothers, I didn’t want them involved in my family matters.

It was obvious that Hao Shuai had already been treated as the heir of the Hao family. Both Lu Sen and Diao Sinan were only children in their families too; when they eventually reached their family heads’ level, having someone from that status help me would likely lead to their families killing me without hesitation if they found out.

Suddenly, Hao Shuai whispered in my ear, “Boss, what’s the name of that girl next to you?”

“What? Are you interested in her?” I teased him with a smirk.

Hao Shuai’s face turned red as he hurriedly replied, “N-No! I just want to make friends!” Make friends? Come on! Who are you kidding? But knowing Hao Shuai’s character, if he ended up with Sun Jing instead of being tricked by that senior guy would be better.

So I directly introduced Sun Jing: “This is my good brother Hao Shuai; today is his grandfather’s seventieth birthday.”

“Hao Shuai? That name sounds funny,” Sun Jing laughed.

Hao Shuai blushed even more and stammered out, “The n-name was given by my parents; it’s not what I wanted.”

I thought to myself: how clueless can you be? Usually quite smart but now acting like an idiot—what a pain! Forget it; chasing girls is his own business; I’ll stay out of it.

“Xia Tian!” Suddenly I heard someone calling my name. Looking up, it turned out to be Qin Shousheng along with Qin Mengdie. By the way, Qin Fusheng is actually Qin Mengdie’s father; why does she seem closer to Qin Shousheng?

Also, while the Hao family is prestigious too, they shouldn’t have sent people from the Qin family here for gifts or congratulations… right? No wait—I’m here representing the Xia family head; having more people from their side isn’t unusual!

I stood up quickly and greeted them: “Uncle Qin! What brings you here?” Qin Mengdie wore an icy expression—I really didn’t want to provoke her bad mood.

“I went looking for you at the Xia house,” Qin Shousheng explained with a smile. “But your relatives said you went to attend old master Hao’s seventieth birthday celebration so I came straight here.”

So it turns out Qin Shousheng came specifically looking for me first—to see what was going on. Looking at him curiously, I asked: “Uncle Qin wanted something?”

“I’m here to give you your medical fee!”

As he spoke this line while pulling out a small brocade box left me dumbfounded—medical fee? Could it be a treasure passed down through the Qin family?! (G: 诊费 – zhěn fèi – medical fee)
