Chapter 27: Evolution (part 1)

We went down, further down.

There were no major problems with navigation. Everyone here was a summoner with a 3-star summon, and the power of a 3-star summon was greater than I thought. No enemy was powerful enough to withstand the combination of the four 3-star summons.

“What is it?” Stella murmured quietly as she looked at the door that had already appeared more than 20 times and the monsters that had appeared just as frequently.

Although they didn’t speak, Noah and Syrah also seemed to have doubts about this space. Except for the name, I didn’t know the details either, so I joked a bit.

“Well, it could be the Demon King’s forward base.”

“—Don’t joke like that. Words can become seeds for reality.”

When I mentioned the Demon King, Stella reacted as if I had spoken of someone forbidden.

I looked at her and soon realized why. To the people of this world, the Demon King was akin to a calamity to mankind, somewhat similar to Satan, so she had to react like that.

‘According to the story, even the emperor couldn’t win…it’s such an existence.’

Even the emperor, a 5-star summoner, could not overcome it and was only pushed back. That’s how strong the Demon King was.

Well, it was something beyond the current me.

‘By the way, Demon King. How do you get it?’

Theoretically, the Demon King could also be captured as a summon. Well, in theory at least, in terms of game specifications. With a fully-enhanced summon and six summons with two fully-reinforced ceremonies, you could barely beat it. But I wasn’t some filthy rich guy who would waste their money. Also I didn’t try it because I didn’t have the spirit of challenge to enjoy the game that way.

‘After all, I’m not alone.’

If I alone could draw six 5-star summons, strengthen them all, and charge the Demon King, I could restore world peace by myself. It was also a problem to gather enough soul stones to gacha 6 times right now, and it was also a problem to select an SSS-class summon that is a 5-star summon for all 6 times with a step difference of the 6 times.

‘It’s a ridiculous probability.’

It was a lower probability than purchasing 5 lottery tickets and winning all 1st to 5th places. If I had such luck, I would never have fallen to this world or died from an incurable disease.

I stood in front of the door that appeared again and looked back at the cadets.

“So, would you like to go further? if not…go back?”

The cadets began to worry. Because there was a reward for me, the further down I go, the better, but it wasn’t the same for them. It was quite frightening to have to descend infinitely without knowing when the end would be in this dark dungeon where you don’t know what might come out in the future. Judging by their age, although they were not some weak high school girls, they still wanted to avoid scary things.

“What would you like to do?” Stella asked me.

Of course, I wanted to go down, so was that even a question?

But I couldn’t answer that. I said while stroking the door that appeared in front of me.

“I want to go further down.”

“…why?”

“Aren’t you curious? Who made this? What is behind this?”

Hearing this, the three of them began to think deeply. Anyway, it hadn’t been very dangerous so far, and it seemed like no existence worthy of being called a monster had appeared.

“I will follow you.”

But then, Noah took the lead.

There was determination in her eyes. That determination to follow me no matter what threat lay ahead. When one person came first, the other two pretended to be worried, but their minds followed suit, as did their bodies.

Soon after, both of them walked forward.

“—Yeah, well, as you said, we should know who made it.”

“Everyone is going, but what do I have to do to go back alone?”

The four hands touched the door at the same time. I laughed and talked to them.

“Then you can’t go back even if you want to.” Saying so, I opened the door.

Beyond the door that had been opened more than 20 times, the lowest level monster appeared.

* * *

“This monster…?” Noah saw the monster’s face and realized it was quite familiar.

I remember seeing it somewhere. And it wasn’t long before I succeeded in recalling that memory.

“Like the one that sneaked into the academy…!” Recalling that time, Noah summoned all of her summons.

Terraman and Colossus appeared and filled the cave.

“Is it true that it was the work of a real demon?”

When a monster identical to the one that appeared in the academy once appeared in the dungeon, Stella muttered in astonishment.

Among them, Syrah alone, not knowing what had happened, tilted her head and began to panic.

“What are you all talking about? Are demons entering the academy?”

“Oh, you don’t know.” Stella glanced at Syrah and me alternately and started to look at each other for a moment. She might have been wondering if she should reveal it.

Eventually, I made a decision and opened my mouth.

“Not long after the entrance ceremony, demons invaded the academy.”

“Really? It’s the first I’ve heard of it.”

“They must have been really good at maintaining security.”

“Then why do you know?”

“It was Noah who was attacked back then, and we were the ones who saved her.”

“Ahh.” Saying so, she looked at Noah with curious eyes.

Not everyone here looked so nervous. The enemy was an opponent that one lowest level monster, 1-star summon could defeat it alone.
