Chapter 28: Ding Ruxiao Joins

“What’s wrong?”

Zuo Si asked, but Meng Miaoxue did not respond; she simply blocked the path ahead.

“Is there something going on?”

He continued to ask, but Meng Miaoxue seemed unwilling to speak.

She raised her right hand and pointed in a direction, signaling Zuo Si to follow her.

Zuo Si followed Meng Miaoxue all the way to Operating Room 1.

The lights here were still flickering incessantly, and aside from Shen Xia, the other three ghosts had already vanished.

Blood tears continued to flow down Shen Xia’s face, showing no signs of stopping, and her hollow gaze radiated deep despair.

“What happened to her?” Zuo Si looked at Meng Miaoxue in surprise.

Meng Miaoxue floated in front of Zuo Si and extended her pale hand.

Zuo Si looked down and saw a syringe needle in her palm.

“Is it because of the performance involving the needle?”

Zuo Si asked in shock, and Meng Miaoxue nodded before disappearing.

Zuo Si scratched his head, looking at Shen Xia before him; the fear was gone, and he felt a bit sorry for her instead.

“Don’t worry, I was just joking. Even if you don’t perform the needle trick, I won’t fire you.”

Zuo Si’s words had an effect; the blood tears stopped flowing from the corners of Shen Xia’s eyes.

“From now on, just be obedient. This is your home; as long as you don’t cause trouble, I will treat you well.”

Zuo Si comforted her a bit more, and Shen Xia’s figure gradually faded away under the flickering lights.

“Ah!!!” In the distance, a woman’s scream pierced Zuo Si’s ears, seemingly coming from the inpatient department, which was in the direction of the entrance.

If it had been before, Zuo Si would have definitely been scared, but now…

His heart had grown strong enough that this sudden scream no longer stirred any waves within him.

But he had to go check it out; it was clearly a person!

When he had entered the buffer room earlier, Zuo Si hadn’t closed the door, so someone might have accidentally walked in.

“D*mn it, not only did they come in without a ticket, but now I have to go save her!”

Although he felt a bit annoyed, Zuo Si didn’t slow down his pace at all.

He dashed to the inpatient department, and the unknown danger had already been lifted; Zuo Si was no longer afraid.

“Ah~!” The woman’s high-pitched scream came again, and this time Zuo Si heard it clearly, not only determining the location but also recognizing who it was!

“How did Ding Ruxiao get in here!?”

He rushed into a patient room and found Ding Ruxiao huddled in the corner like she had seen a ghost.

In the bathroom of the room, a terrifying doll was peeking out, staring at her with its unblinking eyes.

Zuo Si shook his head helplessly and hurried to Ding Ruxiao’s side, comforting her, “It’s me, don’t be afraid, I’m Zuo Si…”

Hearing Zuo Si’s voice, Ding Ruxiao clung to him like she had found a lifeline, quickly raising her head to look for his figure.

When she saw Zuo Si squatting beside her, she immediately wrapped her arms around his neck, crying softly.

With her fragrant presence, Zuo Si felt secretly pleased.

But he didn’t forget to comfort her.

“Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, it’s all fake, there’s nothing to be scared of.”

Zuo Si was just standing there saying this, but if it were him alone in here, he would have been scared out of his wits.

Let alone Ding Ruxiao, a girl.

“Your props are too scary… wuwuwu.”

It was the first time Zuo Si saw Ding Ruxiao in such a vulnerable state, and he felt a bit unaccustomed.

“Let’s go outside first.”

Zuo Si helped Ding Ruxiao to her feet, but she clung tightly to his arm, staring at the terrifying doll until they reached the door.

“Why does she keep looking at me?”

“This doll has a sensor; it triggers when someone enters the room. The principle is quite simple,” Zuo Si explained. “If you’re scared, just close your eyes, and I’ll take you out.”

“Okay, okay!” Ding Ruxiao obediently closed her eyes.

Zuo Si led her toward the staff passage he had entered earlier.

The ‘three corpse props’ in the patient room were still sitting upright; it seemed they would remain in this state unless restored manually.

‘Every time after use, they have to be restored manually, which is a bit of a hassle,’ Zuo Si thought. ‘Maybe I should train Liu Wenguang to handle the restoration of the props in the future; he’s more talkative, so it should be easier to teach him.’

Once they were out of the scary scene, Zuo Si let Ding Ruxiao open her eyes.

He then asked, “What are you doing here?”

“It’s noon; I came to call you out for lunch.”

“Why didn’t you just call me? Look at how scared you are.”

As soon as Zuo Si finished speaking, Ding Ruxiao immediately realized something, pulled her arm away, and tidied her messy hair.

“I was just a bit curious about what it was like inside…”

After saying that, Ding Ruxiao walked outside a bit shyly.

The two of them arrived at the small courtyard, where all the weeds had been cleared away.

In the middle of the yard was a new wooden table, looking like it had just been bought recently.

On the table were takeout packages, and Lu Tao was happily devouring his meal.

“Thanks for your hard work~” Zuo Si approached Lu Tao and patted his shoulder.

“How’s the haunted house set up?” Lu Tao asked, his words a bit unclear.

“It’s going well; if all goes as planned, we can open tomorrow.”

“So fast!” Lu Tao was quite surprised. “Hey, I’m feeling sour; you already have your own business, and I’m still just an ordinary employee!”

Though he said that, he was genuinely happy for Zuo Si.

“We’ll all get better over time,” Zuo Si said gratefully, looking at the two of them. “Thank you for coming to help today!”

“When did you become so polite? Did you take the wrong medicine?”

Lu Tao rolled his eyes at him.

“With such a big haunted house, can you manage it all by yourself?” Ding Ruxiao asked.

“Definitely can’t manage it all; I’m worried about that!”

Zuo Si had also thought about asking Lu Tao for help.

But he felt it might end up being a burden for Lu Tao.

Although working at a funeral home doesn’t sound appealing, it is still a legitimate job, with good benefits and a high salary.

Zuo Si’s haunted house hadn’t opened yet, and the future business situation was still uncertain.

If it were to go bankrupt, Lu Tao would end up unemployed.

Zuo Si knew very well that Lu Tao’s family had financial difficulties.

“I’ll come help tomorrow; I’ll be your employee from now on~”

Ding Ruxiao’s sudden statement caught Zuo Si off guard.

“What, what did you say?!”

“I said I’ve already resigned from Grand Wealth Club and plan to work at your haunted house!”

Ding Ruxiao turned back with a smile that could charm a hundred hearts; it was hard to imagine that such a beautiful girl would voluntarily want to work in a haunted house.

“But let’s make it clear first; I won’t participate in any work inside the scary scenes~” she added.

“No problem; even if you do nothing, I’ll still pay you!” Zuo Si said excitedly.
