Chapter 34: Encounter with Gao Shuai Again

The shop owner, seeing the large brick in my hand, took several steps back in fear. Holding onto the table with one hand and pointing at me with the other, he said, “Little brother, one hundred bucks is already very cheap. No need to rob me, right?”

Damn! It looks like the owner misunderstood. What if he refuses to sell it to me now?

It was then that I remembered why I had a brick in my back pocket.

The brick was the one Sister Lin had given me earlier. As Sister Lin bought more and more items, she found it cumbersome and put it into my back pocket. Don’t ask how big my pocket is; honestly, it’s quite spacious. So, the brick fit in quite easily.

What made me want to spit blood was that Sister Lin, looking shocked, said, “Xia Tian, from five thousand down to one hundred, the shop owner is already slashing prices like crazy. Why are you threatening him with a brick?”

Damn it! This was clearly your idea! You’re totally throwing me under the bus here!

“No, I…” I was just about to explain when the shop owner, in an urgent voice, suddenly said, “Little brother, fifty okay? Fifty bucks. I’ll sell it for fifty. Just please put down the brick!”

Fifty bucks?! That’s a huge difference from five thousand. Looking at the brick in my hand, I couldn’t help but sigh, “With this brick in hand, what more could I want in life?”

I took out a hundred-yuan bill from my pocket, handed it to the owner, and said with a smile, “You’re too kind, sir!”

The shop owner forced a smile and gave me fifty yuan in change.

I took the money and the jade pendant and turned to leave. I had to admire that, even though this owner used to be in the tomb-robbing business when he was young, so many years of peace had completely washed away his ferocity.

“Xia Tian, you’re amazing! You got something worth five thousand for just fifty bucks!” Sister Lin gave me a thumbs up, her face full of excitement as we walked down the street.

Hearing that, I flicked my hair a bit arrogantly and said, “Of course. Do you know who I am? I’m Xia Tian!”

“By the way, where did you get that brick?” Sister Lin’s question nearly made me stumble and fall. Sister Lin, I truly admire you!

“Found it on the road. Let’s not talk about it. It’s already eleven-thirty. Let’s head back!” I replied casually and quickened my pace.

“Wait for me!” Sister Lin saw me speeding up and quickly followed.

As we walked, I suddenly felt something was wrong. It was too quiet around us—eerily quiet.

Where did the small stalls nearby go? They were all here just a moment ago when I entered the antique shop. How could they all disappear so quickly?

Could it be that the highly skilled city patrol team arrived? But even if the stalls are gone, why is there no one around?

“Xia Tian, why did you stop?” Sister Lin asked, puzzled, seeing me standing still.

“Oh, it’s nothing. Let’s go.” Maybe I was overthinking it, but I couldn’t shake off a sense of impending danger.

“Hmph! You finally came out!” Suddenly, a familiar cold voice sounded. I looked up, and damn it, it was Gao Shuai!

One Gao Shuai wasn’t much of a problem, but the dozen or so thugs with different hair colors behind him gave me quite a shock. The worst part was that each of them was holding a steel pipe.

I originally had a brick, but I casually tossed it away after leaving the antique shop. Now, this situation was not easy to handle.

However, Sister Lin couldn’t tell the seriousness of the situation. Looking at me in confusion, she asked, “Your friend?”

Damn it, how could she think that? They looked menacing. How could she see them as my friends?

“Friend, my ass! They’re here for revenge!” I said irritably. Explaining things to Sister Lin could be really exhausting.

Hearing that, Sister Lin panicked, “What should we do? There are so many of them. You definitely can’t beat them. What if they do something terrible to me?”

I was getting a headache. Sister Lin’s vivid imagination was running wild again. Why did her words make little Xia Tian react? This sensitivity is too low!

As Gao Shuai and his gang got closer, especially when they saw Sister Lin, their eyes flashed with malice. They looked at me with more hatred, as if I had done something terrible to their mothers.

“Run!” I grabbed Sister Lin and started running back.

These thugs were different from school students. No matter how ruthless students were, they’d hold back. But these thugs wouldn’t care about that.

My physical strength had improved a lot after building my foundation. Dealing with these thugs wouldn’t be too hard, but the problem was that Sister Lin was with me. I couldn’t use my full strength.

If these thugs really did what Sister Lin feared, things would get out of hand!

But after running a few steps, another group of about seven or eight people appeared in front of us.

Damn it! Gao Shuai really planned to trap me this time.

“What should we do, Xia Tian?” Sister Lin seemed really scared, instinctively holding onto my shoulder.

Normally, I’d probably have a nosebleed from this, but the current situation didn’t allow for any fantasies. Little Xia Tian also cooperated and didn’t react.

“Hold onto my neck!” I gritted my teeth. If it weren’t for Sister Lin, I might have tried to fight them off. But now wasn’t the time to be impulsive.

“W-what?” Sister Lin asked, confused.

“Hold onto my neck!” I repeated impatiently. Now was not the time to mess up.

Startled by my tone, Sister Lin quickly wrapped her arms around my neck. I picked her up and started running.

Being carried in a princess carry, Sister Lin blushed, but I had no time to admire that.

The few people in front of us were momentarily stunned by my sudden speed increase, giving me the chance to dash past them.

“Damn it! Stop standing around! Chase them!” Gao Shuai yelled, furious. The thugs finally reacted and started cursing while chasing us.

Even though I was carrying Sister Lin, my speed didn’t slow down. I chose narrow alleys to run through. With so many people, they found it crowded and slow in the narrow spaces.

“Ha! A bunch of idiots. Think you can catch me!” I looked back at the thugs far behind us, feeling a surge of pride. I was awesome!

Just as I was feeling triumphant, four or five people suddenly appeared at the alley entrance ahead. The leader pointed a steel pipe at me and laughed, “Where do you think you’re running now?”

Damn it! When did thugs get so smart? They even know how to encircle. This is not logical!

Wolves in front, tigers behind. Looks like I’m in big trouble this time.

Just as I was about to give up on running, fate offered a glimmer of hope. There was a corner to my right not far away. Feeling a bit relieved, I taunted the thug who had just pointed at me, “Hey, idiot!” Then I darted into the alley. But this alley turned out to be a dead end!

Just as I was about to retreat, it was too late. Gao Shuai and his thugs arrived. Seeing it was a dead end, they all laughed.

Gao Shuai laughed the loudest, “Let’s see where you run now!”

Sister Lin, who had been blushing, turned pale. “Xia Tian, we’re doomed…”
