“Do you think someone as legendary as me, Xia Tian, will just die here? Not only am I handsome and talented, but I’m also the main character! Where’s my protagonist’s aura? Or do good people die young?”
As I neared death, a flood of thoughts rushed through my mind. My only regret was not finishing that 2GB of… content I had. But these thoughts were fleeting, and just as the fireball was about to consume me, a clear voice shouted, “Xia Tian!”
Hearing that voice filled me with a surge of emotion, like rain falling on a drought-stricken land, instantly reviving my spirits. As expected, Mei’er had come.
A nine-tailed white fox appeared, its tails swinging as it deflected the fireball and shielded me.
“A nine-tailed fox!” The Blood Fiend Ancestor seemed shocked, his expression rich with disbelief.
“Impossible! Impossible! How could this boy have a nine-tailed fox protecting him?” The Blood Fiend Ancestor yelled like a madman.
“Xia Tian, are you alright?” Mei’er, in her true form, asked with concern. I chuckled, “I’m fine!”
Mei’er looked at the crazed Blood Fiend Ancestor with a grave expression, murmuring, “How could there be such powerful Blood Fiend energy?”
“Oh, this old man claims to be the Blood Fiend Ancestor. He must have escaped from that jade pendant.” It seemed the tomb raiders’ suspicions were correct; the pendant was indeed dangerous.
As I shivered at the thought of what could have happened if Mei’er had been a bit later, Mei’er’s previously serious face suddenly lit up with excitement. “Xia Tian, this is great!”
What was great about almost being devoured? Before I could ask, the old man spat out, “Youngster, I’ll let you go this time. I must leave!” He transformed into a red light and shot into the sky.
Just as I was about to breathe a sigh of relief, Mei’er shocked me by shouting, “Where do you think you’re going?” She transformed into white light and chased after him, leaving me alone in the dark space.
The surrounding silence was eerie, filling me with unease. To be blunt, I was scared. But I had no idea how to escape this cursed place.
As I pondered this, my vision blurred, and I fainted. When I woke up, I was back in reality.
“Damn! That was miraculous!” I exclaimed, suddenly remembering that Mei’er was still fighting the Blood Fiend Ancestor. Anxiety gripped me.
Mei’er had been sealed for five hundred years, and the old man had been sealed even longer. He must be much stronger than Mei’er.
“Little fox, we are both demons. Why are you helping that human boy? Let me go this time, and I will repay you handsomely in the future!” The Blood Fiend Ancestor’s voice echoed from not far away. Following the sound, I saw they were fighting near the toilet. What?
“Weren’t you trying to devour and refine me just now, old man? Now you’re begging a little girl?” I taunted, feeling a rush of satisfaction.
Seeing Mei’er unharmed, I realized my earlier worries were for nothing.
“You… hmph!” The Blood Fiend Ancestor, speechless with rage, tried to flee, but Mei’er wouldn’t let him. She made a graceful gesture, releasing a burst of white light that enveloped the old man. He screamed, “I won’t let you get away with this!”
I thought the white light would destroy the Blood Fiend Ancestor, but it turned into a light ball and flew into Mei’er’s hand.
“Why not finish him off?” I asked, puzzled. After all, the Blood Fiend Ancestor had tormented me enough in the purple mansion.
Mei’er smiled wryly at my expression. “He isn’t a physical being but a primordial spirit of a demon, much like a human soul. If not for his recent unsealing, I couldn’t have dealt with him.”
“So, we’re letting him go?” I felt a bit resentful.
Mei’er didn’t answer directly but continued, “The Blood Fiend Ancestor’s primordial spirit is extremely powerful. If you refine it, your mental strength will greatly increase. It’s better than destroying him.”
“All this time, you were thinking of my benefit! Mei’er, you’re the best!” Suddenly, I felt even more attached to Mei’er.
Following Mei’er’s instructions, I devoured and refined the Blood Fiend Ancestor’s primordial spirit. There was some resistance, but it was no big deal, mainly due to the white light ball that restricted him. This allowed me to easily refine the powerful primordial spirit.
When it was over, I felt unusually energized. I hadn’t felt this alert since starting high school. And that wasn’t the only benefit.
Looking around, everything was exceptionally clear, down to the smallest fingerprint details. It felt like my vision had improved significantly.
Oddly, I didn’t feel any guilt about refining the Blood Fiend Ancestor’s spirit. Despite his human-like appearance, he wasn’t human. Was I a cold-blooded animal?
No, I remembered crying for half a day after accidentally stepping on an ant when I was five. So, the Blood Fiend Ancestor was worth less to me than an ant.
In retrospect, I was indeed a killer, having taken billions of lives with my right hand.
“How do you feel?” Mei’er asked, sitting on the sofa, munching on an apple.
“Pretty good,” I replied with a dry laugh. Suddenly, a foul stench hit my nose. Looking down, I saw my body covered in sticky black liquid. Embarrassed to be in this state in front of a beauty, I cursed, “Damn! I need a bath!”
Rushing to the bathroom, I heard Mei’er giggling behind me. Damn, this was embarrassing!
Whistling, I scrubbed every inch of my skin with premium soap. My once weak-looking body had become more robust after two rounds of purification. My appearance also became more refined. Admiring myself in the mirror, I couldn’t help but exclaim, “Damn, I’m handsome!”
But before I could finish admiring myself, the bathroom door suddenly opened with a click. Before I could turn around, a piercing scream echoed, “Ah!!!”
Turning around, I saw Sister Lin standing there. Damn! When did she come in?
