As soon as the door opened, I felt a powerful surge of malevolent energy engulf my entire being, and in an instant, my senses seemed to vanish entirely.
Anxiety, tension, anger, frustration, sadness, pain, bloodlustâevery negative emotion surged forward. I didn’t even know how to express my current feelings.
The True Qi stored within my body seemed to be completely absorbed.
A sinister voice echoed, “I… am finally free!”
The moment the voice emerged, I snapped back to my senses. I immediately heightened my mental fortitude to the maximum, trying to dispel all the negative emotions. But I found one emotion that I couldn’t shake off… fear, nearly limitless fear!
Inside the opened bathroom, a thick black mist swirled, with only two red glowing points staring straight at me.
Those red lights seemed capable of devouring me. I was terrified, retreating until I backed against the bathroom wall and stopped.
“Xia Tian! Snap out of it!” Suddenly, a burst of white light flashed across my chest, and Mei’er appeared before me in human form, shielding me.
“Ah!!!” I shouted to the heavens. My dantian was nearly exhausted, but a sliver of True Qi remained, slowly circulating with all my effort.
I needed a more powerful mental force to block the fear caused by the unknown monster in the bathroom.
The spiritual power of the Blood Fiend Ancestor, which I had not fully refined, was now completely merged within me.
With the significant increase in spiritual power, the feeling of fear slowly faded until it vanished.
“Fox clan?” The black mist seemed surprised upon seeing Mei’er, then let out a sinister laugh. “I didn’t know when the demon clan started allying with cultivators.”
The red light within the black mist flickered, and it laughed a few times, saying, “It feels great to have power again!”
The red light turned to me. “Kid, though your True Qi is insignificant, I still have to thank you. Without you, I would never have broken this seal!”
My fists clenched tightly, teeth grinding, filled with extreme anger. Yet, I had no way to defeat the monster before me, not even the courage to attempt to fight it.
“Do you regret it?” The black mist remained motionless, seemingly in a good mood as it had yet to attack me.
A sigh came from the mist. “A thousand years, I exhausted all my power to break this seal, only to deplete my energy entirely at the last moment, just a little bit short! But I didn’t give up. I just needed to attract a cultivator and borrow their True Qi to break the seal! I didn’t want to stay in the seal, listening to you humans’ boring words!”
“The first time you came, I sensed your cultivation energy. It was so nostalgic!” Suddenly, its spiritual energy surged, “But you left! I was plunged into despair, thinking I’d never escape that damn space! Then you came back, foolishly falling for the trap! I’ve had enough of this place!”
“Now, to celebrate my escape, you two will be my first blood sacrifices!” With a sharp screech, it instantly appeared before Mei’er and me.
“Roar!” Mei’er suddenly howled to the sky, nine splendid white fox tails growing from her back, two cute fox ears appearing on her head, and her hands transforming into fox claws, fully entering combat mode.
“Hmm? Nine-tailed fox!” The black mist quickly retreated, speaking with some suspicion, “Impossible! ‘The appearance of the nine-tailed fox heralds chaos in the world,’ cultivators cannot allow it to stay in the human realm!”
The red light within the black mist stared intently at Mei’er, seemingly pondering something, then burst into laughter, “So you’re like me, just breaking out of a seal! But…” The black mist’s tone shifted, “But your threat is much greater than mine, so the cultivators put a double seal on you! To regain my strength, I just need to hide and slowly cultivate, but the seal on your tails requires ten times the spiritual energy to unlock!”
Hearing the black mist’s words, I was stunned. Mei’er had clearly said her seal was easy to break, and her current progress showed it wasn’t difficult. So why did the monster say that?
“Only two of your tails have dense spiritual energy, the rest are just for show. I have no need to fear you!” The black mist rushed at us again.
“Mei’er!” Though I didn’t know Mei’er’s exact strength, I could feel she wasn’t a match for the monster. I pushed her away, using my body to shield her.
The black mist attacked me, and the remaining sliver of True Qi vanished. My mental strength, under the onslaught of negative emotions, was about to give out. Darkness enveloped my vision. Just when I felt I couldn’t hold on, the black mist suddenly stopped its attack, cursing, “Damn cultivators!” The malevolent energy the mist carried vanished from the space.
With my energy drained, I collapsed to the ground. My mind was active, but I couldn’t move my body.
“Xia Tian, Xia Tian, don’t scare me!” Mei’er shook me. I wanted to respond but couldn’t control my body.
Suddenly, two voices came from afar.
First, a female voice, “Senior Brother, we’re still late. It has broken the seal left by the Ancestor and escaped.”
“The seal’s vicinity has mortal traces. Let’s check it out first,” said a male voice.
Judging by their conversation, they were likely cultivators, confirming the existence of cultivation sects in this world.
Mei’er, hide quickly! Don’t get caught by the cultivators! My heart was in turmoil, but Mei’er couldn’t hear my thoughts.
“Senior Brother, there are two unconscious mortals here!” The female voice sounded again. When she mentioned two, my heart skipped a beat. But then she said “mortals,” and I was relieved. However, I was puzzled why Mei’er also fainted. Had she been attacked by the black mist?
Though I didn’t understand why they hadn’t discovered Mei’er’s true identity or why she fainted, as long as she remained undiscovered, it was fine.
“They’re completely drained, likely due to its energy absorption,” the male voice sighed, with a hint of helplessness.
The female voice asked in confusion, “But why didn’t it kill them?”
“I’m not sure either!” The male seemed clueless about our situation.
He continued, “Let’s give them some pills. Otherwise, they might die. This is our Shushan Sect’s oversight; we can’t let them perish.”
“Whatever Senior Brother says!” The female didn’t refuse. Soon, I felt a pill in my mouth, guided down my throat by someone’s True Qi.
“After taking the pill, they should be fine, but…” the male voice changed, “that creature’s existence must remain unknown to mortals, so let’s erase their memories.”
As soon as he finished speaking, I felt a sharp pain in my head and lost consciousness completely.
