“Why is there a police car at our school? Did something happen?” Fatty said, holding an unfinished bun in his hand.
Zhang Yu glanced at the police car, his expression a bit serious. “Could it be that Wang Hu played dirty and called the police on us?”
“Damn! We beat up the principal’s son yesterday. Could it be that the principal is coming after us?” Fatty seemed to have suddenly thought of something, and his bun fell to the ground, his face filled with shock.
“Damn it! Can you not jinx it?” Zhang Yu kicked Fatty, but the worried look on his face betrayed him. It seemed he wasn’t as unconcerned as he appeared.
I smiled and put my arms around their shoulders. “Stop overthinking. The police car definitely isn’t here for us.”
“Are you sure?” Fatty said skeptically. “My jinxes are usually spot on.”
Zhang Yu watched the police car drive away. “It went towards the principal’s office. Looks like Fatty’s jinx is right again.”
“Just because it’s going to the principal’s office doesn’t mean it’s about us! Let’s go see what’s happening!” I said, starting to walk. Zhang Yu and Fatty exchanged looks and followed behind me.
When we reached the principal’s office, a crowd had already gathered. By the time we arrived, the principal was being escorted out by the police, and inside the office, a decent-looking female teacher was hurriedly getting dressed.
“Damn! This is explosive!” Zhang Yu’s eyes were fixated on the teacher getting dressed, paying no attention to why the principal was being arrested.
“Looks like fate is on our side!” Fatty sighed and continued, “We beat up the principal’s son yesterday, and today the principal gets arrested. When I go home this weekend, I have to burn some incense.”
Once the principal was taken away, the crowd dispersed, and we also left.
“Hey, don’t you think something’s off?” Zhang Yu said thoughtfully.
Fatty, looking confused, asked, “What’s off?” I also looked at Zhang Yu.
“Like you said, we just beat up Chen Tianxiang yesterday, and today the principal gets arrested. It doesn’t make sense!” Zhang Yu said, looking at the two of us.
“What do you mean?” I was starting to worry that Zhang Yu had figured something out.
“I suspect it wasn’t fate helping us, but someone secretly helping us out!” Zhang Yu said with unusual certainty.
Fatty, despite his big head, couldn’t figure it out. “Who would help us?”
“I guess the person is right around us, maybe one of the three of us!” Zhang Yu said, deliberately looking at me.
I’ve never underestimated Zhang Yu’s intelligence. I thought he was just distracted by the teacher and wouldn’t pay much attention to this matter, but he had guessed quite a bit.
“Why are you looking at me? I don’t have that kind of power!” I quickly spread my hands.
Fatty also looked at me and then laughed. “You’re joking. You know my family’s situation. It couldn’t be Xia Tian either; he lives here alone.”
“Xia Tian never let us meet his parents. Do you know his family’s background?” Zhang Yu glared at Fatty and then refocused on me. “Also, you never told me what you talked about with that gangster-looking guy, and from those two policemen’s attitudes back then, that guy must be someone important!”
“Damn! You’re overthinking. If I had any power, why would I stay in this lousy school?” Zhang Yu had guessed half of it, so I couldn’t let him guess further. If he figured everything out, he’d definitely be implicated if anything happened in the future.
“If my family had money, I wouldn’t be here. And that gangster just saw that I could fight and wanted to recruit me, but I refused. Do I have to explain such a small thing to you?” I said irritably. Besides, in my eyes, Qin Shousheng was no simple gangster. A gangster could handle matters in the underworld, but to have the Education Bureau director personally help me with a few words? No way.
“You’re right!” Zhang Yu nodded but suddenly looked up. “Damn! Even if I’m wrong, why are you so defensive? Fatty, beat him up!” He said, and he and Fatty charged at me.
I breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness.
“If you can catch me!” I smiled and taunted them, then ran towards the classroom.
“Damn! You run fast, damn it!” Zhang Yu panted, leaning against the classroom door.
Fatty looked even more pathetic, collapsing onto a desk, gasping for breath. “Water… water…”
To prevent Zhang Yu from guessing more, I pretended to be tired too, panting and saying, “You two think you can catch me? Dream on!” Then I laughed.
“What did you do to end up like this?” Sun Jing, who had just returned from lunch, asked, puzzled.
“Exercise after meals is good for your health!” I smiled, raising my arm to show off the muscles I had recently developed.
Sun Jing smiled helplessly and raised the bottle of mineral water in her hand. “I have some water here. You can have it.”
“Water? Where?” Fatty immediately perked up at the word ‘water’ and tried to grab the bottle from Sun Jing. But I blocked him. “You can’t drink from a girl’s bottle directly!”
“I’ll get a bottle!” Fatty said, running to the back to grab a drink bottle.
“It’s okay, I don’t mind,” Sun Jing said, smiling at me.
“Better to be careful,” I said, smiling back and handing the half-full bottle to Sun Jing while pouring the rest into Fatty’s bottle.
But Fatty didn’t get to drink; Zhang Yu snatched it first.
“I’ll drink first!” Zhang Yu said, downing it in one go. Fatty looked at him with distress. “Brother, leave some for me!”
But Zhang Yu ignored him, finishing the bottle and handing it back to Fatty. “Sorry, I drank it all!” He didn’t look sorry at all.
“I’m not thirsty anyway. You guys drink it,” Sun Jing said generously, handing the bottle back to me.
Scratching my head, I said, “Sorry about that!”
“No problem!” Sun Jing smiled sweetly and returned to her seat.
I poured the remaining water back into Fatty’s bottle. “Drink up.”
Fatty drank it like it was a treasure.
“Damn, this girl is great. Brothers, she’s mine!” Zhang Yu said, staring at Sun Jing.
“Not going after Xu Da Xiaohua anymore?” I asked, annoyed.
“You said I had no chance. Why bother?” Zhang Yu gave me a disdainful look.
Damn! What kind of person is this?
But Sun Jing is such a good girl, I didn’t want Zhang Yu to ruin her. “Pick another target. She’s a good girl; don’t ruin her.”
“Are you saying I’m not good enough?” Zhang Yu said, about to hit me again. I looked at him disdainfully. “Yeah, so what?”
“Fatty, beat him up!” Zhang Yu shouted, charging at me. This time Fatty didn’t follow, saying softly, “You didn’t let me drink water earlier, so I’m not helping you.”
“Fatty, beat him up!” I said, and Fatty smiled. “Okay!”
“Damn!” Zhang Yu cursed and fled.
