Chapter 60: Make a Wish (part 1)

“Are you back, miss?”

“…Yes.”

“Can I make something for you?”

“I don’t need anything.”

Dinua Erebos glanced at the person addressing her, their tone hinting at annoyance, and headed toward her room.

Her dormitory, like those of other nobles, consisted of high-end accommodations. Yet, Dinua didn’t like the space. Despite the grandeur, all she had was a small 4-square-meter room.

The cramped room, which felt entirely isolated from the world once the door was closed and the blackout curtains drawn, was her sanctuary.

‘That’s…’

As Dinua moved to shut the curtains as she did every evening, she noticed Noah and Ian arguing in the distance near the dormitory.

Her heart raced as adrenaline surged upon spotting Ian, but the exhilaration quickly dissipated when she saw Noah beside him.

‘That place…’

That should have been her place. She stared at Noah with resentful eyes. Perhaps her bitterness was felt, as Noah soon rushed toward the dormitory.

Startled, Dinua quickly drew the blackout curtains and peeked through a small gap, observing Ian.

Ian, however, wasn’t alone. He was walking down the street with a woman Dinua had never seen before—a stunningly beautiful woman whose elegance was apparent even from a distance.

“…Ian?”

The light seemed to fade from Dinua’s eyes. She continued watching until Ian disappeared from view.

Afterward, Dinua knelt on her bed, trembling.

“Who is she? Why was he smiling at her like that? He’s never smiled at me like that…”

Her anxiety mounted, and she began biting her thumb. Bl0od seeped from her fingertips as her nails cracked.

Dark, oppressive emotions filled her mind.

The seeds of evil had begun to sprout.

Evil (惡) turns into demon (魔).

[Girl.]

“…!?”

A shadowy figure appeared before Dinua, startling her. It was a dark presence, its face shrouded in obscurity.

“Demon?!”

Panicked, Dinua raised her hand and summoned her summon. A shadowy presence appeared at her call, standing guard. Yet, seeing no immediate threat, the summon tilted her head in confusion.

[Nya?]

“…What’s wrong? Is something there—?”

[No use. I’ve already settled within your heart.]

The shadow met Dinua’s gaze, its sinister grin widening as if it could read her thoughts.

[Yes, I see it. That yearning… it’s deliciously simple. Let me give you something to fulfill it.]

The shadow produced a parchment adorned with a skull and vanished, leaving the item behind.

The summon jumped back in alarm, startled by its sudden appearance.

[Nyah?!]

“This…”

As Dinua picked up the parchment, she instinctively understood its purpose.

It was a magical scroll capable of revealing someone’s true feelings without causing harm.

It was a “safe” magic scroll—or so she believed. Her unstable emotions fueled her conviction, turning it into near-religious faith.

“I won’t use it. I won’t…” Dinua muttered, yet she clutched the scroll tightly, holding it close.

[Ian’s POV]

“…Where am I?”

Pitch-black darkness enveloped everything, creating a void where it was impossible to discern up from down or front from back.

I stopped and summoned Anna, my Paladin of Salvation. As a half-angel, she could emit radiant light from her body.

Anna appeared, but instead of illuminating the surroundings, she tilted her head in confusion.

“…Where are we, Master?”

“I don’t know. Why isn’t the light working?”

“I’m sorry, Master. I’m trying to shine as brightly as I can…”

Anna raised her shield and activated an Origin Art. However, even the light from her shield couldn’t pierce the oppressive darkness.

‘This isn’t just darkness—it’s absorbing the light.’

It was like shining a light on a black T-shirt; the material absorbed the light instead of reflecting it. If this space inherently had a dark nature, it explained why even Anna’s power couldn’t penetrate it.

“What’s happening here?”

“…When I last saw you, Master, you were outside talking to Miss Dinua.”

“…Talking to Dinua?”

How could that be? I was here. There’s no way I could’ve been talking to Dinua while conscious in this place.

If that were true, there were only two possibilities:

First, I somehow traveled here mid-conversation, and time within this space accelerated infinitely, amounting to less than 0.1 seconds in the outside world.

Second, something else was controlling my body.
