Chapter 62: Back to the Hospital

When I woke up again, I was already in the hospital, still surrounded by the sharp smell of medicine that made me feel a bit uncomfortable.

By the way, is Sister Qian alright? I quickly glanced around and saw Sister Qian sitting next to me, but she had fallen asleep lying on my side.

It’s good if she’s okay. I breathed a sigh of relief; that bald guy was just too formidable.

“Sister Qian?” I tried to wake her up. Sleeping in that position must be uncomfortable.

Sister Qian groggily rubbed her eyes and suddenly said excitedly, “Xia Tian, you’re awake!” Then, for some reason, she started crying, “You—you scared me to death!”

“Well, I’m fine now,” I said with a smile.

Sister Qian looked at me seriously and tearfully said, “Don’t do such foolish things in the future. You know, if it were just one more centimeter, the bullet would have gone through your chest!”

I knew Sister Qian was referring to the incident where I shielded her from the gunfire, so I said seriously, “I won’t let anyone harm you, Sister Qian!”

Sister Qian was momentarily stunned, then stood up and said, “I’m going to call the doctor.”

“Has the little hero woken up? I’m a reporter from East City Daily. May I interview you?”

“I’m from the city radio station; let me in first!”

“What’s with the city? I’m from the capital!”

“From the capital? I was the first one here; let me in first!”

As soon as Sister Qian opened the door, a clamor of voices erupted outside. What’s with all these reporters?

“Patients need peace and quiet!” Sister Qian shouted angrily, and the reporters quieted down immediately. But soon, they started arguing again, prompting Sister Qian to slam the door shut with a loud “bang.”

“These people haven’t left even after staying the whole night!” Sister Qian said, somewhat annoyed, as she sat next to me and pressed the bell for the nurse. Since the area outside was blocked, we could only hope for the hospital staff to find a way in.

“By the way, Sister Qian, has that murderer been caught?” I asked her, puzzled.

“No,” Sister Qian shook her head.

Damn it! What were those fully armed special police doing? With so many people, they still didn’t catch that bald guy. I had hoped that Sister Qian would be safe, and that the bald guy would be caught.

Sister Qian looked at me and continued, “Because the suspect resisted too violently, he was executed on the spot.”

Damn! That’s harsh—executed on the spot!

To be honest, the reason I protected Sister Qian was not only because I didn’t want her to get hurt, but also because I thought my body, having undergone two refinements, should be resistant to bullets. After all, the protagonists in novels become impervious to weapons after a single refinement. But here I am, almost sent to meet Yama with just one bullet.

“Knock, knock!” At that moment, there was a knock on the door. Sister Qian stood up and walked to the door, asking, “Is it someone from the hospital?”

“We’re from the police station, we met yesterday,” a male voice came from outside. Sister Qian opened the door, and because of the presence of police officers, the reporters dared not get too close.

After the police officers came in, Sister Qian was about to follow them, but two more figures rushed in—a nurse and a doctor, and the nurse was someone I was very familiar with, Mei Xue.

“Officer, may we first have the doctor examine Xia Tian before taking the statement?” Sister Qian asked the police officers.

The lead officer smiled, “Of course, the health of the little hero comes first.”

“Do you feel anything unusual, such as pain or itchiness?” the doctor asked as he unwrapped the bandages.

I shook my head; I truly didn’t feel anything.

“This… this is unbelievable!” The doctor looked at me in astonishment after fully unwrapping the bandages.

Sister Qian, looking anxious, asked, “Has Xia Tian’s wound worsened?”

The doctor quickly shook his head, “Not only has it not worsened, but the wounds are also completely healed!” He then exclaimed, “This is nothing short of a miracle!”

“So you’re saying I’m fully recovered? I don’t need to stay in the hospital anymore?” I certainly didn’t want to stay in this dreadful place for another minute!

“Although it’s hard to believe, you are indeed completely recovered. There’s no need to stay in the hospital,” the doctor said with a few hearty laughs before preparing to leave.

“Mei Xue, why didn’t you even say hello?” Mei Xue hadn’t spoken to me since she came in. Had she forgotten about me?

Mei Xue blushed and lowered her head, “I thought you had already forgotten about me…”

“How could I forget!” I chuckled.

“Then take good care of yourself. I’ll leave now!” She said, then followed the doctor out of the room.

“I knew you and that nurse knew each other, or else she wouldn’t have been so eager to care for you,” Sister Qian said with a smile.

The lead officer smiled and said, “Let’s take the statement now, shall we?”

“Sure,” Sister Qian nodded and stood aside.

I was quite nervous during my first statement, expecting some tough questions, but they only asked about the incident, and that was it.

“Little hero, thank you for your time!” The officer smiled.

I awkwardly scratched my head, “Please just call me Xia Tian. ‘Little hero’ sounds awkward.”

“To have dared to fight Zhao Ziqiang and not fall behind, what else could you be but a little hero!” The officer laughed. Zhao Ziqiang must be the bald guy’s name.

The officer continued, “I heard you’re about to take your college entrance exam. Do well, and hopefully, you can get into the police academy. When you intern, you can come work with my team!”

Honestly, I used to admire the police profession, but my college life was destined to be spent at Shenghua.

After chatting with me for a bit more, the officer and his apprentice left.

Since there was no need to stay in the hospital, I changed into my clothes and prepared to leave.

However, as soon as I opened the door, the swarm of reporters gathered around again.

“Little hero is out!”

“May we interview you?”

“Can you tell us what gave you the courage to fight a murderer?”

“What are your thoughts on the incident now?”

“What color is your underwear?”

The noise was overwhelming, and the flashbulbs kept flashing continuously.

Damn! So reporters are this intimidating. I now feel sorry for those celebrities.

“Patients have just recovered and need peace and quiet. Everyone, step aside!” Sister Qian shouted. The reporters immediately quieted down, but the next moment, they all started shouting again.

I had no choice but to answer a few questions before they finally left.

Since it was still class time and I was fully recovered, Sister Qian took me to school.

As we neared the school, I saw a large crowd at the school gate, including teachers and students, with Wang Tong leading them. What’s going on? Are city leaders coming for an inspection?

Due to the crowd, the car couldn’t get through. Sister Qian and I had to get out. As soon as I got out, a deafening voice came from the crowd, “Welcome back to campus, Xia Tian!”
