“Xia Tian!” Auntie called my name as she stood up from her chair and immediately pulled me into her embrace.
I never expected to see Auntie here. Although I had kept in touch with her after running away from home, Auntie had always been afraid to meet me because of the old man.
The old man and Auntie are the people I’m closest to in this world. After being away from them for two years, I really miss them, but I can’t go back because the old man still hasn’t backed out of that matter.
Sister Qian quietly closed the door, leaving just me and Auntie alone in the office.
“You’ve grown taller, and more handsome too!” Auntie said happily as she stroked my face.
“Auntie, why are you here?” I asked, trying to suppress my excitement. Auntie must have come all this way to find me because something happened.
Auntie’s eyes were already moist as she looked at me and said, “I saw the news. Do you know how worried I was when I saw that you were severely injured and unconscious?”
In today’s world, information spreads quickly, so it’s no surprise that Auntie knew about it. What surprised me was how fast she came.
“But I’m fine now, so don’t worry.” I tried to reassure Auntie.
Auntie suddenly grabbed my hand. “Come with me, let’s go home. Don’t stay out here any longer.”
“Has Grandpa finally agreed to drop that matter?” Could it be that the old man finally came around?
Auntie gently nodded at me. “Your Grandpa is so stubborn; do you really think he’d drop it?”
“Then I won’t go back.” I shook my head. It’s been two years, and I never expected the old man would let his own grandson stay away for two years just to keep an old promise.
“You’re just as stubborn as your father and grandfather!” Auntie said helplessly.
“It’s too chaotic out here. Come home with me.” Auntie looked at me and urged again.
Just as I was about to speak, Auntie continued, “Do you really think your Grandpa doesn’t know you’re here? Every time I sent you money, it was on his instructions. Though he acts strict, he’s very worried about you.”
“I know all that, Auntie, but stop trying to persuade me. I’m not going back.” How could I not know the old man’s character? Besides, it’s impossible for my whereabouts to go unnoticed.
Seeing that Auntie still wanted to say more, I quickly added, “I want to prove myself with my own strength. There are only a few more days until the college entrance exams. I’ll go home during the summer break.”
Seeing how determined I was, Auntie sighed with a tearful smile and said, “I came here myself this time just to bring you back, but who would have thought I still couldn’t convince you.”
Just then, Auntie’s phone suddenly rang. After a brief conversation, she turned to me and said, “Since you don’t want to come back, I won’t force you. Just promise me you’ll take care of yourself and stop doing such dangerous things, okay?”
“I will.” I nodded. No matter what happens, you should never be at odds with yourself.
After chatting with Auntie for a bit longer, she had to leave. I opened the door, and Sister Qian was nowhere to be seen. After seeing Auntie off, I returned to class.
I reported back and returned to my seat. I wondered where Sister Qian had gone, only to find out she had gone back to class. I took out my textbook and started paying attention. As a perfect student with all sorts of honors, it’s not good to fall behind in studies.
But why was Zhang Yu standing with a book balanced on his head, facing the back of the classroom? Did Zhao Kai really tell on us for being late? Then why was the chubby guy fine?
I absentmindedly read my book for a few minutes until class ended.
Only when Sister Qian left did Zhang Yu dare to take the book off his head, muttering angrily as he returned to his seat. Zhao Kai, seemingly prepared, slipped away as soon as class ended.
“What’s going on?” I asked Zhang Yu as I returned to my seat.
“Just thinking about it pisses me off! Zhao Kai is such an idiot!” Zhang Yu fumed, clearly holding a grudge against Zhao Kai.
Seeing that Zhang Yu was in a bad mood, I turned to the chubby guy next to me and asked, “What happened?”
“Zhao Kai ratted on Zhang Yu like a dog!” The chubby guy shrugged helplessly.
“Then why are you fine?”
“I didn’t move anyone’s chair.”
Damn! So Zhao Kai was just being a jerk. With only a few days left, he’s still ratting people out.
“Zhang Yu, let it go. The chubby guy just called Zhao Kai a dog. Are you really going to bite back if a dog bites you first?” I patted Zhang Yu on the shoulder, trying to comfort him.
Zhang Yu gritted his teeth and said, “It’s so damn annoying. How did I end up sitting next to such a jerk?” As he spoke, he seemed to suddenly think of something. “You should talk to the tigress and switch back.”
“I’ll ask her when I get the chance.” Damn! I finally got a female deskmate, and she’s so nice. Only an idiot would want to switch back. Of course, I only said that to placate Zhang Yu.
But it might still be worth talking to Sister Qian about it.
After class, Zhao Kai came back, but he grabbed his books and sat at the front of the class. It seems he knew Zhang Yu might try to get back at him.
Attending class with Sun Jing made time fly by. For the first time ever, I didn’t find studying to be a painful chore.
But all good things must come to an end. Thanks to Wang Tong’s suggestion, we were granted a three-day break after the second period.
“Liu Chao, where’s your big bag for bedding?” As I was packing up, I suddenly heard Zhang Yu asking one of our dorm mates for a bag.
I immediately knew that Zhang Yu hadn’t let go of what happened with Zhao Kai. He probably planned to stuff Zhao Kai in a bag and give him a good beating.
“Liu Chao, don’t pay him any attention. Just go home!” I said to Liu Chao. He seemed to understand what Zhang Yu was thinking, and after hearing what I said, he took off running.
Zhang Yu tried to grab Liu Chao, but I stopped him.
“Damn it!” Zhang Yu cursed and pulled out a Zhonghua cigarette from his pocket. It turns out he still hadn’t finished the ones Chen Tianxiang “gave” him last time.
“I know you want to beat Zhao Kai up, but we’re all in the same class. Besides, since you two just had a fight, he’ll know it was you who did it,” I said to Zhang Yu.
Zhang Yu sighed impatiently, “Then what should I do?”
“Obviously, you get someone else to do it! Since when did you become so dumb?” I laughed.
Zhang Yu paused, then shook his head. “Who should we get?”
I smiled mysteriously and slowly said, “Wang Hu!”
