Chapter 70: Only One Bite Allowed

When it comes to weapons, I have a personal preference for longswords.

As the ancient saying goes, “The sword is the king of a hundred weapons!” This means it is the emperor of all weapons. Moreover, in the martial arts dramas I watched as a child, every hero wielded a sword. The more swords, the better.

This dagger, although it belongs to the category of short weapons, is incredibly short—almost too short.

As the saying goes, “The shorter the weapon, the greater the risk.”

However, looking at this pitch-black dagger, it appears extremely sharp and likely not an ordinary item. The phrase “so sharp it can sever hair” seems quite fitting here.

With a “clang!” sound, I drew the dagger and began to inspect it.

Before I could figure out anything, Mei’er exclaimed in my ear, “This weapon is entirely forged from millennium-old Darksteel! No, wait!” Mei’er examined it closely and continued, “There’s also a small amount of millennium-old Coldsteel, and it has all been refined and purified with True Qi, leaving no impurities!”

Millennium-old Darksteel? Millennium-old Coldsteel? Just hearing the word “millennium” suggests these materials are anything but ordinary.

I know about Darksteel, having read many of Jin Yong’s novels. There was one character with an unusually strong left arm who wielded a Darksteel heavy sword.

As for Coldsteel, I have no idea what it is, but judging by its name, it must be extremely cold iron…

When I lightly touched the blade, a chill seeped into my bones, causing me to shiver all over.

Of course, I was curious about what other treasures might be hidden behind that layer of restriction. However, I was more interested in knowing who the owner of this storage ring was. Who could possess such immense wealth?

Mei’er suddenly extended her hand, releasing a burst of white light that enveloped all the treasures on the table. She turned to me and said, “Xia Tian, these items are incredibly valuable and carry immense spiritual energy. You must take good care of them and never let anyone else see them, no matter who they are!”

Seeing Mei’er’s serious expression, I realized that obtaining this storage ring might not be a blessing.

As the saying goes, “A man without sin, but with a treasure, becomes guilty.”

My current strength is far from sufficient to protect these items. In this age where spiritual energy is scarce, only the legendary cultivation sects might possess such vast wealth. Moreover, there is a second layer of restriction on this storage ring. Who knows what awaits me once that layer is unlocked?

“I understand!” I said as I stored all the treasures back into the storage ring. Since the ring has its own small space, there’s no need to worry about spiritual energy leaking out.

Suddenly, I thought of something and turned to Mei’er, “Mei’er, spirit stones may not be useful to you, but these rare treasures should be of great help in breaking your seal, right?”

“That’s true, but Mei’er is not in a hurry to break the seal right now. You should focus on improving your strength first, Xia Tian!” Mei’er looked at me seriously as she spoke.

Mei’er’s words moved me deeply, but I still hoped she could break all her seals as soon as possible. That way, I could stay with Mei’er without worrying about those demon-hunting cultivators.

Honestly, those guys are so frustrating! Humans and demons are the same—they can be good or bad. Why do they insist on exterminating all demons?

Shaking my head, I took a millennium-old Blood Ginseng King from the storage ring and handed it to Mei’er. “Since these spiritual plants are useful to you, you should eat more.”

“This millennium-old Blood Ginseng King is extremely rare, appearing only once every few centuries. It can not only enhance cultivation and extend lifespan but also save a life in critical situations. You should keep it for yourself, Xia Tian. There’s no rush to break my seal,” Mei’er said, a bit flustered.

I smiled and took out two more millennium-old Blood Ginseng Kings from the storage ring. “There are plenty more in the storage ring. Just eat it.”

In fact, there were only three millennium-old Blood Ginseng Kings in the entire storage ring. I was doing this to get Mei’er to consume one. I owed Mei’er too much. Not to mention the first time I established my foundation, when Sister Lin helped me stop the bleeding with a sanitary pad, almost causing my death. During my seven-day journey in the underworld, Mei’er saved me with her own blood.

Although I, Xia Tian, can be petty, I am not ungrateful.

Mei’er was momentarily stunned when she saw me take out two more millennium-old Blood Ginseng Kings. She accepted one, cut it in half, and handed the other half back to me. “With my current strength, half a piece is enough.”

“Alright, I’ll save the remaining half for when you need it,” I said, storing the other half of the Blood Ginseng King back into the storage ring.

Mei’er’s eyes suddenly reddened as she looked at me and said, “Xia Tian…”

“Yes? What’s wrong?” I asked, puzzled by Mei’er’s reaction.

“Why are you so good to me?” As Mei’er said this, tears began to roll down her cheeks, making my heart ache.

“Of course, it’s because I like you!” I wanted to say this out loud, but for some reason, the words got stuck in my throat. Maybe it was the fear of rejection holding me back.

Gently wiping away Mei’er’s tears, I smiled and said, “Mei’er has been good to me, so naturally, I should be good to Mei’er.” Seeing her still teary-eyed, I comforted her, “Alright, alright, don’t cry anymore. Mei’er’s happiness is my happiness, and if Mei’er is sad, I will be sad too!” As I spoke, I tried to squeeze out some tears to show empathy, but embarrassingly, nothing came out.

“Then Mei’er won’t cry anymore!” Mei’er quickly wiped her tears away and smiled.

I smiled back, gently stroking her hair, and asked, “Is Mei’er hungry?”

Mei’er shook her head. “Mei’er is not hungry.”

“But what if Xia Tian is hungry?” I asked, grinning mischievously at Mei’er.

Mei’er froze for a moment, her face turning red. “Then Mei’er will let Xia Tian have a bite.”

It seemed Mei’er had completely understood what I meant by “hungry.” The sight of her blushing face made my heart flutter.

Mei’er closed her eyes, waiting for me to make my move. This was an opportunity I couldn’t miss. I leaned in to k!ss her, but just as I was about to, Mei’er suddenly opened her eyes and said, “Only one small bite, okay?”

I nodded, and only then did Mei’er close her eyes again.

Heh, do you think I’ll settle for just a small bite? Not only will I take a bite, but it will be a big one!

With that thought, I leaned in to k!ss Mei’er.

Just as I was about to satisfy my hungry heart, the doorbell suddenly rang!

Damn! Why does someone always have to interrupt at the critical moment?

No matter what, I was determined to k!ss her this time.

“Mmm…” Our lips met, and the soft, smooth sensation returned.

I traced Mei’er’s lips with my tongue, trying to part her teeth and deepen the k!ss, but she gently pushed me away.

Mei’er’s face was bright red as she whispered, “Alright, Xia Tian, you should be full now.”

Heaven knows I wasn’t full! My heart still felt empty!

Ding-dong! Ding-dong!”

The doorbell rang again, and with Mei’er unwilling to fill the void in my heart, I had no choice but to answer the door.

When I opened the door, there stood Sister Lin, looking impatient!

Damn! Lin Mengxin really is my nemesis!

HELP:

During the recent unrest in the country I am from, our family hardware store was broken into and looted by thugs. I don’t know why they did it, since my family has always been minding our own business, without bothering anyone else. I’m guessing some people are taking advantage of the current lawless and chaotic state of the country.

Anyways, the incident now leaves me as the only earning member of my family. Long time readers know that I was already dealing with a mountain of trouble (that I inherited from my father), and was already struggling. I had created a plan of action, and was steadily moving forward. But this incident destroyed whatever plans I had, again. I don’t know why bad things keep happening to me again and again. I might as well be cursed or something.

So here I am, after much hesitation, once again asking for your support. If you are reading this, please help if you are able to, I repeat, help only if you are able to. I am not asking something for free, you can become a Patron at Patreon to gain access to more chapters, or sponsor as many chapters you can from any of the novels you enjoy on Goblinslate here at BuymeaCoffee. Or if you just want to help, you can donate any amount at the Wishlist at BuymeaCoffee.

Thank you.
