Chapter 78: Kong Sheng Temple

“Just take the exam if you must, but why burn incense!” I said to Sister Lin helplessly. After all, she’s a modern woman, yet she believes in burning incense and praying to Buddha, such superstitious nonsense. If burning incense could guarantee university admission, why would I even bother studying?

“Are you going or not?” Sister Lin glared at me. Her temper wasn’t the best, and I silently wished she’d marry someone with a temper just as bad, so they’d argue every day.

“Of course, I’m going!” I said with a smile.

“What about Mei’er? Let’s ask her to come with us!” Sister Lin said as she prepared to enter the house. I quickly stopped her. This wasn’t the right time to let her in, as Mei’er was currently hanging around my neck. If Sister Lin didn’t find her in the room, there would be another argument.

“I’ll call her right now!” I said, smiling.

Sister Lin glanced at me, seemingly suspicious, but she didn’t say much. After taking another look at me, she remarked, “I still don’t understand why such a pure girl like Mei’er would be interested in you, and you two even live together.”

“Hey! That’s an insult to my character and a devaluation of my worth!” I protested. How could she say that about me, Xia Tian, someone so charming and handsome?

“Your character? Go get Mei’er!” Sister Lin snapped.

I clenched my teeth—be a man and don’t argue with her!

“Mei’er, time to wake up. Sister Lin wants to take us out!” I said as I returned to the bedroom, speaking to Mei’er, who had turned into a necklace. In a flash of white light, Mei’er was sitting on the bed, looking excited. “Really?”

“Yes, go downstairs quickly. Sister Lin is waiting for you!” I said, smiling. Every time I saw Mei’er’s innocent smile, I could forget the unpleasantness between Sister Lin and me.

Mei’er stood up and said with a smile, “I’ll go find Sister Mengxin first!”

“Go ahead!” I replied, shutting down my computer.

I changed my clothes and put some money in my pocket. Even though Sister Lin said she’d treat us, I had a feeling I’d still end up paying.

Locking the door, I turned to Sister Lin and Mei’er, who were chatting happily, and said, “Let’s go!”

“I’ll drive!” Sister Lin responded as she went to start the car.

I couldn’t help but feel puzzled. At first, Mei’er had been hostile toward Sister Lin because of the time Sister Lin had used sanitary pads to stop my bleeding. Now, however, they were practically best friends, like they’d known each other for years.

We got into Sister Lin’s car and headed toward the Kong Sheng Temple.

The Kong Sheng Temple is located at the top of Wangfeng Mountain and is the only place of historical value in the city. It’s famous not only for its history but because it has stood for many years.

Wangfeng Mountain is also a well-known tourist spot, and since it was the weekend, there were bound to be a lot of visitors.

After more than an hour, we finally arrived at the foot of Wangfeng Mountain. Sister Lin parked the car, then walked over to us.

It was scorching hot, and yet there were still plenty of tourists. Wouldn’t it be more comfortable to stay at home in air conditioning? I couldn’t understand why people would willingly suffer in this heat.

I’ve always had a dream: to watch the sunrise at the beach with friends, and to watch the sunset alone. But this wasn’t a coastal city, so I hadn’t had the chance to make that dream come true.

“Sis, are you sure you want to go up?” I asked Sister Lin.

Wangfeng Mountain wasn’t small, and although there were man-made stairs, it wasn’t easy to climb from the base to the top.

Sister Lin shot me a look. “We’re already here, where else would we go?”

“My point is, the sun is so fierce, if we climb up and get sunburned, it won’t be worth it,” I said, making up an excuse.

Sister Lin smiled mysteriously and pulled out two sun umbrellas from her bag. She handed one to Mei’er and kept the other for herself.

Seriously? Where’s the equality? Why isn’t there one for me?

“Sister Lin, why are there only two umbrellas? Where’s mine?” I asked in confusion.

Sister Lin laughed mischievously and said, “The car is too small, no room for a third one. Sorry!” Then she turned to Mei’er and said, “Mei’er, let’s go!”

Mei’er glanced at Sister Lin, then offered, “Xia Tian, you can have this umbrella!” She handed the umbrella over to me.

See that? This is the Mei’er I know!

Even though I knew the sunlight wouldn’t harm Mei’er, I was only complaining out of a sense of unfairness.

If it had been Sister Lin offering, I would’ve taken it without hesitation. But would she really be that kind?

I smiled at Mei’er. “No need, I’m a man. I can handle the sun.”

“Alright!” Mei’er nodded and held hands with Sister Lin as they started up the mountain.

I had a feeling that Sister Lin didn’t come to the Kong Sheng Temple for the so-called college entrance exam blessings. That might just be an excuse. She was probably trying to make up for the barbecue that didn’t go well the other night, especially since she was leaving soon.

Wangfeng Mountain’s scenery was nice, but I wasn’t in the mood to appreciate it. Looking down at the cars below, which looked like ants, gave me a sense of superiority.

When we finally reached the top, the scene at the Kong Sheng Temple was astonishing. It was packed with people—mostly students, some accompanied by their parents. It was lively, to say the least.

“Sister Lin, there are so many people here. Should we go somewhere else?” Honestly, I wasn’t interested in this place. I’d rather be home playing games with my buddy who always picks Gar*n in League of Leg*nds than burn incense here.

Sister Lin glared at me. “We climbed all the way up here, and you want to go back without doing anything? No way!”

“Yeah, Xia Tian, let’s at least take a look!” Mei’er chimed in. I just couldn’t understand what spell Sister Lin had cast on her.

“Why don’t you both go ahead? I need to use the restroom!” I quickly made an excuse and darted off.

Sometimes, it seems like the heavens enjoy messing with me. The moment I mentioned needing the bathroom, I actually felt the urge.

The Kong Sheng Temple was divided into two courtyards. The front one was for worshiping the great sage, and the back one housed the staff. Where people lived, there had to be a bathroom.

However, when I got to the back courtyard, I couldn’t find the restroom. Just then, a man and a woman walked toward me, calling each other “junior sister” and “senior brother.” They were probably staff members, so I rushed over to ask the man, “Excuse me, where’s the bathroom?”

The man was startled but then smiled and said, “Just go straight ahead and turn left.”

“Thanks!” I said, about to leave, but then the girl said, “Senior brother, doesn’t he look familiar? We’ve met before, haven’t we?”

Hearing that, I turned back. “Do we know each other?”

“My little sister must have mistaken you for someone else. Sorry about that!” the man said with a smile.

“Oh, I see. Well, nature calls, so I’ll be going!” Urgency took precedence, so I didn’t think much of it and headed straight for the bathroom.
