Chapter 196: The Amer!can Freshman Is an Assassin?

I don’t know exactly how fast a sniper bullet travels, but this one could’ve definitely taken Sister Lin’s life!

For the first time, I felt like I was moving painfully slow—like a freaking snail!

I’ve wanted Sister Lin to disappear so many times, just so she’d stop bothering Mei’er and me. But now that her life was truly in danger, I panicked.

Back in that city, Sister Lin looked out for me a lot. Sure, she always hounded me for rent, but that’s just part of being a landlord. If landlords didn’t collect rent, who would bother renting out places?

At this speed, there’s no way I could reverse my True Qi to boost movement in time—bullets are just way too fast.

All I could do was give it my all, pushing myself toward Sister Lin, and instantly activating my Violet-Gold Enchanting Eyes.

This time, though, the Violet-Gold Enchanting Eyes felt different. Everything around me went eerily silent—completely soundless. I floated in mid-air while Sister Lin stood there, looking confused. If her expression hadn’t slowly started changing, I might’ve thought time had actually stopped.

Even so, the situation still looked grim…

Dmn it! Fine, slow motion is cool and all—but why the hell did I get slower too? What kind of BS is this?

In movies, slow-mo looks badass. But this was not the time for theatrics!

I had no time to dwell on it though, because I saw the bullet—already just six or seven meters away from Sister Lin!

Even though I was a bit closer to her than the bullet was, I still wasn’t fast enough to beat it there.

As anxiety surged through me, I suddenly realized—my True Qi was still circulating normally! It wasn’t slowing down at all.

No time to think—I immediately reversed my True Qi and surged toward Sister Lin with a burst of speed!

The technique from Mysterious Escape Art that boosts speed by reversing True Qi has side effects, sure, but the boost is ridiculously fast. In the blink of an eye, I was already next to her.

But the bullet wasn’t far behind. Despite all my movements, it was now less than a foot from hitting Sister Lin’s neck.

Even with my speed boosted several times over, I still wasn’t faster than the bullet. I had only been three or four meters from her, while it started out six or seven meters away—yet we both reached her at almost the same time!

Gritting my teeth, I ignored everything else and pushed Sister Lin to the side at top speed, ducking myself down as well.

Jesus! God! Buddha! Jade Emperor! Whoever’s up there—please watch over your humble servant!

The moment I shoved Sister Lin, I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder—time suddenly snapped back to normal.

Bang! The bullet smashed into the leg of a nearby table, shattering it instantly.

Sister Lin and her friends were already frozen in shock. Ignoring the pain in my shoulder, I kicked Sister Lin again, shoving her deeper into the sniper’s blind spot.

Don’t say I’m not a gentleman. Besides, this was not the time for tender feelings. And let’s be real—after all the times she’s interrupted me and Mei’er doing our thing, I’ve put up with her long enough! If I don’t get even now, when else?

After kicking Sister Lin into the corner, I rolled myself to the wall for cover.

“Huff… huff…” I was breathing heavily, pain throbbing in my shoulder. I shut my eyes tight.

Ever since my body was refined, I rarely got hurt. I naively thought even guns couldn’t harm me. Who would’ve thought that just a graze would tear my skin open like this?

“Xia Tian, are you okay?” Qin Mengdie was relatively calm. Her words sounded caring, but her tone didn’t exactly match.

D*mn. Including last time, I’ve saved her life twice now! Coldhearted much?

I held back the pain, gave her an “OK” sign, and whispered, “Lie low and don’t move…”

As for why I didn’t warn Sister Lin—well, uh… I may have kicked her a bit too hard just now. She’s unconscious. Totally an accident. Honest.

My shoulder injury was just superficial, but it had been a long time since I last felt real pain, so adapting was kind of rough.

I pulled out a healing powder from my Storage Ring and sprinkled it over the wound. In no time, the injury scabbed over and the pain eased up.

But that wasn’t all—after a short wait, the scab flaked off on its own, and there wasn’t even a mark left on my shoulder. It was like the bullet had never grazed me at all.

I don’t know much about guns, and I couldn’t guess how many bullets the shooter had left. Sister Lin and Qin Mengdie were both safely out of the sniper’s line of fire, so I didn’t need to worry about them for now.

What did worry me was the possibility of Tang Shuyao and the others coming downstairs like Sister Lin. If anyone else came down, I wasn’t sure I’d be fast enough to save them from death again.

But of course, fate loves to mess with you—no sooner had I thought about it, footsteps echoed down the stairs. And not just one set—three!

Crap! Three of them—Xu Xin, Tang Shuyao, and Mei’er—were all walking down!

“Get back upstairs!” I poked my head out and yelled at them.

Tang Shuyao, the most curious of the three, looked confused and asked, “Why should we—”

Before she could finish, the light fixture above me shattered with a sharp crack! I quickly pulled my head back in, heart pounding.

If that lamp hadn’t blocked the sniper’s view, I’d be on my way to play cards with the King of Hell right now.

“Ahhh!” Tang Shuyao screamed.

I yelled out, still leaning against the wall, “Mei’er! Get those two back upstairs!”

“Xia Tian, will you be okay on your own down here? Want Mei’er to help you?” Mei’er asked.

With Mei’er’s strength, a sniper bullet probably wouldn’t hurt her. But Xu Xin and Tang Shuyao were a different story.

I quickly replied, “Just take them upstairs. Leave the rest to me!”

“Be careful!” Mei’er answered, then led the other two girls back upstairs.

I took a deep breath and said to Qin Mengdie, “Qin Mengdie, close your eyes.”

She clearly didn’t know why I asked, but she did it anyway.

Once I was sure her eyes were shut, I reversed my True Qi and activated my invisibility technique.

Peeking out carefully and seeing no more shots being fired, I finally relaxed. I jumped out through the shattered glass window.

Across from the apartment was a tall wall—a perfect sniping location. I looked up—and sure enough, someone was there, aiming a sniper rifle straight at the building.

What surprised me even more… was that the shooter was a foreigner. Blond hair, blue eyes, a clean buzz cut.

Wait a second—I know this guy!

He was one of the representatives from the Amer!can freshman delegation!
