Chapter 40: Table Turned

“What?” I looked at Sun Dan with interest.

Since things had developed to this point, I certainly wasn’t afraid of Sun Dan in the slightest. Anyway, I was a manager now, even if it was just a deputy position. But Director Wang said we could be equals; he only cared about performance.

“Lin Nan, you’re really despicable! Why do you think I’m not married even in my thirties? Why do you think I’m so close to Director Wang? And do you know why I’m stealing your sales commission?” Sun Dan looked at me like that, but then she suddenly became agitated, even hysterical.

I frowned. I clearly saw Sun Dan’s aggrieved tears, saw her trembling body, and saw her looking extremely heartbroken.

“Why?” I asked in a deep voice.

“Because my family is counting on me to earn money to support them. My mother is bedridden in the hospital year-round, and I have to support my younger brother through university. Do you think I want this? Do you think I enjoy being with Director Wang? I’m not Secretary Zhao; I’m not as lowly as her!” Sun Dan continued, tears welling up in her eyes.

“This—” I was speechless. I looked at Sun Dan, at a loss for words.

“Yes, I was parachuted into the sales department, but it was out of necessity. Director Wang promised me a manager position, so I came. But do you think I’ve had an easy time here? I still have to fawn over Director Wang!” Sun Dan continued.

“Then why would you steal my sales credits, and you target me at every turn?!” I said hastily.

“That’s right, I don’t want to either, but everyone in the sales department says you’re the only one qualified for the manager position. If I don’t suppress you, who else can I suppress? How can I maintain order? Do you think this position is easy to hold?” Sun Dan said angrily.

“So you say this is all my fault?” I pointed at Sun Dan.

Although we had just been intimate, I realized I needed to re-evaluate this woman.

“Are you satisfied now? Not only do you have leverage over me, but you’ve also become a manager. Director Wang even said he’ll make me compete with you in performance; the director’s position won’t be easily given to me.” Sun Dan raged, her che$t heaving.

“Fine, even if it’s for your parents and brother, you can have that excuse for yourself, but don’t provoke me again!” I took a deep breath and said.

“Lin Nan, you’re so despicable! You actually used such methods against me! You’re a married man, how could you be so shameless!” Sun Dan stared intently at me, speaking each word with utmost depravity.

“Likewise.” I sneered.

“I’m telling you, Lin Nan, if you push me any further, it’s a fight to the death. I’ll tell your wife about this, and let’s see if you can get past her!” Sun Dan suddenly added before leaving.

“You dare!” My heart skipped a beat, and I quickly grabbed Sun Dan.

“I might just quit working at Daifen, but you have a family. You might even divorce your wife,” Sun Dan sneered, then slapped my hand away.

“Come back! Do you believe I’ll release your video right now?!” I roared.

“Try it. If you release it, I’ll say you secretly filmed me and Boss Wang. Let’s see how Boss Wang deals with you then!” Sun Dan continued, then opened the door and disappeared from my sight.

“You b!tch!” I slammed my fist on the door in anger, feeling a bitter taste in my mouth.

I never expected something like this to happen tonight. I turned around and looked at the torn black stockings, slapping myself several times. Frankly, I wasn’t mature enough to do something like this.

Back home, I took a hot shower, thinking about what Sun Dan had said. I was still worried. If Sun Dan told Boss Wang, I’d be out of a job. Just thinking about it, I realized Sun Dan wouldn’t dare do that; after all, she needed this job, and she had to support her family.

The next morning, I arrived at the company as scheduled. Since Liu Yan’s endorsement deal had been finalized, I returned to the sales department. Hearing my colleagues address me as “Manager Lin,” I didn’t seem particularly smug. I forced a smile and sat down at my desk.

“Manager Lin.”

A pleasant voice rang out, and I looked up, then saw Sun Dan.

Today, Sun Dan wasn’t cold or sarcastic towards me; she even showed a rare smile.

“What is it, Manager Sun?” I asked quickly.

“The manager’s office that Director Wang arranged for you is right next to mine. Pack your things and move in,” Sun Dan continued.

“Okay, thank you.” I nodded slightly and looked up.

Sure enough, a new office had been vacated early in the morning, and the words ‘Deputy Manager’s Office’ were written on the glass door.

After packing my things, I finally moved into my new office. Since it was separated from Sun Dan’s by only a glass wall, I could see her working.

Not long after, Sun Dan called me from the landline.

“Hello, Manager Lin.”

“What is it?” I asked quickly.

“The past is the past. I don’t want things to be difficult for you or me. As Director Wang said, we work based on performance; our goal is to generate sales.” Sun Dan said slowly.

“No problem.” I breathed a sigh of relief, surprised that Sun Dan would bring this up.

“Well, that’s all, let’s leave it at that.” Sun Dan continued.

I couldn’t help but feel that I might have gone too far this time. Before Sun Dan could hang up, I said, “Manager Sun, what I did before was indeed inappropriate.”

“It’s all in the past. I was wrong before too.” Sun Dan replied again, then hung up.

This morning, I felt like Sun Dan was a different person. She was surprisingly approachable and gentle.

With this question in mind, I rested my chin on my hand, pondering it. However, just as lunchtime approached, my phone rang.

Looking at the caller ID, I was immediately surprised. It was Qu Na calling. Qu Na was a major client in Hangzhou; I certainly remembered her well.

“Hello, Sister Qu,” I said quickly.

“Xiao Lin, are you free later? I happen to be in Shanghai today,” Qu Na asked hastily.

“Yes, Sister Qu, what’s up?” I thought for a moment and then replied.

“Then let’s meet at a Hong Kong-style tea restaurant in Metro City during lunchtime,” Qu Na said with a smile.

“Okay,” I agreed and hung up.

I wondered what Qu Na wanted to talk to me about. Did she want to sign another contract? Or was there something else?

With this question in mind, I immediately went to Metro City during my lunch break. At a Hong Kong-style tea restaurant, I finally met Qu Na.

Qu Na was wearing a sexy purple dress, and because of its fitted style, her voluptuous figure caught my eye.

“Xiao Lin, sit here,” Qu Na gestured for me to sit down, then quickly called the waiter to order.

“Sister Qu, what’s up?” I grinned and looked at Qu Na.

“Can’t I talk to you if there’s nothing wrong?” Qu Na smiled, then pursed her lips, her $exy expression instantly making my face flush.
