“Let’s go!” I said grumpily as I walked out of the dorm room with Fatty, wearing just my boxer shorts. It was nighttime, and I wasn’t worried about any girls peeking.
“You go first, I’m scared.” If this guy didn’t have that extra appendage, I’d seriously doubt if he was a girl!
Ignoring Fatty, I headed towards the bathroom.
Although there were lights in the corridor, it still seemed a bit dim. Fatty clung to my arm, looking around nervously.
“We’re here. Go pee!” I pushed Fatty’s arm away and pointed to the bathroom, speaking irritably.
Fatty shook his head. “Come with me!”
“I don’t need to pee! Stop being such a chicken!” I shoved Fatty into the bathroom. He gave me a resentful look before walking in hesitantly.
I leaned against the door, waiting for Fatty to finish.
“Xia Tian, are you still there?” Fatty called out just a few seconds after going in.
“Yeah, I’m here,” I replied casually.
A moment later, Fatty spoke again, “Are you still there?”
“Damn it! Yes, I’m still here!” I was getting impatient. Did he really need to keep talking to me to feel safe? How old was he, anyway?
Fatty came out, pulling up his pants as he ran. “Damn, it’s so dark in there. Scared the hell out of me.”
“Aren’t there voice-activated lights?” I asked as we walked back.
“The lights are broken. Otherwise, I would’ve gone by myself,” Fatty replied, quickly catching up to me.
“Oh…” I muttered, not saying much else. If he dared to go to the bathroom alone, I’d eat my hat!
Just as we were about to reach the dorm, Fatty suddenly grabbed me, his voice trembling. “Xia… Xia Tian, what’s that ahead?”
“Is there something ahead?” I looked up and was startled. A shadowy figure was wobbling towards us, silhouetted against the light, making it hard to see clearly.
“You… guys…” The shadowy figure spoke in a hoarse voice.
“A ghost!” Fatty screamed and fainted. I also sensed something was wrong and secretly channeled my True Qi. If demons existed, then a ghost appearing wasn’t impossible either.
I was about to make a move when the figure coughed and spat. “Damn! Do I look that scary?”
The tension eased immediately. Although the voice was still hoarse, I recognized it as Zhang Yu’s.
“Damn it! Why are you out here too?” I asked in confusion.
Zhang Yu raised his water cup. “Smoked too much, got a sore throat, and was really thirsty, so I came to get some water from the bathroom.” He glanced at the unconscious Fatty. “I was just about to say hi, but this guy fainted. What a wuss!”
“Forget the water for now. Help me carry Fatty back first!” I laughed helplessly, who would’ve expected this?
With Zhang Yu’s help, we carried Fatty back to the dorm. Zhang Yu hurriedly said, “I can’t wait anymore. My throat is too dry. Need to drink some water.”
“Hold on, I suddenly need to take a dump!” I grabbed some toilet paper and told Zhang Yu. For some reason, as soon as I got back to the dorm, I had a strong urge to use the bathroom, so I went with him.
The voice-activated lights in the bathroom were indeed broken, which explained why Fatty kept talking inside. After Zhang Yu got his water and left, I was alone in the bathroom.
The darkness was a bit unsettling. Shaking my head, I turned on my phone and started reading a novel.
“Drip!” The sound of water dripping on the floor echoed in my ears. I had a nagging feeling that the water might drip on me. That would be gross, considering the source.
The boys’ dorm had only one building with six floors, each side having a bathroom. So, the water drips were likely from the guys upstairs. If it dripped on me, I’d be really unlucky.
But in the darkness, I couldn’t see where the water was dripping. I could only remain cautious.
“Hey buddy, got any toilet paper?” I was engrossed in my novel when a hoarse voice startled me. No one had come in earlier. Could it be too dark to notice? But there should’ve been some sound, right?
No, when did I become as timid as Fatty? I looked at my toilet paper. There wasn’t much left, so I tore off a bit and handed it over. “I don’t have much. Use this sparingly.”
“Thanks!” A pale hand reached over and took the paper. Due to the partition, I couldn’t see the person’s face.
The hand was so pale it was a bit scary, almost bloodless. But thinking about it, a ghost wouldn’t need to use the toilet, nor would it care about hygiene, so I didn’t dwell on it.
“Buddy, can I use your phone?” The person next door spoke again. This time I got annoyed. “Damn it! What will I do if I give you my phone?”
“I’ve been squatting here for over ten years. It’s really boring…” The person’s tone suddenly turned eerie.
Now I was pissed. Was he trying to scare me because I refused to lend him my phone? “Who are you trying to scare? Want me to come over and kick your ass?”
“You’re the first one to give me paper. Usually, everyone hears my voice and runs away without even pulling up their pants…” The voice continued in an eerie tone, but this time it had a chilling effect.
I decided to ignore this fool, wiped my butt, and stood up. Who knew he would continue, “I didn’t want to kill you, but now you leave me no choice!”
Damn! This guy was really into role-playing, huh? Threatening to kill me now? I kicked open the door and stepped outside. “Come out if you dare!”
This guy was seriously asking for it. I gave him toilet paper, and he repaid me by trying to scare me. I should’ve just thrown a pile of crap at him and see who could gross out whom.
“I can’t come out. You need to open the door…” The person spoke faintly.
Hearing this, I laughed. “Do you think I’m an idiot?” Maybe if I opened the door, he’d kick me. Besides, how weak could he be that he couldn’t open a door?
“You’re afraid to open it, aren’t you? Afraid I’ll come out and kill you?” He continued provoking me. I suppressed my anger and walked away. I didn’t have time to waste on this loser.
“You’re still scared, coward…” His voice was full of disdain. I couldn’t understand it. Chen Tianxiang had a foul mouth because he was drunk, plus his dad was the principal. But this guy was just a fool!
If I didn’t teach him a lesson, I’d be letting everyone down.
“You really deserve a beating. If I don’t beat you up today, I swear I’ll change my name!” Muttering curses, I walked to his bathroom stall and reached for the door handle. Just as I was about to open it, Mei’er’s voice suddenly came through urgently.
“Xia Tian, don’t open it!” Mei’er’s tone was extremely urgent.
Could it be that the person inside wasn’t human after all? The thought made me shiver.
But Mei’er’s warning came too late. I had already opened the door halfway.
