Chapter 57: Sorry (part 1)

“One.”

“Ahhhh!?”

“Two.”

“Ugh!”

The three “bullies” were quickly subdued. Considering that even knights who had trained their entire lives couldn’t overcome a 1-star summon, there was no chance they could defeat Theresia, a 3-star summon.

“That was it? It’s boring.”

“Aww!”

Theresia appeared nothing more than a simple human, even a slender beauty. Naturally, their pride was hurt as if slashed with a knife.

To a man or a young man, pride was often more precious than life. Unhurriedly, they drew their swords from their sheaths.

“You wretch! How dare you!?”

The man pulled out a dagger, its blade over 30 cm, and charged straight at Theresia.

At such a close range, even a knight wielding a sword would find it dangerous. However, standing before him was a summoned being, not an ordinary person.

Theresia wasn’t just a knight—she was hailed as a hero.

Tak-puck!

“Ah, uh…!”

It was akin to using a knife to slay a dinosaur when all they had was the strength of an insect. Theresia swiftly disarmed the man and subdued him with cold efficiency.

“Were you really trying to stab me?”

Crack!

A sickening sound came from the man’s forearm—a sound that made you grit your teeth.

Theresia showed no mercy. She was decisive and firm in her actions.

“It won’t kill you. However… … for the rest of your life, you’ll need someone to feed you.”

Thud!

“Aaaaah!”

The man collapsed with his arms outstretched, and Theresia cast a contemptuous look at the other two men.

“D-don’t!”

“Hey—!”

“Y-Yeah!”

The two cowards grabbed their fallen comrade and quickly fled the scene.

Watching their shadows disappear into the distance, Ian muttered, almost pitying them.

“No, do you really need to be that harsh?”

“What, Master? If I’d been just a regular human here, I could’ve died.”

Theresia had a point, but there was nothing in the situation that could’ve truly endangered her.

After all, even if every knight and soldier in the city attacked her, she would still laugh as she subdued them.

“… … Ian, we have a problem.”

“What?”

“We don’t have a carriage.”

After arriving at the carriage stop, Syrah spoke with the ticket office staff. Then she approached Ian with a troubled expression and relayed the bad news.

Ian listened and asked about the next available carriage ticket. Scratching her cheek, she replied hesitantly.

“That…it’s tomorrow morning.”

“Tomorrow morning…that’s not too bad.”

Fortunately, there weren’t any delays extending the wait for a week. Otherwise, Ian would’ve had no choice but to rely on his summon to carry them.

“Then, are we sleeping here?”

“Uh…do we have to sleep here?”

Since this city was built to accommodate cadets entering the academy and their parents, lodging wasn’t an issue.

But…

‘That means…spending the night alone with Syrah.’

By tomorrow morning, they would return to the academy. But for tonight, it would be just him and Syrah staying out together.

If word got out that an academy cadet spent the night alone with a female student, Ian feared it could tarnish his reputation.

As this world followed a nobility system, suspension wasn’t likely, but…

‘I’m still worried.’

While they were on the estate, Ian tried to maintain some distance from her. Slowly, he stepped away.

When Syrah noticed, she puffed her lips in frustration.

“Why are you moving away?”

“No… it’s just—.”

“You’re here!”

A loud voice, as if it could shatter a train engine, suddenly erupted.

Ian carefully covered his ears and turned toward the source. There stood a knight in armor, accompanied by the two fools Theresia had beaten earlier.

‘A knight?’

They had seen groups of knights moving before, but Ian couldn’t understand why these particular ones were here now.

One of the knights stepped forward, pointing a blade at them.

“You are accused of assaulting innocent villagers and extorting money. Do you admit it?”

“…What?”

“It’s no use denying it! On top of that, you even impersonated summoners!”

The knight’s voice carried a tone of incredulity, as if he couldn’t believe such accusations were being made.

The eyes of the bystanders turned toward them. Ian realized this situation was becoming troublesome.

“Wait, there’s a misunderstanding.”

“Misunderstanding? There’s nothing to misunderstand! You will answer for your crime of extortion here and now!”

The knight, ignoring their words, exaggerated his movements and spoke violently, clearly unwilling to listen.
